Hey there, fellow travelers!
It's your wanderlust-fueled friend, Suseukkotdari, here to share another adventure.
Just last week, a long weekend was approaching, but I had zero travel plans, still recovering from a trip to Yangyang. I was ready for some serious relaxation.
But then, on July 17th, 2026, around 5 PM, a sudden, irresistible urge hit me – I *had* to go somewhere!
And just like that, I was off on a whirlwind trip to Buyeo! My mission: to witness the incredible lotus blooms at Gungnamji!
Gungnamji Seodong Lotus Festival

Good timing too, because the Gungnamji Seodong Lotus Festival was just wrapping up that week. The lotus flowers at Gungnamji are truly a magnificent spectacle, but I hadn't dared to return since my last visit.
Dealing with July's intense heat is no easy feat. The lotuses are breathtakingly beautiful, but being exposed to the scorching sun for hours was just too much.

This time, my decision to visit Gungnamji was actually swayed by the weather forecast – rain! I figured if it wasn't a torrential downpour, a gentle rain would add a beautifully atmospheric and picturesque touch to the scenery.
And if it *did* pour, I had a backup plan: a trip to the Buyeo National Museum.

Sure enough, my 'weather fairy' luck held out! The rain cleared. It was a little humid, but truly, it couldn't have been a more perfect day for lotus viewing.
When I arrived at Gungnamji, even though the festival was in its final days, there were still quite a few people. The official parking lot was full, but the smaller, adjacent lot had plenty of available spaces.
Stepping into Gungnamji, I was greeted by a breathtaking sea of pink lotus flowers. Wow!
Lotus Bloom Status on July 18th, 2026

Unfortunately, the white lotuses (Baengnyeon) were mostly past their peak. Many petals had fallen, leaving behind only seed pods. However, a few late-blooming white lotuses still offered their pure, pristine beauty, which helped soothe my disappointment.

The pink lotuses (Hongnyeon), on the other hand, were at their absolute peak! With a mix of unopened buds and fully blossomed flowers, I was able to fully immerse myself in the vibrant waves of deep pink. These gorgeous pink blooms, peeking out beautifully from the broad green lotus leaves, made every photo a masterpiece.
I expect the pink lotuses will continue to be stunning through next week (late July 2026). If you're hoping to see them this summer, now's your chance – head over soon!

The water lilies and other aquatic plants were also in full bloom. Purple, yellow, and red water lilies floated colorfully on the water, making for a truly delightful sight.
You can likely still catch them looking beautiful through next week as well.
Gungnamji Pond

As you wander through the lotus ponds, you'll eventually encounter the Poroyongjeong Pavilion, gracefully floating on the water. While beautiful up close, it looks even more magnificent when photographed from a distance.
Gungnamji is a place where you can truly feel the grandeur of the ancient Baekje Kingdom, intertwined with the legendary tales of King Mu and Princess Seonhwa. The sheer scale of this artificial lake, an engineering marvel of its time, is a testament to their prosperity and ingenuity.
Lotte Resort Buyeo

One thing I learned definitively from this trip: for accommodation in Buyeo, Lotte Resort Buyeo is simply the best choice.
My impromptu trip meant I was searching for a room on the fly, and unfortunately, Lotte Resort Buyeo was completely booked. It turns out Buyeo doesn't have a huge number of hotels, so even the motels were full!
I ended up at a motel on the outskirts of Buyeo, which felt straight out of the 1980s – quite a disappointing stay, to say the least.
Still regretting missing out on Lotte Resort Buyeo, I did some searching and stumbled upon a fantastic special offer!

It's part of a 'Yeogi Eottae Open Run' event, a flash sale on a popular Korean travel booking app. This special, featuring Lotte Resort Buyeo, kicked off today, Monday, July 20th, 2026, at precisely 10:00 AM.
You can book Lotte Resort Buyeo starting from ~$118, a fantastic 59% discount!
Plus, if you sign up for 'Next Lineup' notifications on the Yeogi Eottae app, you can instantly get an additional ~$3 discount coupon specifically for these 'Open Run' accommodations.

There's also a first-come, first-served 30% discount coupon available from 10 AM, so make sure to set your alarms!
Don't end up in a questionable motel like I did! Set your alarm for 10 AM this morning and try your luck. I'm planning to join the rush myself – the check-in period is generous, so I'll book now for a fall trip.
Wrapping Up

To wrap things up, a trip to Buyeo in July truly starts with the lotus flowers and beautifully concludes with a dive into Baekje history.
Despite a small hiccup with my accommodation on the first night, I feel incredibly lucky to have experienced Gungnamji's tranquil beauty and vibrant pink lotuses after the rain.
Don't let the lotus season pass you by without a visit to Buyeo! Just make sure you grab your accommodation deals in advance.
