When you travel to Beijing, China, supermarket shopping is

one of the must-do activities on your itinerary!

Today, I'll briefly introduce a **shopping list of Beijing travel souvenirs

you can pick up at Wumart**, a fantastic supermarket to visit in downtown Beijing!

Recommended Shopping List for Your Beijing Trip at Wumart

Wumart (Chaocai Store)

Operating Hours: Daily 08:30-21:00 Location: 1 minute from Dongsi (东四) Subway Station

The **Wumart Chaocai (朝菜) branch** I visited is

**near the Dongsi (东西) subway station**, making it close to Wangfujing.

**Operating hours are from 8:30 AM to 9:00 PM**, which is a bit of a shame

since it doesn't stay open very late. The store is as big as a hypermarket, so it's quite spacious;

I recommend setting aside plenty of time to explore!

Now, let's dive into some souvenirs worth grabbing at Wumart, one by one, below!

1. Snacks

First up are Chinese **snacks**, perfect for grabbing a quick treat!

📍 First, let's talk about **Lay's Potato Chips**.

Lay's come in both bag and canister (tube) forms, and the texture of the chips differs depending on the packaging.

Personally, I highly recommend the Cucumber flavor Lay's chips.

It's quite unique and surprisingly delicious!

Even the Cucumber flavor Lay's chips have different tastes depending on whether they're in a bag or a canister, so grab both and try them side-by-side to compare!

The canister Lay's chips are also sold in multi-packs, so make sure to pick one that includes the Cucumber flavor!

The Lime and Original flavors are also surprisingly fantastic, so if you have the space, I'd suggest stocking up on those too!

📍 Next up: **Oreos**.

You can find Oreos almost anywhere in the world, but China offers an incredible variety of unique flavors!

For souvenirs, I also recommend the Oreo variety packs with five different flavors, just like the one pictured above!

Beyond that, you'll find over 10 flavors like fig, strawberry, peach, grape, vanilla, and more, so pick out whatever suits your fancy!

📍 Next, we have **Buffalo Milk Cake**! These mini castella cakes are perfect even for kids.

Since buffalo milk cakes are not common outside of China, I bought some to try, and they pair really well with coffee!

2. Instant Noodles

📍 The second item on our shopping list is **Cilantro Instant Noodles**! Even if you're not a big fan of cilantro, like me, you can enjoy these noodles without much hesitation.

The cilantro aroma is very subtle, and the taste is quite similar to a miso-based instant noodle from Korea.

I only bought one cup noodle version, but it was so good that I've already decided to get the packet version next time I visit!

3. Sauces

Third on the list are **sauces**!

China is a country that uses an incredibly diverse range of sauces, so

The supermarket had a wide variety of sauces too.

📍 First up, the most famous Haidilao

Mala Xiang Guo sauce!

If you just prepare the Mala Xiang Guo ingredients and use this sauce,

it actually tastes pretty good!

For those who enjoy cooking at home,

definitely grab some Haidilao sauce!

📍 Next up is oyster sauce, perfect for cooking.

While there are many types of oyster sauce available back home,

Chinese oyster sauce is so affordable, so I had to grab one.

There were over 10 varieties, and after much deliberation,

I picked up the 26% oyster sauce that a supermarket staff member

said they personally use.

At only 8 yuan, it felt like a total steal!

📍 China is also famous for its doubanjiang and chili oil, you know.

The prices are low, and the volumes are huge,

so I grabbed one of each.

Even if you just stir-fry them simply with fish cakes or vegetables,

they taste surprisingly good!

If you're someone who loves to cook,

make sure to check out the wide array of sauces too!

4. Teas

My fourth recommended item is tea.

China is a country with a highly developed tea culture,

so there's an incredible variety of teas.

Below, I'll only introduce the teas I personally purchased.

Let's dive in!

📍 First up is Da Hong Pao Wuyi Rock Tea.

Wuyi Rock Tea is a representative type of Oolong tea,

known for its rich, roasted flavor.

While it's typically known to be quite expensive,

I managed to snag an affordable version at the supermarket.

📍 Next is Taoyuanming Black Tea.

I was wondering which black tea to buy,

and ended up choosing this one because the tin looked pretty!

The price was so cheap that I didn't expect much from the taste,

but it was surprisingly drinkable!

5. Alcoholic Beverages

Next up are beers and baijiu.

While Chinese beers come in an incredibly wide variety,

at the time, there was beer around 1 yuan for 500ml.

It was a price I simply couldn't pass up, so I grabbed it right away.

There are so many beers on discount like this,

so you might want to buy some alcoholic beverages not just for souvenirs,

but also to enjoy during your trip.

Chinese gaoliang liquor (baijiu) also filled an entire section,

with so many varieties, most of which I'd never seen before,

making it hard to decide what to buy.

📍 Since Erguotou is famous in Beijing,

I picked up two bottles of Erguotou myself.

Just like with beer, there were many Erguotou bottles

on discount from their original prices, so make sure to look around carefully,

and you might just find a fantastic deal!

6. Toothpaste

📍 Finally, the last item I want to recommend for your shopping list is

toothpaste!

You might be thinking, 'Toothpaste? Why toothpaste?'

Personally, I'm quite fond of Darlie and Colgate toothpastes because of their strong, refreshing flavors.

And both of them were actually cheaper than in Korea!

So, if you're like me and prefer Darlie or Colgate toothpastes,

I definitely recommend stocking up a reasonable amount at Wumart!

Just a heads-up, though: they tend to be quite heavy for their size,

so if you buy too many,

you might exceed your baggage allowance. Definitely keep that in mind!
