Zuoting Youyuan Hotpot Beijing 2026: Wangfujing's Fresh Beef
Discover Zuoting Youyuan, Beijing's fresh beef hotpot sensation in Wangfujing APM. Experience top-tier ingredients and a unique presentation that's sure to impress any foodie.
Hello, this is Moarang :)
Whenever I travel to China, hotpot is always a must-try for me.
This time, instead of the famous chain Haidilao,
I wanted to discover a different hotpot spot, so I did some searching
and this is the place I ended up visiting.
It's none other than Zuoting Youyuan Fresh Beef Hotpot,
located in the Wangfujing APM Mall in Beijing!
If you've watched Beijing travel vlogs on YouTube, you might even know it as the hotpot place recommended by Captain Dagge.
I was curious after seeing Captain Dagge's recommendation, and when I visited myself, I was truly impressed by so many things – from the incredibly fresh beef and spotless interior to the super friendly staff.
A Hotpot Gem in Wangfujing APM Mall
Name: 左庭右院
📍 Beijing apm
138 Wang Fu Jing Da Jie, Dong Cheng Qu, China 100006
The place I visited is Zuoting Youyuan (左庭右院) Fresh Beef Hotpot,
nestled inside the Wangfujing APM Mall.

True to its name, this hotpot restaurant places a huge emphasis on using only the freshest beef.

They even have the beef on display right at the front of the restaurant,
so you get an immediate sense that fresh beef is their star attraction
even before you step inside.
And once you order your beef, you'll get to witness a unique and rather fun presentation that's special to this place.
Where Fresh Beef is Artfully Presented Standing Up on the Plate

When you order the beef for your hotpot,
it arrives perfectly adhered to the plate.
What was truly fascinating was how they brought the plates to us, almost standing upright,
with the meat still firmly attached, showcasing its incredible freshness!

It's a bit like how fresh Korean 'mungtigi' (beef sashimi) is served stuck to the plate,
directly showing off the meat's freshness with your own eyes, if you know what I mean?
Seeing this even before taking a bite of the beef really built up my anticipation!
A Spotless Wangfujing Hotpot Experience

Beyond the amazing food, what truly delighted me was how incredibly clean and well-kept the restaurant was.

The self-service bar, in particular, left a lasting impression.

The vegetables were arranged so neatly that when I first saw them, I honestly wondered if they were plastic models – that's how perfect and fresh they looked!

The colors were vibrant, and every single vegetable looked so crisp and fresh, giving me the impression that their ingredient management is top-notch.

In many hotpot restaurants, with guests helping themselves to various ingredients, the vegetable section can sometimes be a bit messy. But here, even the self-service bar was incredibly clean, which I truly appreciated!
Ordering in Chinese Restaurants: The QR Code Experience

Ordering was super convenient: you just scan the QR code
on your table with your phone and place your order directly.
These days, as you explore restaurants across China,
you'll find that QR code ordering
is incredibly widespread.
You can easily browse the menu on your phone,
select what you want, and place your order. It's incredibly convenient because
you don't have to painstakingly explain each dish to the staff in Chinese!

One thing I realized during my trip to China is just how much
you'll need internet access – more than you might initially think!
Beyond ordering via QR codes in restaurants,
you'll constantly be using your phone for map navigation, translations, searching for tourist information, and even payments
throughout your journey.
So, if you're planning a trip to China,
I highly recommend making sure you have plenty of data.
I prepared an eSIM in advance, and it was
incredibly convenient not having to buy a separate local SIM card –
I could use it right away!
If China is on your travel radar, be sure to add a generous eSIM plan
to your essential packing list!
Three Broths: Tomato, Mushroom, and Mala!

We opted for three types of broth:
tomato, mushroom, and mala.
Normally, when I go to Haidilao, I absolutely adore
the tomato broth, so I was really looking forward to it this time too.
However, compared to the Haidilao tomato broth
I'm so fond of, this one felt a bit thinner and lighter.
So, I didn't find myself reaching for the tomato broth much.
Out of the three, the Mala broth was definitely the most delicious!
In the end, I found myself mostly eating the Mala broth that day.
If you're a fan of Haidilao's tomato broth, you might find this one
a bit different, just like I did. But if you love Mala broth,
I think you'll find it perfectly suited to your taste!
Shrimp Paste on the Menu Too!

And, of course, we ordered the shrimp paste—
it's practically a must-have for hotpot!

Seriously, you *have* to try the shrimp paste!
Since it's made with fresh shrimp, the bouncy texture is absolutely fantastic! Haha.
Tripe: My Curiosity Piqued by Chinese Dramas

This time, I decided to order an ingredient
I hadn't tried before.
When you watch Chinese dramas, you often see scenes
where people add tripe to their hotpot, right?
I was really curious about what it tasted like, so I ordered it
for the first time, and it tasted exactly like the tripe I've had in Korea! Haha.
Rather than the flavor itself, the charm of tripe lies in its unique
crunchy and chewy texture.
We also ordered duck intestine along with it, and this, too,
was fun because of its satisfying chewiness.
So, personally, if you're someone who values texture in your hotpot,
I'd highly recommend trying tripe or duck intestine at least once.
It's much more enjoyable to mix in ingredients with different textures
rather than just continuously eating soft beef.
The Staff Were Incredibly Friendly Too!
Beyond the food, what really stood out to me
was how incredibly friendly the staff were.
Throughout our ordering and meal,
they constantly checked if we needed anything
and attentively looked after us.

The restaurant was clean, and with such friendly staff,
it truly felt like a well-managed establishment overall.

As we were finishing our meal, they even brought us dessert.
It was a tiny, finger-sized ice pop, and its cuteness
and small size were quite amusing.
I can't recall the exact flavor, but it was slightly tangy
and refreshing, perfect for cleansing the palate after hotpot.
Receiving such a thoughtful dessert allowed us to end
our meal on a perfectly pleasant note.
If you're looking for hotpot beyond Haidilao!

Are you tired of Haidilao?
Do you want to try a different hotpot spot?
Then I highly recommend 'Zuo Zheng You Yuan' – it's just as clean
and friendly as Haidilao! Haha.

I loved how they highlighted fresh beef,
along with the clean restaurant and fresh self-service bar.
Especially if you're shopping or sightseeing in Wangfujing
and looking for a place to eat at the nearby APM Mall,
definitely give this place a visit~!
I actually found this place through a recommendation from Captain Dage,
and after trying it, it was really interesting to experience hotpot
with such fresh beef.
If you're in Beijing's Wangfujing area and looking for a hotpot
restaurant other than Haidilao, keep this one in mind!
