Atmosphere & Menu Highlights

The 'mini' branch, in particular, boasts an incredibly charming and retro interior that instantly makes you feel at home.
The warm and inviting atmosphere sets the perfect mood for a delightful meal.

On my recent visit, I indulged in the Beef Tartare, Duck Leg, and, of course, the quintessential Goulash.
1. Goulash
This is an absolute must-eat when you're in Hungary! The goulash here boasts a rich, deep broth with a delightful, slightly spicy kick that is simply outstanding. Even the 'mini' size was generously portioned with plenty of tender meat and vegetables, which I really appreciated.
2. Beef Tartare
My husband is currently obsessed with this dish! Think of it as a finely minced steak tartare. While it's very smooth with less chewing texture than some might expect, the flavor is absolutely delicious.
To enjoy it, simply spread the seasoned beef onto the perfectly toasted bread. Take a fork, spear a clove of garlic, and rub it vigorously over the crispy bread to infuse it with a wonderful garlic aroma. Then, add a dollop of the provided butter, top with the tartare, and take a bite – pure bliss! It’s an unbeatable pairing with a cold beer!
3. Duck Leg
The duck leg was a new experience for me, but it sounded intriguing compared to other main dishes, so I decided to try it. The meat was wonderfully tender and not at all dry, making it a pleasant and easy dish to eat.
While it wasn't an 'OMG, you have to try this!' moment, it was still enjoyable. You might consider ordering another dish, or perhaps a larger portion of the goulash if you're looking for something truly exceptional.

I also enjoyed a glass of Pálinka, along with a refreshing lemonade and a beer.
The total cost for our meal came to 30,418 Ft, which is approximately ~$83.
It's not exactly cheap, but it's good to remember that Eastern European prices aren't always as low as some might expect. It's helpful to keep this in mind when planning your budget!
Overall Verdict & Summary

Would I revisit? : Probably not, as I like to try new places on every trip.
However, for first-time visitors to Budapest, I absolutely recommend it! Finding a truly great goulash spot can be surprisingly difficult, and Retek Bisztro delivers on both amazing taste and a wonderful ambiance.
If you're in Budapest and want a fail-safe option for delicious goulash, make sure to visit Retek Bisztro! 👍

The article recommends Retek Mini over the main branch, noting its charming, retro-style interior as particularly impressive. For the menu, it suggests the goulash for its rich and deep broth flavor, and also proposes ordering a larger size of goulash instead of the duck leg.
