Beijing September 2026: Weather, Packing & eSIM Guide
Planning a September 2026 trip to Beijing? Get insider tips on weather, what to pack, and how to stay connected with VPN-free eSIM/SIM options for an unforgettable journey.
Beijing September Weather |

Hello, explorers!
I'm Nihao Lily, your Greater China travel blogger.
September in Beijing brings warm afternoons,
but mornings and evenings cool down quickly.
With many outdoor walking itineraries planned
for sites like the Forbidden City, Summer Palace, and the Great Wall,
preparing your wardrobe and communication essentials is crucial.
Many travelers, in particular, worry about whether they can
use Google and KakaoTalk normally in China.
I'm here to share how to get a 20% discount on eSIMs/SIMs
that you can use without a VPN, along with details on unlimited data plans.
What you'll find in this post: ✔️ Beijing September temperatures and rainfall ✔️ Recommended outfits for early, mid, and late September ✔️ How to use eSIMs/SIMs without a VPN ✔️ Unlimited data plans and a 20% discount ✔️ Essential packing for your Beijing trip |
1. Beijing September Weather
September in Beijing is a beautiful transitional period
from summer to autumn.
✔️ Average temperature: approximately 20°C
✔️ Average high temperature: approximately 26°C
✔️ Average low temperature: approximately 14-15°C
✔️ Average humidity: approximately 68%
✔️ Average precipitation: approximately 46-53mm
✔️ Approximately 8 rainy days
In early September, daytime temperatures can sometimes
climb to around 30°C, making it feel quite summery.
However, temperatures drop significantly after sunset,
creating a clear difference between day and night.
From mid-September, the air becomes cooler, and by late September,
a light outer layer is definitely needed for mornings and evenings.
The Great Wall, in particular, has stronger winds than the city center,
so it can feel even chillier on the same day.
While there's less rain than in summer, the possibility of
showers or heavy rain still remains.
For accuracy, it's best to check the overall weather trend 7 days before your Beijing departure,
and then re-confirm the hourly forecast the day before you travel.

2. What to Wear in Beijing in September
In early September, short-sleeved shirts and light trousers are comfortable;
also prepare a hat, sunglasses, and a parasol to shield from the sun.
A light shirt is also handy for indoor air conditioning and cooler evenings.
From mid-September onwards, layering a cardigan or a light windbreaker
over a short-sleeved shirt is ideal.
For late September or your Great Wall itinerary,
light long trousers and an outer layer will be more comfortable.
You'll do a lot of walking during your Beijing trip.
Opt for comfortable, broken-in sneakers rather than new shoes,
and always keep a folding umbrella in your bag for unexpected rain.

3. Beijing eSIMs/SIMs
When using local Chinese SIMs or Wi-Fi,
some international services like Google, YouTube, and Instagram may be restricted.
Constantly turning on a VPN whenever you need it
can be quite cumbersome during your trip.

The travel eSIM/USIM I recommend
uses an international roaming network, so
the big advantage is that you don't need to install a separate VPN
to use KakaoTalk, Google Maps, and Instagram
right away.
When you're trying to find your way, looking at **Gaode Maps** (Amap) and a **translator**, or needing to open a **tourist attraction reservation screen**,
having immediate internet access is
truly crucial for actual travel, isn't it?
You won't need to deal with a VPN as soon as you arrive in China,
which cuts down one step in your travel prep.

Check Discount Price |
eSIMs are installed via QR,
so you don't have to remove your existing SIM card,
and there's no need to pick it up at the airport, which is super convenient.
However, you *do* need to **check if your phone**
**supports eSIMs**.
👉🏻 Check eSIM compatible devices
USIMs need to be physically inserted into your phone, but
they generally have fewer compatibility concerns with phone models, and
they can be used even with phones that don't support eSIMs.
Do note that data-only products might not provide
a local phone number.
Unlimited Plan Discount
When traveling in China, you'll constantly be using maps, translation,
messengers, and uploading photos, so data can drain faster than you expect.
If you don't want to constantly check your usage,
an **unlimited plan offers peace of mind.**
Currently, if you use the affiliate link,
you can get a 20% discount on China eSIMs/USIMs, and
even unlimited plans start from around ~$7.
**While 2-3GB was enough for me in Shanghai, where I frequently traveled,**
this time, visiting Beijing after a long time, I found myself doing a lot more
map-checking and searching, and I occasionally ran out of data.
If you haven't traveled much in China,
I highly recommend an unlimited data plan!
❣️ Get 20% off China eSIM/USIM
**For installation,** do the QR registration in advance
while you're still in your home country with internet access, but
**switch your data line *after* you arrive in China.**
Simply turn off data roaming for your existing SIM
and set your travel eSIM as the primary line.

5. Beijing Travel Essentials
Using a lot of data in China means
your battery will drain quickly!!!
**A portable charger is an absolute must-have among your Beijing travel essentials.**
In China, you can easily rent portable chargers
on the street or in restaurants,
but I ended up renting so much that
it cost me about the same as buying one! ;;;;;;;
I wish I had just brought my own! Haha.
Alipay and WeChat Pay are widely used in China,
so make sure to register your international payment card
before you depart.
Your passport is required for entry to tourist attractions,
so always keep it safe and with you.
Also, prepare a multi-adapter and some essential medications,
lip balm, small tissues, and wet wipes.
Make sure to save your accommodation address and reservation confirmation
on your phone, preferably with the Chinese version displayed!
Wishing you a wonderful trip to Beijing,
and Zàijiàn!
