Visiting Andong? Discover Chammasonguksu Myeongga, a hidden gem serving delicious wild yam noodles, Mukbap, and an unlimited self-service bar. A must-try for authentic Korean flavors.

Whenever my family and I visit Andong, a city rich in history and culture, we often stay at the scenic Andong Lake Riverside Natural Recreation Forest, especially when the whole extended family gathers. On our way there, there's one restaurant we always make sure to stop at: Andong Chammasonguksu Myeongga. It's truly a hidden gem in Andong, offering fantastic value without compromising on flavor. I'm excited to share my experience enjoying their delicious Chammanengkongguksu (Wild Yam Cold Bean Noodles), Mukbap (Acorn Jelly Soup), and their incredibly generous self-service bar!

Andong Chammasonguksu Myeongga Exterior

The restaurant's exterior is subtly set back from the main road, slightly elevated, making it a peaceful spot. Best of all, there's a spacious parking lot right out front, so finding a spot is incredibly easy – a huge plus when you're traveling!
Andong Chammasonguksu Myeongga: Inside Ambiance

Stepping inside, you're greeted by a cozy and inviting atmosphere, with warm wooden tables and chairs creating a comfortable setting. The walls are adorned with menus and mouth-watering photos of their dishes – just looking at them made my stomach rumble! They offer a wide array of classic Korean dishes, from Kongguksu (cold soybean noodles) and Naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles) to Bibimbap (mixed rice with vegetables) and Kalguksu (knife-cut noodles).

Adding to its charm, photos from their appearance on the popular KBS show 'Saengsaengjeongbo' grace the walls, lending even more credibility to their culinary prowess. I even heard recently that trot singer Jinseong, a well-known Korean celebrity, has paid a visit – talk about a local favorite!
Andong Chammasonguksu Myeongga: Diverse Menu

Perusing the menu displayed on the wall, I was impressed by the variety of dishes featuring 'Cham-ma' (wild yam). Options like Wild Yam Black Bean Perilla Seed Soup, Wild Yam Perilla Seed Noodles, Wild Yam Noodles, and Wild Yam Acorn Jelly Soup all looked incredibly tempting. After much deliberation, I settled on my absolute favorite, the Chammanengkongguksu (Wild Yam Cold Bean Noodles). At just ~$6, it was an absolute steal for such a delicious and hearty meal!
Self-Service Bar: Unlimited Rice and Side Dishes

Another fantastic aspect of Andong Chammasonguksu Myeongga is their incredible self-service bar. Tucked away in a corner of the neatly organized kitchen, you'll find an array of freshly cooked rice and various side dishes. The fact that both rice and banchan (side dishes) are unlimited refills is truly a game-changer – talk about getting your money's worth!
A Diverse Self-Service Bar

The self-service bar was a feast for the eyes, boasting a diverse selection of banchan, including kimchi, various seasoned vegetables (namul), and braised dishes (jorim). Everything was meticulously arranged in stainless steel containers, which immediately conveyed a sense of cleanliness and hygiene. Tongs and ladles were readily available for serving, along with plates of different sizes, making it super convenient to customize your meal. They even had Jeyuk-bokkeum (spicy stir-fried pork) and Pajeon (green onion pancake) – though the kids loved them so much, they were quickly gone!
Refreshing Makguksu

My child opted for the Makguksu (buckwheat noodles), and it was a visual delight! The buckwheat noodles were generously topped with shredded seaweed, sesame seeds, pear, cucumber, lettuce, and a perfectly boiled egg. The broth, with its floating ice shards, looked incredibly refreshing. My little one took a bite and exclaimed, "This is so delicious!" – a clear sign of a winner!
Sweet and Tangy Mukbap

I'm a huge fan of Mukbap, and this restaurant's version was absolutely delightful! The thinly sliced acorn jelly (muk) was beautifully garnished with cucumber, egg strips, shredded seaweed, kimchi, and sesame seeds – a feast for both the eyes and the palate. The clear, brownish broth was perfectly sweet and tangy, making it an ideal choice for a refreshing meal, especially on a warm summer day when your appetite might be lagging.
Creamy Kongguksu

When you visit Andong Chammasonguksu Myeongga, one dish you absolutely *must* try is their Kongguksu (cold soybean noodles). It features a generous portion of noodles swimming in a thick, creamy soybean broth, topped with fresh cucumber, carrots, and a sprinkle of sesame seeds. It's truly a rich and satisfying experience!
Chewy Kongguksu Noodles

The Kongguksu noodles themselves are thin and white, with an incredibly satisfying chewy texture. The moment you lift the noodles with your chopsticks, the rich soybean broth clings perfectly to them, enhancing every single bite.

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal, with a large tray filled with our main dishes and the fresh side dishes we chose from the self-service bar.
Andong Chammasonguksu Myeongga truly lives up to its reputation as a fantastic value-for-money restaurant, which is why it's our go-to spot every time we visit Andong. The generous self-service bar, the impeccably prepared side dishes, and the diverse menu featuring wild yam ensured that our entire family had a completely satisfying meal.
The refreshing Chammanengkongguksu and the tangy Mukbap were particular highlights – absolute must-tries! If you're looking for an authentic, delicious, and budget-friendly dining experience in Andong, I wholeheartedly recommend adding Andong Chammasonguksu Myeongga to your itinerary.
