Craving authentic Korean flavors in Buyeo? Join us for a detailed review of Solnaeum Restaurant, famous for its exquisite lotus leaf rice and juicy tteokgalbi.

Hello, I'm Lemontree!
For this summer vacation, my friend and I went on a trip to Buyeo.
One of the dishes I absolutely had to try when visiting Buyeo was lotus leaf rice and tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patties).
Among them, **Solnaeum Restaurant**, renowned as a **must-visit spot for Buyeo lotus leaf rice** and a **top tteokgalbi restaurant in Buyeo**,
was a place I had eagerly wanted to visit even before our trip.
So, on this Buyeo trip, I got to try **Solnaeum's Yeonjeongsik (Lotus Set Meal)**.
Here's my review of Solnaeum, a fantastic restaurant in Buyeo where I savored both lotus leaf rice and tteokgalbi at once.
Let's dive into the details now!

[Tteokgalbi - Pork Tteokgalbi & Beef Tteokgalbi]

When I searched for 'best restaurants in Buyeo,' the first dish that caught my eye
was none other than **Solnaeum Restaurant's tteokgalbi**, making it the main dish I was most curious about.
We wanted to try both Korean pork tteokgalbi and Korean beef tteokgalbi,
so we ordered the **Yeonjeongsik (Lotus Set Meal) (~$18 per person)**.
For two people, we were served **two Korean pork tteokgalbi patties and two Korean beef tteokgalbi patties**, and
they arrived on elegant plates reminiscent of the **Baekje Gilt-bronze Incense Burner**,
a truly impressive presentation that perfectly captured the unique atmosphere of Buyeo.

The Baekje Gilt-bronze Incense Burner-shaped plate wasn't just a decorative dish;
like a real incense burner, it had **a small candle underneath to keep the tteokgalbi warm**, which
I thought was a truly brilliant idea.
So, what about the tteokgalbi taste that many of you are probably most curious about?

The tteokgalbi in the photo is the Korean pork tteokgalbi.
As I'm usually quite sensitive to the specific smell of pork, it wasn't overly strong, but
I did detect a subtle hint of it in the aftertaste.
Nevertheless, the texture of the finely ground pork was delightful, and the subtle smoky aroma complemented it wonderfully.

This photo, however, shows the Korean beef tteokgalbi.
The Korean beef tteokgalbi was impeccably clean and free of any unwanted smell, but
Personally, I think it would have been even better if there was a sauce to go with it.
Overall, it was on the plainer side, so to my taste, the seasoning felt a bit mild.
Honestly, if you only consider the tteokgalbi itself, as the main dish,
even in Seoul, it's not hard to find delicious handmade tteokgalbi specialty restaurants,
so this alone didn't feel particularly special to me.
But!
If you consider the other dishes I'm about to introduce below, along with the overall composition, it's a different story.
Because of these elements, I confidently recommend Solnaeum Restaurant as a must-visit during your Buyeo trip,
ranking it as my top choice for a Buyeo restaurant.
[Lotus Leaf Wrapped Rice]

The most memorable thing at Solnaeum Restaurant, the first impressive point!
It was being able to taste lotus leaf wrapped rice, made using whole lotus leaves that we saw abundantly even at Gungnammji Pond, which we visited during our Buyeo trip.
Eating lotus leaf wrapped rice directly in Buyeo allowed me to truly feel the local characteristics, making it even more special.

When I unfolded the lotus leaf, a healthy black rice dish, generously filled with black beans, ginkgo nuts, pumpkin seeds, raisins, and more, revealed itself.
The subtle scent of the lotus leaf, combined with the chewy texture of the rice, made it truly delicious.
Even without other side dishes, eating just the lotus leaf wrapped rice alone was satisfying enough; personally, it was a menu item more memorable than the tteokgalbi.
But no matter how delicious the rice is, it would feel incomplete if the side dishes were lacking!
The Yeonjeongsik (Lotus Set Meal) came with 10 different side dishes, making it even more impressive.
[Doenjang Jjigae, Mushroom Tangsuyuk, Spicy Cucumber Salad, Kimchi]

Since 10 different side dishes were served,
honestly, I didn't expect the quality of each side dish to be this high.
Seeing the table set neatly and lavishly, reminiscent of a king's royal meal, I was so satisfied that I felt like I had made the right choice to come to Buyeo for this trip.
The rich and flavorful Doenjang Jjigae was so delicious, you wouldn't even notice if someone disappeared while eating it!
It was also packed with ingredients, so I really enjoyed it.
With the chewy lotus leaf rice combined with the Doenjang Jjigae, the umami flavor was enhanced, and my mouth was truly happy.

