Angsana Zhuhai Phoenix Bay Review: Private Beach Bliss
Escape to Angsana Zhuhai Phoenix Bay, a stunning oceanfront hotel with a private beach. Experience luxury accommodations and incredible value near Macau.

During my trip to Zhuhai, China, I discovered an absolutely amazing hotel with incredible ocean views that connects directly to a private beach.
Let me tell you all about it!
Located right next to Macau, the weather here is wonderfully warm (think semi-tropical!), the area is spotless, and the ocean views are simply stunning.
But here's the best part: because Zhuhai has mainland Chinese prices,
the overall cost of living – including hotels – is so much more affordable than in Hong Kong or Macau!!
To stay at a hotel like this in Macau, even during the off-season, you'd probably have to pay around ~$438,
but I managed to stay here for around ~$146-~$219!
The breakfast was absolutely delicious, and the pool is both beautiful and spacious.
Plus, the hotel is just a 5-minute walk from the private beach right out front – perfect for a quick stroll or a dip!

I think it was Day 3 of my Zhuhai, China trip when I finally arrived at a 'proper' hotel.
((Note: There's both the Angsana Zhuhai Phoenix Bay Hotel AND the Angsana 'Hengqin' Zhuhai Hotel in Zhuhai, so make sure you distinguish between them!)))
It was absolutely wonderful...
Even though the weather was a bit cloudy that day, the scenery was still magnificent.

A standard 'Sea View Double Room' typically costs around ~$146-~$161 (during the off-season),
but it seems to go up to ~$438 in peak season.
It appears winter is the peak season.
October, when I visited, wasn't peak season, so a standard room was in the mid-~$180s.
The main reason I chose Angsana Zhuhai was the direct access to the outdoor pool,
so I opted for a 'Canal Pool Room - Twin' type, which is located on the ground floor.
I paid around ~$277? It was in the high ~$280s.
Personally, I think the rooms on the ground floor are fantastic.

Other ground floor rooms at Angsana Zhuhai Hotel offer direct access to the outdoor swimming pool like this.
There are room types where you can step straight into the pool water, and also room types with a private pool in the room.
If it were the middle of summer, a room with direct access to the outdoor pool would probably be even better,
but in late October, it was a bit too chilly to jump right into the outdoor pool.
The pool is quite long, so I shivered a bit as I swam a lap around the hotel...
But anyway, the pool is beautiful, spacious, and lovely.
Or maybe it would be fine on a warmer, sunnier day?
On the day I visited, it was quite cloudy,
making it a bit chilly to really dive into the hotel's outdoor pool.

When you arrive at Angsana Zhuhai Hotel by car, you're on the 5th floor,
and that's where you check in.
The ocean view you see while checking in is insane...
At night, if you head down there, an ocean-view bar is waiting for you right away.

There were two reasons I chose Angsana Zhuhai Phoenix Bay Hotel:
First, being able to go straight out to the ocean and the pool,
and second, the bar was absolutely beautiful.
Both reasons turned out to be incredibly satisfying!

When you get off the taxi here, they'll carry your luggage and guide you to the check-in area.
Angsana Zhuhai Phoenix Bay Hotel is a 5-star hotel part of the Banyan Tree group.
Not all the staff speak perfect English... but there are some who do.
Still, it's no big deal. We've got translation apps, right?

But I can't help but wonder if it has a slightly Japanese feel to it.
Is it just my imagination?
It doesn't really matter, though.
Overall, it beautifully captures the vibe of dark stone harmonizing with the ocean.
Angsana Zhuhai Hotel has guest rooms from the 1st to 4th floors,
check-in is on the 5th floor, and the outdoor pool is on the 1st floor.
The hotel's outdoor bar, called 'Shadow Bar', is also located on the 1st floor.

Even though it was a weekday when I visited, there was a wedding happening...
Of course, it didn't bother me much.
My room directly overlooked the wedding,
but it wasn't particularly loud,
it wasn't an all-day affair, and there weren't tons of guests.
So, I wasn't too bothered by it.
If anything, there was just a little excitement about watching a Chinese wedding!
However, if the sun had been blazing and the weather perfect, and I'd planned to swim during the day,
I might have been a bit worried about my swimming scene appearing in someone else's wedding photos, and if that would be a bit of a nuisance?
But since the outdoor pool is pretty spacious anyway, if I just passed by quickly,
no one would probably care, so it'd be fine.

