When it comes to traveling from Dahab to Hurghada, you have three main choices:
the bus, the ferry, or a flight.
To save our energy and maximize our travel time,
we opted for the fastest option
and booked a domestic flight to make the jump across the Red Sea.
01. Dahab to Hurghada: The Flying Option
If you look at Google Maps,
Dahab and Hurghada look relatively close, but they are separated by water.
Taking the bus means a long, exhausting detour all the way around,
whereas the flight cuts straight across the gulf.
It is hands down the fastest and most convenient way to travel between the two resort towns.

which meant we would be boarding a small turboprop plane for this short hop.

02. Essential Tips Before You Fly out of Dahab

Since Dahab is a world-class diving destination, you're likely spending time underwater.
To prevent decompression sickness (the bends),
make sure to leave a 18 to 24-hour window
between your last dive and your flight departure.
Also, keep in mind that you'll be flying out of Sharm El Sheikh International Airport (SSH),
which is about a 60-mile drive from Dahab.
Give yourself plenty of buffer time for the road transfer!
(Our pre-booked airport transfer arrived a bit later than scheduled,
so we were glad we had built in some extra time! 😅)
03. Checking In at Sharm El Sheikh Airport (SSH)
Sharm El Sheikh Airport is relatively small and easy to navigate.
Arriving 2 hours before departure gave us more than enough time to breeze through security.
The check-in process was incredibly fast,
likely because this was a quick domestic flight
with fewer passengers than the major international routes.
The departure lounge had plenty of seating and felt very spacious,
making it a comfortable spot to relax and get some work done while waiting.
There is a cozy little cafe inside the terminal where we grabbed a coffee.
Unfortunately, they didn't offer any iced coffee options on the menu! 🥹
04. Air Cairo SM14 Turboprop Flight Experience
Our flight to Hurghada was Air Cairo Flight SM14.
As expected, it was a smaller turboprop aircraft.
The cabin features a 2-2 seating configuration,
and the ceiling is low enough that taller travelers might have to duck slightly.
I was worried the legroom would be tight, but at 5 feet 7 inches,
I found the seat pitch surprisingly comfortable
and had plenty of knee room for the short flight.
Given the short distance, I wasn't expecting any service,
but the crew actually handed out complimentary juice boxes!
A nice little touch for a budget flight.
Staring out the window at the stunning deep blue of the Red Sea,
the 50-minute flight flew by in an instant.
Before we knew it, we were descending into Hurghada.
Upon landing at Hurghada Airport,
we called an Uber to take us straight to our hostel in the city center.

If you want the fastest, most comfortable journey
from Dahab to Hurghada, flying is definitely the way to go.
