If you're gearing up for an exciting free and easy trip to Beijing, China,
one of the first things on your mind will probably be how to get from the airport to the city center.
Well, today I'm thrilled to share three fantastic ways to navigate
from Beijing Capital Airport to the heart of the city, and I'll even walk you through
my own experience taking a DiDi taxi to the city center!
How to Get to the City from Beijing Capital Airport

There are three main ways to get from Beijing Capital Airport to Wangfujing
(the city center).
📍 Airport Express & Subway, DiDi Taxi, Private Pick-up & Drop-off
I'll briefly introduce each one, with details in the table below!
Category | Recommended For | Fare | Travel Time (to Wangfujing) |
Airport Express, Subway | Not Recommended | 28 CNY per person (approx. ~$5) | Approximate 1 hour 30 minutes |
DiDi Taxi | 1-3 people | Approximate 35 CNY (approx. ~$6) | Approximate 40 minutes |
Private Pick-up & Drop-off | 3+ people, family trips | · 5-seater (Sedan) - ~$41 Up to 4 people, 2 x 24-inch suitcases · 7-seater (Van) - ~$53 Up to 4 people, 3 x 24-inch suitcases · 9-seater (MPV) - ~$113 Up to 8 people, 4 x 24-inch suitcases · 15-seater (MPV) - ~$143 Up to 14 people, 4 x 24-inch suitcases | Approximate 40 minutes |

📍 First up is public transportation, which involves taking the
Airport Express and the subway.
The journey, including walking to your accommodation,
will likely take about 1 hour and 30 minutes.
The cost is 28 CNY per person, which is about ~$5.
Compared to other options, this method takes longer and
can be quite tiring, so personally, I wouldn't recommend it.
Even for solo travelers, Chinese taxi fares are quite affordable, so I'd suggest the
second option I'm about to introduce: DiDi Taxi.

📍 Next, let's talk about DiDi Taxi.
Taxi fares in China are quite reasonable, so getting from
the airport to Wangfujing (the city center) will only cost around ~$6 – super affordable!
👉🏻 That's why I highly recommend DiDi Taxi
for travelers in groups of 1 to 3.
However, if it's your first time in China,
you might find using DiDi a bit challenging.
(Don't worry, I'll cover how to use DiDi Taxi below!)

📍 Finally, if you're traveling with a larger group,
I highly recommend a private airport pick-up and drop-off service.
👉🏻 This is especially perfect for families traveling with children or elderly parents
– I can't recommend it enough!
Navigating an unfamiliar country, trying to hail taxis,
and keeping track of your family can be quite a juggle.
By booking a pick-up and drop-off service, you'll enjoy a much more comfortable and stress-free journey,
and you won't have the hassle of calling multiple taxis for a large group.
❗️ Plus, some Chinese taxi drivers do smoke inside their cars, so if you're traveling with kids,
I strongly advise booking a cleaner private vehicle for pick-up.
You can find Beijing airport pick-up service bookings below.

My DiDi Taxi Experience from Capital Airport
Next, I'll walk you through how to catch a DiDi taxi
from Beijing Capital Airport.

After you clear immigration at the airport,
you'll find a large sign for E-hailing 网约车 (web-hailed cars).
To get to the DiDi pickup point,
just follow the E-hailing signs.

You'll need to walk for at least 5 minutes,
but the signs are clear, so just keep following them.
From the arrivals hall, take the escalator down
and head underground.

Then you'll arrive at the parking area,
which also serves as the DiDi pickup point.

DiDi taxis are usually easy to find quickly,
so I recommend using the DiDi function within Alipay
to hail one after you arrive at the pickup point.
Confirm your pickup location and
enter your destination.
💡 Here's a pro tip: take a photo of the location marker on the pickup point pillar,
like West 11 (西11), and send it to your driver via chat.
This will help you get picked up much faster!
Plus, with the 'frequently used phrases' feature,
you can send automated messages even if you don't speak Chinese,
making communication much easier.

I sent the driver a photo indicating I was at West 11,
and they arrived within 5 minutes,
allowing me to get in right away.
❗️ Just a heads-up: in China, when you get into a taxi,
you need to tell the driver the last four digits of your phone number.
You can try to memorize these numbers in Chinese,
or simply show the numbers on your phone after you get in,
and they'll be able to verify it!

The taxi I took had a faint smell of cigarette smoke,
but it wasn't strong enough to be unbearable, so it was fine.

On a weekend afternoon, the ride to Wangfujing city center took about 40 minutes,
and the fare was 35.29 yuan, which was approximately ~$6.
It's a really affordable and convenient way to get around, isn't it?
So, I hope you find the three methods I introduced helpful
for a comfortable trip to Beijing!
