I recently took a fantastic trip to Chuncheon, and let me tell you,
the very first restaurant we visited on our arrival
left such a delicious impression that I just had to share it with you!
📍 Builjeong

Located in Sanong-dong, Chuncheon,
near Hedgehog Island, you'll find a charming spot called
Builjeong.
The parking area was quite spacious,
making it easy to park our car.
This is the interior of Builjeong's main building in Chuncheon.
When we arrived for dinner, the main hall was full,
so we were kindly guided to the annex!
In the annex, it was just our group and one other party,
which made for a much quieter and more enjoyable dining experience.
As I was about to settle into a secluded corner, the owner playfully asked why I'd choose that spot, encouraging us to sit by the wide-open window instead! ㅋㅋ😋
Thanks to her suggestion, we got to enjoy our meal with a stunning view of the North Han River,
which made it even better!
Known for its homemade tofu made from locally sourced beans,
we decided to go with their signature dishes:
Tofu Mushroom Hot Pot for two & Cheonggukjang Hot Pot for two.
And since we were in Gangwon Province, we absolutely had to try their famous
Potato Pancake (Gamja-jeon)!
The first round of side dishes looked incredibly appetizing, didn't they?
Having driven all the way from Seoul early that morning,
we were absolutely starving.
But even beyond our hunger, every single side dish was perfectly seasoned and so delicious
that we polished them all off before our main courses even arrived and asked for a refill! Haha!
The accompanying potato rice cakes (Gamja-tteok)
were a first for me, and what a delightful surprise!
They were beautifully smooth and shiny,
and tasted absolutely wonderful!!!
They reminded me a bit of songpyeon, but with a unique twist~
It was a flavor I'd never experienced before,
and it was incredibly delicious!
Tofu Mushroom Hot Pot for Two
This generous serving of Tofu Mushroom Hot Pot was truly a feast.
It was packed with a wonderful variety of mushrooms,
making every bite an interesting discovery.
The seasoning was neither too salty nor too spicy;
in fact, it was quite mild,
which made it incredibly comforting and allowed the natural flavors of the fresh ingredients to shine through.
The broth was light and refreshing, not heavy at all!
Everyone at our table raved about how delicious it was.🤍🤍
Cheonggukjang Hot Pot for Two
I'm a huge fan of Cheonggukjang (fermented soybean paste stew),
and this dish looked absolutely divine – a true flavor bomb just by its appearance! ...♥
I've had Cheonggukjang at many acclaimed spots before,
but I can confidently say the one here is top-tier.
Mixed with rice,
it was incredibly easy to digest and just slid down effortlessly.~~👍🏻
And then... the Potato Pancake!
It truly confirms that Gangwon Province is the land of potatoes!~~🥔
The potatoes were grated incredibly fine,
making the pancake wonderfully soft – even perfect for kids (though we didn't have any with us, haha!).
The potato aroma was fantastic,
and you know what's the best part of any pancake? The edges!ㅋㅋㅋ
The crispy, golden edges were absolutely irresistible.
After our incredibly satisfying meal,
we stepped outside to enjoy the serene view of the North Han River right in front of the restaurant.~~
Even though the weather was a bit gloomy,
the open view was wonderfully refreshing!~!
With full bellies and happy hearts from the beautiful scenery,
we set off again to continue our Chuncheon adventure!!
If you're planning a trip to Chuncheon,
you absolutely have to visit Builjeong,
a fantastic spot for Tofu Mushroom Hot Pot and Cheonggukjang!
Every single dish we ordered was outstanding,
I can't recommend it enough~!
