Andong Punggyeong Hostel Review 2026: Family Room & Cafe
Looking for the perfect group stay in Andong? Here's why Punggyeong Hostel's Family Room beats hotels and Hanok stays for space, comfort, and value.
When planning my recent trip to Andong, South Korea, finding the right accommodation was my biggest hurdle. Initially, I considered booking a standard hotel, but traveling with a group of four meant that room size and costs quickly added up.
Since we planned to catch an early train the next morning, staying within walking distance of Andong Station was a top priority.

To make the best choice, I compared three options:
Hotels near Hahoe Folk Village
Traditional Hanok Stays
Local Guesthouses
Ultimately, I booked the Family Room at Andong Punggyeong Hostel. Here is a breakdown of my decision process and an honest review of my stay!
Chapter 01.
Choosing Where to Stay in Andong
Your ideal Andong accommodation depends heavily on your itinerary. Are you staying strictly within Andong, or planning day trips to nearby cities like Mungyeong or Gimcheon? Since we planned to explore the wider Gyeongsangbuk-do region, mobility was key.
Plus, summer in Korea can easily reach 90°F with high humidity—walking long distances with luggage is a recipe for exhaustion. A walkable location was non-negotiable!
Accommodation Type | Pros | Cons | Best For |
Hotel | Clean facilities, high privacy, great amenities | Expensive for families or groups | Couples, staycationers |
Hanok Stay | Authentic Andong atmosphere, highly aesthetic | Comfort levels can vary widely | Travelers seeking cultural immersion |
Guesthouse (Family Room) | Budget-friendly, spacious enough for groups | May require using shared communal spaces | Families, budget-conscious groups |
While a Hanok stay was tempting, we ultimately prioritized a space that offered great value and enough room to comfortably open four suitcases.

Why I Chose Punggyeong Hostel
Price and location were my main deciding factors. I constantly asked myself: "Is this just a place to sleep?" and "Does the location make sense for our travel route?"
Hotels definitely have their perks. The ones near Hahoe Folk Village are spotless and very comfortable.
However, finding a well-reviewed Family Room that comfortably fit a group of friends led me straight to Andong Punggyeong Hostel & Library.
Prices fluctuate depending on the season, but NOL consistently offered the best rates for our dates.

I actually stayed here during my first trip to Andong a few years ago. I remembered it being spacious and impeccably clean. Knowing this hostel has been successfully operating for over a decade gave me the confidence to book it again for our 2026 trip.
Just a 15-Minute Walk from Andong Station
Being only about a 15-minute walk (roughly 0.7 miles) from Andong Station makes this location unbeatable for travelers relying on public transit.

Check-In & First Impressions
Check-in: 3:00 PM / Check-out: 11:00 AM
Parking Available
Due to our packed itinerary, we arrived around 9:00 PM. The owner welcomed us warmly, quickly processed our check-in, and gave us a tour of the facilities.
The first floor operates as a charming book cafe. It's open to the public during the day, making it a fantastic spot to grab a coffee and catch up on some remote work or journaling.
One new addition since my last visit is the dedicated Cat Room! While there's usually an entry fee, you can score a free pass by leaving a quick review online.
Cat Room Hours: 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM
I've recently become obsessed with cute animals, so seeing some familiar furry faces from my last trip was a delightful bonus.
After getting our fill of cat cuddles, we headed up to our Special Family Room on the second floor.
Chapter 04.
Inside the Family Room
Just as I remembered, the Family Room perfectly captures a cozy, modern Hanok aesthetic. It features two plush double beds, and the toilet and shower are in separate rooms—a massive time-saver when four people are getting ready in the morning!
I'm quite picky about bedding since it dictates how I feel the next day, but the sheets here were crisp, clean, and incredibly comfortable.
Hygiene is often a concern with guesthouses, but the bathrooms and showers here are spotless.
One important update: Due to new eco-friendly policies in Korea, disposable amenities like toothbrushes, toothpaste, and razors are no longer free. Be sure to pack your own, or you can purchase them at the front desk.
The room even came equipped with a body dryer—a fantastic luxury that speeds up the post-shower routine for groups.
To summarize, here are the biggest perks of Andong Punggyeong Hostel:
- Space: Perfect layout for families and friend groups.
- Value: Much more affordable than booking multiple hotel rooms.
- Atmosphere: Quiet and relaxing, ensuring a peaceful night's sleep.
Even if you don't book the Family Room, the hallway features convenient shared amenities like a microwave and a water purifier. The cozy communal spaces make it easy to mingle with fellow travelers if you're feeling social.
Of course, no place is perfect. If you are expecting full-service hotel luxury, you might need to adjust your expectations.
Because it operates as a guesthouse, it doesn't offer the exact same environment as a 4-star hotel. If daily housekeeping, room service, or extreme privacy are non-negotiable for you, a traditional hotel might be a better fit.
Chapter 05.
Complimentary Breakfast
Breakfast is served daily from 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM in the first-floor book cafe. It's completely free for guests, making it a great way to fuel up before a day of sightseeing.
The spread includes toast, fresh salad, boiled eggs, cereal, and hot coffee. It's simple but surprisingly satisfying. Enjoying a light, tasty breakfast while looking out at the beautiful morning weather is one of my favorite memories from the trip.
After comparing hotels, Hanok stays, and guesthouses, the Punggyeong Hostel Family Room was undeniably the best choice for our group.
If you're planning a trip to Andong with family or friends, don't just look at the price tag. Consider the room size, amenities, and how easily you can get around. For us, this spot checked every single box!
