Our first day exploring Chuncheon was a light journey,
yet it turned out to be a route packed with surprisingly many sights!
Since we had the kids with us, we planned our itinerary with about one main stop per day:
Skywalk → Dakgalbi → Cafe
Our first destination was the Soyanggang Skywalk.
A few years ago, when we visited Chuncheon by ourselves,
the kids were younger, and I remember thinking they'd be scared of the Skywalk,
so we skipped it, haha!
Well, we finally made it!
Parking
We parked the car and used the underground passage, which connected directly to the Skywalk, making it super accessible.

Perhaps because it was a weekday, the parking space was more generous than expected,
so we could use it without any rush.
Chuncheon Bicycle Traveler's Rest Stop

After visiting the restroom, I noticed an observation deck nearby, so I went up to check it out.
Lakeside Observatory

I stumbled upon this place after stopping at the restroom,

and when I went up, the entire lakeside view unfolded before my eyes,
offering a surprisingly great view!
There weren't many people around, which made it perfect for a peaceful exploration.

Looking down from above,
the parking lot looks quite spacious.

There's a Beongae Market (or 'Lightning Market') nearby.
I was hungry, so I went to see if there were any snacks,

but it turns out it's a night market that only opens in the evening!
No wonder nothing was open...

Soyanggang Skywalk

You can use the underground passage from the parking lot
to reach the Skywalk!
There's also the Soyanggang Maiden Statue.

It seems this was placed here because it's the Soyang River.
Oh, and there are lyrics to the 'Soyanggang Maiden' song! 😄
You'll spot so many
adorable ducks around here!

There was even a spot for paddle boats (the adorable duck-shaped kind!),
but we passed them by
and made our way straight to the Skywalk!

Time to head to the ticket booth!

Admission Fee

The admission fee is ~$1, but here's the best part:
you get the full amount back as a local gift certificate,
making it a truly free experience!
It's a fantastic way to boost the local economy!

Now, it's time to take 100 photos! Haha! 😄

Confession time: I'm not usually the biggest fan of skywalks
(they get scarier as I get older!)

...but the kids absolutely adored it! Haha! 😉

Thankfully, it's not entirely transparent;
only a section of the floor in the middle is see-through,
which made it much more manageable than I initially thought!

The sides, thankfully, provide a much more stable surface,
so by taking it slow, it wasn't overwhelming at all.

It was so sweet watching them point out
coins stuck between the floor panels, wondering how to retrieve them!
And of course,
they were buzzing around, snapping photos of everything.

As you stroll further along the bridge,
you'll reach a charming plaza-like area right in the middle.

Even though it features a grid pattern,
making it a bit less intimidating, I still made sure to explore every corner!

The feeling of walking above the river itself was quite unique,
and I could really feel Chuncheon's distinct relaxed atmosphere.
I see a mandarin fish statue.

When there were no people around,
I took some jump shots!

I probably took about 100 shots for this too, haha!
Overall, I visited without huge expectations,
but it turned out to be a surprisingly satisfying course.
Even a timid person like me managed it, haha!
Truly... a curious place,
that was in the middle of my life,
Chuncheon, my love-hate relationship.

Still, coming here with my family,
made for delightful times that felt new again.
