Our 4-Night, 6-Day Da Nang & Hoi An Family Adventure: Day 1 with Our 3-Year-Old
Hello, fellow travelers!
The day we've been waiting for is finally here – our departure for Da Nang, Vietnam!
With a 9:00 PM flight, the day felt surprisingly relaxed. I even wondered, "Are we really going on vacation today?" Ha!
For T'way self-check-in, you can check in up to 24 hours before departure. So, the day before, I set an alarm for 09:10 PM and used the T'way app to secure our seats. I didn't want our family to be separated on the flight!
Our Day 1 plan was simple: arrive safely at Da Nang Airport, take a Grab to check into Wink Hotel, and then head to Pho Bac Hai nearby for some delicious pho.
Daegu Airport's parking lot is quite small, and the parking fees for a 4-night, 6-day trip would have been expensive. So, we opted to leave our car at home and took a taxi to the airport instead.
Since we had already self-checked in, we just dropped off our luggage. We found a Japanese restaurant nearby and had dinner there. Our little one, Kongtteok, loves tonkatsu (pork cutlet), so it was a perfect and tasty meal for us all.
Our 9:10 PM flight to Da Nang was still a while away. As you can see, it was only 7:20 PM! There wasn't much to do at the airport, so we eventually gave in and let Kongtteok watch YouTube.
Finally, it was time to board the plane! Kongtteok settled into their seat and started watching pre-downloaded YouTube videos. After a bit, they eventually drifted off to sleep.
There's an option to purchase a fast track service at Da Nang Airport, but we heard it could be a "hit or miss," so we decided not to bother. We cleared immigration within about 30 minutes, which was pretty fast! Most people head straight for Grab, so you can just follow the crowd.
From the Grab stand, we hailed a ride and headed straight to Wink Hotel. The drive was only about 15 minutes.
One of Wink Hotel's biggest perks is their 24-hour check-out policy after check-in. Since we checked in around 1:00 AM, we could have stayed until 1:00 AM the following day! (Though we ended up moving to another accommodation earlier, so we didn't fully utilize it.)
This was the room we were assigned. It features a combined bathroom and shower, one king-sized bed, and a sofa.
Up a small set of stairs, there's another smaller bed. We initially thought of having Kongtteok sleep there with my mother-in-law, but decided against it due to the risk of falling. So, our little one ended up sleeping comfortably between my husband and me!
Here's the night view from Wink Hotel. With the Han River right in front, the scenery was quite lovely.
After checking in and unpacking, it was almost 2:00 AM. We really should have gone straight to bed, but Kongtteok had woken up after arriving at the hotel, and we were all feeling pretty hungry! So, we decided to head to the nearby local favorite, Pho Bac Hai!
Its location is incredibly close to Wink Hotel, less than a 5-minute walk. There's another pho restaurant right in front of it, but Pho Bac Hai was bustling with people, a sure sign of a good spot!
We were so hungry and exhausted that I completely forgot to snap a picture of the menu! But trust me, the prices were incredibly affordable.

While night flights and early morning arrivals can be tiring, there's an undeniable thrill in finally setting foot in Vietnam! Wink Hotel, despite not having a pool, boasts a fantastic location. There are so many hotspots near Wink Hotel that even if you move accommodations, you'll likely find yourself coming back to this area.
As for Pho Bac Hai, we just stumbled in because we were starving, but it turns out it's a famous local eatery! Honestly, I still think about the food we had there; it might have been the best meal of our entire trip!