The long-awaited Angsana Zhuhai Phoenix Bay Hotel Room & Balcony View!
Zhuhai, located right next to Macau... With hotel prices much more affordable than Macau,
you can find a seriously amazing hotel like this for just ~$146-~$219!
During the day, it was as if everyone was out exploring, as I hardly ran into anyone.
Zhuhai's weather felt subtropical and warm, which is why you see palm trees growing so vigorously.

At Angsana Zhuhai Hotel, a canal-like pool flows right past my room!
I thought about having a beer on my balcony at night,
but in reality, the hotel bar's view was so good that I just drank there,
and didn't have time to drink on the balcony...

The bathroom is also incredibly luxurious!
It's so convenient because the shower room and the toilet are separated.

When you open the shower door, you're greeted by a mirror and a bathtub,
and the bathroom space with the mirror and tub is super spacious!
Of course, this is a hotel... so you can close the swinging door between this area and the bedroom!!!

Here's the toilet room and wardrobe you find right after entering.
This is what the toilet room at Angsana Zhuhai Hotel looks like...
There are even towels neatly prepared to dry your hands.

The interior of Angsana Zhuhai Phoenix Bay Hotel is actually much better than what you see in photos, even on their website or here.
In person, it's far cleaner, more luxurious, and more spacious.
The interior is quite expansive.
That sofa, in particular, is incredibly comfortable!

There's even a table for planning your Zhuhai itinerary.
And below the table,

this candle! The scent was absolutely, truly, incredibly lovely—I fell in love with it the moment I walked in.
I heard it's the same scent used at the Angsana Zhuhai Hotel spa...
They said it's placed there to deter insects, as this area is right by the sea and has a warm climate.
But the scent was so genuinely wonderful that
I originally planned to buy one of those candles at the hotel before heading to Guangzhou, but
I got too busy and forgot!
It was the Tuesday scent, apparently ㅠㅠㅠ
There were no mosquitoes or other bothersome insects.

The pouch provided inside the Angsana Zhuhai Hotel is just too adorable!
The bathtub in the hotel is quite spacious, and next to it,
there are lots of things available so you can even enjoy a relaxing half-bath with bath salts.
There are many things.
I really wanted to try it, but I didn't have time because I was too busy exploring!

Spotless.
Shanghai had an abundance of flowers, but
I don't recall seeing quite as many flowers here in Zhuhai.
Instead, there are plants like these.
Grow strong and tall!
Or perhaps there aren't many flowers to avoid attracting insects?

It's a hotel in China, so why is there clothing resembling a kimono...!
I'm not sure.
But it's thin and light, perfect for slipping on after a swim.

On the right, you'll find the mini-fridge. While hotels in Shanghai often spoiled me with complimentary breakfast, snacks, and drinks inside,
here, those come with a cost.
But here's a pleasant surprise: the drinks and snacks were incredibly affordable, almost like convenience store prices.
Since there aren't any convenience stores or restaurants in the immediate vicinity,
your options are to dine in, order delivery, or hop in a taxi to explore outside.
When it comes to delivery, there's a handy designated area on the reception floor where your orders are safely kept.
You can pick them up from there, or if you prefer, just wait for a bit and they'll get to you.
Seriously, in China, it feels like *anything* and *everything* can be delivered straight to your door!

Oh, and a little bonus: bottled water is complimentary!

The Angsana Zhuhai Hotel's array of snacks and drinks – I didn't even lay a finger on them since they weren't complimentary!
The tempting spread...
To be honest, I was so busy exploring I barely had time to eat them anyway!

Stepping outside, you'll discover the Angsana Zhuhai Hotel's incredible
outdoor pool, winding gracefully like a tranquil canal.
And guess what? The breakfast spot is right along the pool, too!
For breakfast, you can absolutely snag one of those fantastic outdoor seats if you ask! It's about ~$28 per person.
I highly recommend indulging in it!
You can easily settle the payment at the hotel itself.
Directly accessible from the Angsana Zhuhai Hotel is its very own
stunning private beach.
Complete with comfy bean bags and swings,
and a vibrant beach bar just steps away.

The Angsana Zhuhai Hotel's outdoor swimming pool truly stretches far and wide,
and along its magnificent length, the surrounding landscaping and spaces are beautifully designed and incredibly expansive!
From spring through autumn, I actually think rooms *without* direct pool access might be even better, giving you a bit more privacy!
And oh, the resident cat roaming around the property was absolutely adorable!
A total sweetheart! 😻
It seemed to be a friendly feline that just wandered in and out as it pleased.
So much love for this little wanderer!

