Wangfujing Culinary Gem in Beijing, China:
Peking Duck at Juqi (局气) in APM Mall
Words & Photos © Hi Couple
When you think of a must-eat dish in Beijing, China,
Peking Duck immediately springs to mind, doesn't it?
So, for this trip with my parents,
I planned to find a delicious Peking Kaoya (Roast Duck)
restaurant near our Wangfujing accommodation!
And that's how we found this incredible culinary spot in Beijing's Wangfujing:
Juqi (juqi), which I'm thrilled to introduce to you today.

Juqi (局气) |
Opening Hours: Daily 11:00 AM - 2:30 PM, 4:30 PM - 9:00 PM Location: 6th Floor, Wangfujing APM Mall |
Most travelers to Beijing choose to stay in the city center,
particularly in Wangfujing.
📍 Juqi is conveniently located on the 6th floor of Wangfujing's APM Mall,
making it perfect for those staying at nearby hotels.
I personally visited because it was so close to our hotel in Wangfujing!

Juqi is a renowned restaurant, especially popular among locals
rather than Korean tourists.
Luckily, we didn't have to wait, but if you come during dinner peak hours,
expect a queue.
Even though we arrived before 6 PM,
most of the tables were already taken!

One of Juqi's highlights is the flaming fried rice
you can see in the picture.
We didn't order it ourselves, but as soon as we entered,
the table next to us was enjoying the "fire show," which was quite a sight!

Instead of a traditional paper menu, they provide a tablet,
allowing you to easily browse and order with pictures,
so ordering shouldn't be a problem!

📍 Here's what we ordered:
Beijing Zhajiangmian: 19 Yuan
Stir-fried Glass Noodles with Cabbage on a Hot Plate: 28 Yuan
Half Peking Kaoya (Roast Duck): 118 Yuan
Pickled Cabbage: 29 Yuan

While waiting for our food after ordering,
we enjoyed watching the flaming fried rice show at other tables.
Soon enough, our dishes started arriving one by one!

Our **Peking Duck, Stir-fried Glass Noodles with Cabbage on a Hot Plate,**
and **Pickled Cabbage** were served first!
They looked so appetizing at first glance, I knew we had made excellent choices.

First up is Juchi's Beijing Kao Ya (Peking Duck)!
Peking Duck comes with pancakes, various vegetables, and, of course, the duck.
The eating method is simple.
Wrap the duck meat and vegetables in a pancake,
then dip it in the special sauce that comes with it, and enjoy!
I recommend trying the crispy skin first, dipped in sugar,
and then wrapping the lean meat in a pancake.

The duck meat was incredibly tender with no gamey smell whatsoever,
making it incredibly satisfying, especially considering the price.
Wrapped in a pancake, it was subtly savory yet,
with the savory umami of the sauce, it was absolutely delicious.

Eating duck naturally made me crave a beer,
so we ordered one too, and it went down so much better!

The pickled cabbage, unlike the fresh kimchi (geotjeori) we eat in Korea,
is a dish served with a peanut sauce base,
so we ordered it like a salad.
It suited our taste buds better than expected,
and the combination with the duck meat was truly excellent!

Next up is the Stir-fried Glass Noodles with Cabbage on a Hot Plate!
I had this before at Dongbukinga and it was incredibly delicious,
so I decided to order it at Juchi as well.
The combination of cabbage and glass noodles in a sweet and savory sauce
always seems to work perfectly.
This dish also goes down even better with beer,
so I highly recommend it!

The last dish we ordered was Beijing Zha Jiang Mian.
Zha Jiang Mian is one of those must-try foods in Beijing,
and since Juchi had it, we decided to order it too.
Beijing Zha Jiang Mian is served with noodles in the bottom bowl,
and the Zha Jiang Mian sauce and various ingredients in the top bowl,
which makes for a fun presentation.

You combine the ingredients you want with the noodles,
then mix in the chunjang sauce and enjoy.
While it looks similar to Korean Jajangmyeon,
the taste is completely different!

Unlike the Korean version, Beijing Zha Jiang Mian is less sweet and more savory and umami-rich.
The noodles had a good thickness and satisfying chewiness,
and it's a dish that surprisingly suits Korean tastes well,
so if you come to Beijing, I hope you try it at least once!
(To be honest, Korean Jajangmyeon tastes better.)
For those who have booked accommodation near Beijing's Wangfujing,
dining at APM will be convenient.
Especially if you want to enjoy Beijing Kao Ya at a great value,
I recommend dining at Juchi, a local favorite!