The mushroom tangsuyuk, with its sweet and sour sauce and crispy batter,
combined with fresh mushrooms, was truly delicious.

The cucumbers from Buyeo were unusually large.
Because the spicy cucumber salad was made with such large cucumbers, it had an exceptional crunch,
and the seasoning was truly delicious.
[Shredded Green Onion Salad, Black Sesame Salad, Bean Sprout Salad, Aster Leaf Salad]

Made with fresh vegetables from Buyeo,
the various vegetable side dishes were incredibly fragrant and delicious.

The side dish made with seasoned bean sprouts, shredded green onions, and fresh sprouts
paired perfectly with the tteokgalbi!
[Eggplant Namul, Samsekjeon (Three-Color Pancakes), Potato Salad]

Even though I'm usually not a big fan of eggplant namul,
this particular eggplant namul had fresh eggplant and a savory, delicious sauce, making it truly delicious.

Personally, the samsekjeon felt like the most delicious side dish.
I think it was even better than the tteokgalbi. 😆

At first, I wondered if it was ice cream, but it turned out to be potato salad. It was incredibly smooth and finely textured, melting in my mouth the moment I put it in, which was unique.

The braised lotus root, made with fresh lotus roots, was also perfectly to my taste!
3. Solnaeum Restaurant Atmosphere (Exterior · Interior)

The exterior of Solnaeum Restaurant was a charming cabin style with a pretty orange roof.
The reason I was able to take these clear photos was because we did an 'open run'.
I'd heard that it gets really crowded on weekends, so my friend and I arrived even before the restaurant opened.

This is what the main entrance of Solnaeum looked like!

As you might guess from the exterior, the interior of Solnaeum Restaurant
featured beautiful wooden decor.
It seemed like the second floor was primarily for customers with Naver advance reservations.

In the central hall on the first floor where the counter is located,
there was even an old-fashioned, stove-like fixture, which added to the charming ambiance.

While room reservations were available for advance bookings, my friend and I went without one,
so we sat in the main hall. But even there, the tables were spaced comfortably apart,
making it perfect for enjoying a private conversation over our meal.

This was a private room that could accommodate up to six people,
and I managed to snap a photo when no one was inside.
I'd definitely like to use it the next time I visit with my family.

The fact that you can enjoy coffee or onion skin tea as you leave after your meal
really showed the owner of Solnaeum's dedication to treating guests well, and I appreciated that.
Receipt Review Event - Free Americano

When you wrote a receipt review, you could get a complimentary Americano.
It turns out, the famous 'Yulga-ga,' a representative Buyeo cafe, is right next door,
so you actually get your Americano from Yulga-ga!
And the Yuljam (chestnut jam) made from Buyeo chestnuts, which was on display, was also sold at Yulga-ga!
(I'll cover my review of Yulga-ga in a separate post soon!)
4. Overall Review
Among all the restaurants I visited on this Buyeo trip, if I were to go back to Buyeo,
and had to choose one place I'd revisit, I think I'd pick Solnaeum Restaurant.
Honestly, while the Tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patties) alone was a little less to my taste, the overall satisfaction from the entire meal was incredibly high. From the charmingly subtle lotus leaf fragrance of Buyeo's Lotus Leaf Rice to each and every one of the perfectly neat and delicious ten side dishes, it was all fantastic.
What's more, I truly felt the local charm of dining in Buyeo, with dishes like the Tteokgalbi served in a plate reminiscent of the Baekje Gilt-bronze Incense Burner, and the lotus leaf rice made with a whole lotus leaf.
This made it an even more memorable dining spot during our trip.
The restaurant's atmosphere was cozy, and with private rooms available,
it's a great choice for friends or couples on a Buyeo culinary trip,
and I'd also highly recommend it as a family dining spot for a Buyeo trip with parents.
If you're looking for a Buyeo restaurant, or a spot for Buyeo Lotus Leaf Rice or Buyeo Tteokgalbi, I highly recommend trying Solnaeum Restaurant's Yeonjeongsik (Lotus Set Menu), where you can savor a hearty Korean set meal with a variety of side dishes.
It was truly a neat and delicious Korean restaurant that I'd love to visit again on my next trip to Buyeo! 😊
