Cancun Weather Overview Best Time to Visit Cancun Times to Avoid Cancun |
1. Cancun Weather Overview
Always Warm and Tropical
True to its reputation as a honeymoon hotspot, Cancun's weather is consistently warm, allowing for water activities any time of year.
And as a bonus, you'll always be greeted by that vibrant, deep blue ocean hue!

However, while many Mexican cities are dry, Cancun's coastal location makes it quite humid.
Even so, it often feels less oppressively hot than some other humid climates.
Summers are, of course, hot, but Cancun's winter weather feels more like an early summer day in many temperate regions. Rather than distinct seasons, Cancun's climate is primarily divided into a dry season and a rainy season.
So, when exactly are Cancun's dry and rainy seasons?
2. Best Time to Visit Cancun
The Winter Season
As with any travel destination, rain can easily dampen a trip, so visiting during the dry season is highly recommended.
The best time to visit Cancun is typically between November and March.
This is because Cancun's dry season begins in November. During the day, the weather is warm enough for ocean swimming, and evenings offer pleasant, cooler temperatures perfect for a stroll.

If you don't mind the heat, visiting between May and June can also be a good option. This period falls after Cancun's peak season, meaning you can often find more affordable prices than during the winter!
It's definitely hot, but with the beautiful Caribbean Sea at your disposal, it's easily manageable.
Times to Avoid Cancun
Rainy Season (Hurricanes) and Easter are Not Recommended
There are two main periods when it's best to avoid Cancun.
1️⃣ The Rainy Season
Generally, the rainy season is not recommended for most travel destinations, with perhaps the Uyuni Salt Flats being a notable exception.
Cancun's rainy season begins in July, but the period between August and October is particularly dangerous due to hurricane season. During this time, conditions can become so severe that it might even be difficult to leave your resort's restaurant.

Since this is a time when natural disasters can occur, it's absolutely best to avoid Cancun during the rainy season, especially from August to October.
2️⃣ Easter Week
I once visited Cancun during Easter, Mexico's biggest national holiday, with my extended family. Since Easter is a nationwide holiday, accommodation and flight prices in Cancun can more than double during this period.

Due to the exorbitant prices, an all-inclusive hotel in Cancun wasn't an option. Instead, we opted for the budget-friendly Fiesta Americana Cancun Villas!

While not having an all-inclusive package was a bit of a shame, the resort's facilities were truly excellent for the price. For an affordable Cancun resort or a great value hotel for large families, this place is unbeatable.
