If you're planning a trip to Beijing,
you'll find yourself amidst a vibrant scene of amazing eateries and fantastic shopping.
And chances are, you'll definitely want to visit Wangfujing, right in the heart of the city!
Today, let's dive into a culinary gem located in APM Mall, one of Beijing Wangfujing's iconic shopping destinations.
I'm talking about Grandma's Home (Waipojia), a must-visit restaurant in APM Mall!

Grandma's Home (Waipojia) Wangfujing APM Mall Branch 外婆家 |
Opening Hours: 10:30 AM - 9:00 PM Location: APM Shopping Mall, 6th Floor |
Grandma's Home (Waipojia) is a renowned chain restaurant across China,
and it's particularly popular among Korean travelers!
📍 The Wangfujing branch of Grandma's Home is conveniently located on the 6th floor of APM Mall,
making it super easy to access.

We visited around 1 PM and, honestly, thought we might avoid the wait.
So, we didn't make a reservation,
However, there were still two groups ahead of us!
If you prefer to secure your spot in advance, you can easily make a reservation using the Dianping (大众点评)
app. Simply select your party size within the app and book away!

Luckily, with only two groups ahead, we waited just about 10 minutes
before being shown to our table.
We expected a table for four,
but to our surprise, we were led to a spacious table for seven!

Grandma's Home (Waipojia) offers a fantastic array of dishes that really hit the spot for Korean palates,
and honestly, many of them are universally loved!
Among the many delights, here are the dishes we absolutely recommend:
📌 Recommended Dishes
Braised Pork Belly (红烧肉) 98 Yuan
Beef Fried Rice (牛肉炒饭) 58 Yuan
Stir-fried Cantonese Choy Sum (广式菜心) 26 Yuan
Mapo Tofu (麻婆豆腐) 9.9 Yuan
Garlic Vermicelli Prawns (蒜蓉粉丝虾) 58 Yuan

To place your order, simply scan the QR code on your table
with your phone.
Next up, I'll be sharing our thoughts on the delicious dishes we ordered!

First things first, we were craving a refreshing beer,
so we asked for Shunsheng Beer and some ice.
Do note that you usually have to ask for ice separately,
so if you need some, just let the staff know!
Shunsheng Beer has a wonderfully smooth finish,
making it the perfect companion for richer Chinese dishes.

📍 Mapo Tofu
Mapo Tofu was the first dish to arrive.
It only costs ~$1, making it a real gem among Wai Po Jia's
menu items for its incredible value.

The tofu was incredibly soft, almost like silken tofu,
and the sauce had a gentle spiciness, perfectly suited to Korean tastes.
It pairs wonderfully with plain white rice or fried rice,
though the oily flavor was a bit more pronounced than Korean Mapo Tofu.

📍 Beef Fried Rice
Next up were the Beef Fried Rice and Stir-fried Morning Glory.
The portion was a bit small for Chinese fried rice,
and at 58 yuan (about ~$8), it was on the pricey side.
Still, with beef generously mixed throughout,
it tasted delicious and paired wonderfully with the Mapo Tofu.
While the portion might be modest, it’s a universally appealing dish
that I think you’d enjoy ordering.

📍 Stir-fried Morning Glory
The Stir-fried Morning Glory came with a light soy sauce
and was topped with fresh garlic.
Unlike the morning glory dishes usually enjoyed in Vietnam,
this one had a unique, rich yet clean oily flavor,
and it complemented the Hongshao Rou (Braised Pork Belly) that came later perfectly.
If you're looking to order a vegetable dish,
I highly recommend the Stir-fried Morning Glory.

📍 Hongshao Rou (Braised Pork Belly)
This was my first time ordering Wai Po Jia's Hongshao Rou,
and the presentation was absolutely stunning.
With tender pork belly and even abalone on top,
I knew I'd made an excellent choice to order it.
For reference, compared to the Dongpo Rou I tried at Wai Po Jia in Qingdao,
the sauce here was sweeter and relatively less oily,
making this a truly unforgettable and delicious dish.
If you're a fan of meat, you absolutely must order this!

The ratio of fat to lean meat was absolutely perfect,
but it's still quite rich, so you might find it a bit oily.
That's where the Stir-fried Morning Glory with garlic comes in!
Just one bite, and that richness will vanish, leaving you refreshed.

Not only the pork, but the abalone also had a fantastic synergy with the unique sauce,
making it absolutely delicious.
Its chewy texture also complemented the fried rice perfectly.
Hongshao Rou is definitely my top pick to eat again!

📍 Garlic Vermicelli Shrimp
The Garlic Vermicelli Shrimp is an absolute must-try if you love garlic.
It comes with a generous twelve plump shrimps,
making it a great value for the price.

Underneath the garlic-laden shrimp, you'll find a bed of vermicelli noodles,
and it even came with some clams.
The sweet and savory garlic sauce
was a fantastic match for the plump shrimp.

Since the Garlic Vermicelli Shrimp has a delicious savory flavor,
it's also a perfect pairing with a refreshing beer.
Just a heads-up: this dish takes quite a while to prepare,
so it's best to order it right at the start of your meal rather than as a re-order
if you want to enjoy it alongside your other dishes.

If you're looking for a great restaurant in Beijing's Wangfujing,
I'd highly recommend **Grandma's Home (Waipojia) at APM Mall**.
For a meal for four, it was **261.9 Yuan (approximately ~$36)**,
meaning you can enjoy a delicious meal for just over ~$7 per person,
making it a restaurant with fantastic value for money.
Plus, they have many dishes that suit a variety of palates,
and you can order a wide variety of dishes to share,
so it's even better if you go with a group!
While most of the dishes we ordered were delicious,
**for me, the absolute standout was the Hongshao Rou (Braised Pork Belly).**
You *must* try the Hongshao Rou!

Finally, let me share **a tip for getting a discount at Grandma's Home (Waipojia)**!

saving us 21.64 Yuan (approximately ~$3)!