Whether you're returning from the beach or feeling peckish after a swim, you can easily just
head right back into the hotel.

You'll find the breakfast buffet ready for you on the first floor.
And as you'd expect from subtropical Zhuhai, China, there was an incredible abundance of fresh fruit!
I focused on grabbing dragon fruit and guava, fruits I rarely get to enjoy back in Korea,
but honestly, the guava wasn't quite my cup of tea... It tasted like a strange mix of jujube, apple, and maybe even flowers? Not my favorite!

With such a fantastic array of ingredients, you can pick and choose exactly what you want,
hand them over to the chef, and watch as they work their magic, creating a delicious broth right before your eyes,
to craft the most incredibly flavorful noodles!
This is an absolute must-try at the Angsana Zhuhai Hotel breakfast buffet!
Just a tip though: don't get too carried away with the noodle portions, or you might not have room for all the other delicious dishes!
So, make sure to moderate your noodle intake! 😉

The hotel breakfast buffet also featured dim sum,
but sadly, I only spotted it as I was leaving, so I missed out! 😭
It's funny, but as a foreigner, I exclusively ate Chinese food!
I even brought my Chinese male friend along for breakfast, but he only ate salad and some bread.
After breakfast, we quickly headed out to the beach, and my Chinese male friend took photos of me.
Take many photos!
There's a cute bird, too...

It's a bit unfair, but...
The day I first arrived at Angsana Zhuhai Hotel, it was cloudy the whole time,
and now that I'm about to check out and leave, the sun has started to shine.

At Angsana Zhuhai Hotel, next to the elevators, there was a fancy ammonite-shaped ceramic piece and
some soil, so I thought, 'What's this? How cool!'
But it turned out to be an ashtray, telling people not to litter cigarette butts on the floor but to put them here, haha!
Oh, and of course, there was absolutely no cigarette smell in the room.
Not even in the hallway.

I originally had such grand plans, but
I ended up coming back late and eating dinner with drinks at the hotel bar.
I only managed to stick to one part of my plan.
If you want to take that amazing boat ride from the sea that crosses the border to Macau or Hong Kong and back,
you need to go a bit
early.
I went after 6 PM, and it had already closed a long time ago.
I recommend arriving around 4:30 PM.
And traffic can get a bit congested in the evening!

Oh, right, this is...
the Angsana Zhuhai Hotel welcome fruit.
🍊
They gave us small tangerines.
They were quite sweet and delicious. Since I had some left and didn't want to waste them, I took them with me and ate them on the way to Guangzhou airport.

The long-awaited Chinese wedding!
It was surprisingly subdued... I expected drones and a million fireworks, but
it was quiet and the dress was modest, so I was a little disappointed, I guess?
Check out the prices ⤵️
The slippers in the hotel room were very thick and nice.
I wanted to take them home, but I was rushed for checkout and left them all behind.

The Bluetooth speaker was also great.
It's one of those round JBL speakers with a clock function that you often find in hotels.
It broke down halfway through ㅠ -ㅠ, but a staff member brought me a replacement...

Angsana Zhuhai Hotel Lobby Bar
You absolutely have to visit at night!
Because the ocean stretches out right before you!
🥺🖤🖤🖤🖤
Since it's open until 1 AM,
you really need to make time to come and enjoy it.

Sipping a drink at the Angsana Zhuhai Hotel bar –
Was it a Sidecar? Cocktail.
My friend Jungnam was busily
tidying up the table, and then
took some absolutely amazing photos for me!!!

Even without asking,
they just knew exactly what to do and snapped away.
They took so many fantastic photos, in various poses and locations, all on their own.
If I struck a weird pose, they'd interject,
"Hmm... that looks a bit strange,"
and tell me to try something different.

Oh, right!
For selfies, close the door between the bed and the bathroom
and you'll get even better shots.
The outdoor pool was so cold that I only swam for about 10 minutes, but
you definitely should go on a warmer day.
It's also great to take a photo on the beach wearing a really elegant dress.
Everyone was taking photos like that in the morning.
What would I have done if I hadn't packed my green dress?
Anyway, I highly recommend it!
Deep winter is probably peak season, so prices might be higher,
but if you avoid deep winter,
you can enjoy warm weather near Macau,
and experience a truly luxurious ocean view hotel
for an affordable price.
So, super highly recommended!
