Planning a trip to Calgary, Canada, and thinking about a shopping spree?
Then you've probably already stumbled upon
CrossIron Mills Outlet!
We were especially excited, hoping to snag some great deals on popular brands like
Polo, Lululemon, and Arc'teryx – brands that are super popular
back home in Korea!
To cut to the chase,
we actually only ended up buying one Nike hoodie, lol.
It was tougher than we thought to find exactly what we wanted,
and honestly, the prices weren't quite the bargain we'd hoped for.
But here's a cool tip:
they actually have a special discount card for visitors?!
However, there are a few caveats though, so I'm going to break down everything for you –
from the Calgary outlet's location and how to get there,
to our brand-by-brand shopping review, and details on those discount perks!
1. Location and Operating Hours

General Operating Hours:

Operating hours may vary on Mondays and public holidays,
so it's essential to check the official website for the most up-to-date information on your planned visit date.
CrossIron Mills isn't in downtown Calgary;
it's a massive shopping mall located north of the international airport.
It's roughly a 20-minute drive from downtown
and about 5 km (3 miles) north of Calgary International Airport.
If you find yourself with some extra time in Calgary
before or after exploring Banff or the Canadian Rockies,
this could be a fantastic shopping detour!
2. How to Get to Calgary Outlet

Getting to CrossIron Mills in Calgary is generally easiest by car.
If you've rented a car, simply search for
CrossIron Mills on Google Maps.
No rental? No problem!
You can also opt for Uber or public transportation.
For public transport,
the Airdrie Transit Route 900 bus runs directly to the mall.
It passes through areas like Rundle Station in northeast Calgary and
stops right outside Outlet Entrance 2.
Keep in mind, the bus runs approximately every 60 minutes,
and the one-way cash fare is CAD 5.45.
This fare is separate from Calgary transit cards or general passes,
so plan accordingly!
It's highly recommended to check the timetable in advance,
especially if you miss a bus on your way back after a shopping spree –
you could be waiting a while!
I personally used Uber,
as I was staying at a hotel near the airport.
3. Main Brands Available

CrossIron Mills is a massive shopping complex that's home to both outlet stores and regular retail brand locations.
Some of the featured brands include:
* Polo Ralph Lauren
* Lululemon
* Arc'teryx
* Nike
* Adidas
* Lacoste
* Calvin Klein
* Tommy Hilfiger
* Coach
* New Balance
Here's a crucial point to remember!
Just because a brand has a store in the mall doesn't automatically mean everything is sold at outlet prices.
Some brands are standard retail stores, and discount events or product selections can vary greatly.
The brands we were most excited to check out were
Polo, Lululemon, and Arc'teryx.
We had particularly high hopes for Polo, as we'd heard so many stories about scoring amazing deals at Canadian and US outlets, lol.
4. Honest Price Review

Honestly, Polo was the biggest letdown for us ㅠㅠ.
We'd heard so much about how incredibly cheap you could get Polo at international outlets...
I'd heard so many great things, so my expectations were pretty high,
but once I actually got inside, it turned out to be more expensive than I imagined?!

Of course, it might have been that the items I was really drawn to
were particularly pricey,
but compared to its reputation for being super affordable,
it was just so-so, haha.
Haha
Just because it's an outlet doesn't automatically mean you'll find clothes you love
and buy them at rock-bottom prices.

Beyond Polo, we were also keen on brands like
Lululemon and Arc'teryx.

But ultimately, even at this spot,
we didn't end up buying anything.

The selection of designs wasn't as varied as I'd hoped,
and there weren't many clothes that caught my eye.
(In fact, downtown Vancouver had a much wider range of designs and colors!)
If the prices had been genuinely low, I might have been willing to compromise a little
and make a purchase,
but the prices weren't incredibly appealing either, sadly.
(They were pretty much the same as in Vancouver!)
Of course, this could totally vary depending on when you visit or your personal style.
But based on my own trip,
instead of feeling like there were tons of great finds,
it felt more like there wasn't much worth actually buying.

We checked out several brand stores, including Lacoste,
but honestly, they were just so-so.
5. How to Use the Visitor Discount Card

CrossIron Mills offers
a free discount card for international visitors!
It's called the VIP Visitor Card!
You can pick it up at Guest Services, located near Mall Entrance 2,
and remember, the card is only valid on the day it's issued.
While official guidance suggests you can get up to a 25% discount,
it's important to note that not all stores offer the same discounts!

For instance, you might find:
✔️ Lacoste: An additional 10% off (excluding clearance items)
✔️ Gap Factory: 15% off
✔️ Tommy Hilfiger: 15% off
✔️ New Balance: CAD 15 off purchases of CAD 100 or more
and various other store-specific conditions apply.
But here's where the trick comes in, haha!
Unfortunately, brands we were really interested in, like Arc'teryx,
didn't accept the discount card!
Lululemon also isn't part of the official VIP discount program either.
Even for Polo, it's not simply a matter of flashing the card to get a discount;
they have separate membership sign-up requirements.
So, just because you grab a discount card,
don't automatically expect extra discounts at every single brand.
If you're like us and heading there with specific brands in mind,
make sure to double-check which stores are eligible before you go!

6. What We Bought

After browsing through various stores,
what we ended up buying was a Nike hoodie!
Honestly, we had hoped to find something we loved
at Polo or Arc'teryx,
but we just picked up a basic hoodie for the cold.

No matter how high the discount,
there's no point in buying clothes you don't really love, right?
Still, we didn't come back empty-handed,
and there's some meaning in snagging at least one hoodie, haha!
7. Shopping Tax in Canada

One of the perks of shopping in Calgary is that
the tax burden can be lower than in other Canadian regions.
Alberta, where Calgary is located,
applies a 5% GST to most taxable goods.
In contrast, British Columbia, home to Vancouver,
applies a 5% GST and 7% PST on general apparel.
For example, if you buy an item of clothing pre-tax for CAD 100,
it would cost CAD 105 in Calgary,
and CAD 112 in Vancouver.
So, for the same pre-tax price,
there's a CAD 7 difference!
That's why many people come to Calgary to shop.
And that was our plan too... ;D
However, just because the taxes are lower,
it doesn't automatically mean the final price for all products
will be cheaper.
Store promotions and exchange rates play a big role too!
Notably, Canada doesn't have a general shopping tax refund system for tourists,
so always double-check the final amount when you're at the checkout.
8. Would I Recommend Calgary Outlets?

Calgary's CrossIron Mills is
a large shopping mall with a wide variety of brands.
You can browse many stores all at once,
and if you're looking for a place to shop near Calgary Airport,
it might be worth considering a visit.
However, personally,
I'm not sure if the price advantage is significant enough
to warrant a special trip just for shopping.

Polo was more expensive than I expected,
and I didn't find many designs I really liked
in other stores either.
While there are visitor discount cards,
it was disappointing that they often couldn't be used
at the brands I actually wanted to buy from.
So, if your Canada travel itinerary is packed,
I don't think you necessarily need to prioritize the outlets.
I actually think it might have been better to just head to downtown Calgary
and pop into stores there.
On the other hand, if you love shopping
and have specific brands or products in mind,
then checking out the sales events and prices beforehand
and planning your visit could be worthwhile.
If you do plan to visit,
be sure to check the brand-specific sales and VIP discount conditions
in advance!
