Be Bien Location

Be Bien is perfectly situated directly across the road from the central stretch of My Khe Beach. This area is known for its long, beautiful coastline and attracts the largest crowds, often hosting various festivals and events throughout the year.

On the day I visited, a lively food festival was in full swing, complete with live music performances. The sheer number of people made it difficult to navigate the street. I initially planned to eat at one of the festival stalls, but the long queues at every booth led me to cross the road to Be Bien instead.
Inside Be Bien

As a rule, I often avoid restaurants right on the beach, as they sometimes cater mainly to tour groups, which can lead to concerns about hygiene or inflated prices. Solo travelers like myself don't usually frequent such spots. However, Be Bien stood out with relatively decent online ratings, prompting me to give it a try.

The interior is surprisingly spacious, so even as a solo diner, I didn't feel out of place.

A highlight here is the array of live fish and seafood kept in tanks. Orders are taken, and then your selection is freshly caught and prepared, ensuring maximum freshness.
The Menu

Flipping through the menu, I was pleased to see it included Korean translations, making ordering a breeze. Morning Glory is always a must-order for me in Vietnam!

The menu features classic seafood dishes like oysters, salads, and clams. Prices for some items seemed quite reasonable, ranging from 89,000 VND to 149,000 VND per dish, which won't break the bank.

However, as I turned the page, many items were listed as "market price" (싯가), without a specific cost. Rather than asking about each one, I decided to stick to the dishes with clear prices.

Beer was also affordable, at about 20,000 VND a bottle, so you can easily order a few without worry.

Since I don't drink alcohol, I opted for a Coke. The Morning Glory arrived first – it's truly a versatile and delicious side dish that pairs well with any rice or noodle meal.

I also ordered an oyster dish, which was decent. Whether they were naturally small or simply steamed that way, I've never been particularly impressed with the size of oysters or clams in Da Nang. They often look substantial on the shell but are quite meager inside.

Unlike in some other countries where oysters are often served plain, Vietnamese preparations typically involve toppings like cheese, scallions, or various sauces. Perhaps it's to enhance the flavor or to make up for the smaller size of the shellfish.

With the addition of fried rice, my meal was quite a spread.

I had high hopes for the fish fried rice, but upon closer inspection, the fish pieces were more like dried, crispy crumbs, almost like snack bits. It was also incredibly salty. While the overall seasoning of the rice was fine, it wasn't the fresh, flaky fish fried rice I had imagined. (My advice: order something else!)

In the end, the Morning Glory remained the most reliable and satisfying dish on my table.

To be frank, the hygiene level at a bustling seafood spot like this, right by the beach, was a bit below my expectations. There was some litter scattered around, and I had doubts about the thoroughness of the dishwashing. However, if you're traveling with a family or a group and are looking for a lively place to enjoy seafood by the ocean, it's not a bad option for a one-time visit.

The shrimp, crabs, and other crustaceans in the tanks were visibly fresh and alive, suggesting that these options would likely be quite delicious.
So, there you have it – my review of Be Bien Seafood, a restaurant near My Khe Beach. If you're planning a trip to Da Nang with family or a group, consider stopping by for a taste of the local seafood scene!
