Chiang Mai Airport Departure Process
Upon arriving at Chiang Mai International Airport,
you'll check in at your airline counter and drop off your luggage,
then proceed through security and immigration before heading to your boarding gate.

When I was there, the departure hall was quite busy with fellow travelers,
so I'd recommend arriving with plenty of time to spare,
rather than cutting it too close!

Once you've cleared immigration and stepped inside,
you'll discover duty-free shops, restaurants, cafes, souvenir stores, and more –
plenty of facilities to keep you comfortable while waiting for your flight.

Information & ATMs Before Immigration
You can find Information counters and ATMs
on the 1st floor of the airport, before you even go through immigration.

During my visit, ATMs were conveniently located near Arrival Gate 3
and also in the area where Starbucks is.

When I was there,
some cafes and markets inside the departure area
had signs indicating they only accepted cash payments.
So, instead of spending all your leftover Baht before you arrive at the airport, I recommend keeping a little cash on hand to use here!
Restaurants & Cafes at Chiang Mai Airport
If you're wondering about dining options at Chiang Mai Airport,
you'll find places to grab a quick bite or a drink, both before and after security.

When I departed, the airside departure area even had
a Burger King!

At the cafes, you can find not just coffee,
but also easy-to-grab options like sandwiches, croissants, and muffins.

Convenience Stores & Souvenir Shopping
Many of you are probably looking for convenience stores at Chiang Mai Airport.
When I explored, I found
a Mini Market that functions just like one!

Inside, you'll find a surprising variety, from delicious Thai snacks
to sauces, treats, and even souvenirs.

They also stock essentials like beer, soft drinks, and bottled water.

If you didn't quite get all your snacks during your trip,
or need to grab a few last-minute souvenirs, it's definitely worth a browse.

However, as it's an airport store,
prices might differ from supermarkets in the city,
so it's better to do bulk shopping in advance during your trip.
Some stores may only accept cash,
so please check payment methods beforehand.
Chiang Mai Airport Duty-Free Shop
After completing immigration, you can also check out the duty-free shop.
They sell various products like liquor and souvenirs,
and the selection of whiskies, in particular, is more diverse than you might expect!

Brands like Macallan, Balvenie, Johnnie Walker, Royal Salute, and more
are on display, so if you're interested in liquor shopping,
it might be a good idea to take a look before boarding.

Convenience Facilities: VAT Refund, Charging Stations, and More
Beyond shopping and dining, Chiang Mai Airport also offers
a variety of convenience facilities.
First up, you can find the VAT REFUND FOR TOURISTS counter.

If you've purchased VAT-refundable items in Thailand,
it's a good idea to check the refund conditions and procedures, including necessary documents and purchased goods,
before you visit.

There's also a massage parlor within the airport.
If you have some time before your flight, you could get a relaxing massage and unwind a bit at the end of your trip.

And if your phone battery is running low,
there's a Mobile Charger station available for use.

And what really caught my eye personally was
the Chiang Mai Airport photo booth!

Final Thoughts
While Chiang Mai Airport isn't exceptionally large,
it offers a surprisingly diverse range of facilities you might need before your departure.
What's great is that even after passing through immigration,
you can still grab a simple meal and do some shopping, so there's plenty to explore even if you have time before boarding.
If you're heading to Chiang Mai Airport for your departure
and were curious about what restaurants, convenience stores, or duty-free shops it offers,
I hope this post helps you make the most of your final moments of travel!
