Just a short journey away, it offers the most spectacular panoramic views you'll find.
After spending time meandering through the historical streets of Andong's Hahoe Folk Village,
I made my way to the Buyongdae Observation Deck, and I'm so excited to tell you all about it!
While strolling through the village itself was incredibly charming,
the panoramic vista of Hahoe from Buyongdae Cliff truly left a lasting impression on me.
Did you know that 'Buyongdae' translates to
'a hill overlooking a lotus'?
It's said that Hahoe Folk Village, encircled by the meandering Nakdong River,
resembles a lotus flower floating on water. Understanding this origin story
made the view from Buyongdae even more magical and meaningful.
It offers a completely different charm from the tranquil, historic ambiance you experience
within Hahoe Village itself – here, it's all about the wide-open, refreshing vistas!
You can park your car at the Hwacheonseowon Confucian Academy parking lot.
From there, it's just a short 5-10 minute uphill walk
to reach the viewpoint.
While there is a slight incline, the path is quite short, making it an easy and enjoyable trek
for families traveling with children or older parents.
If you're coming directly from Hahoe Folk Village, it's only about a 7-minute drive by car.
Standing atop Buyongdae Cliff,
you're greeted with an unobstructed view of the Nakdong River gracefully winding its way
around the entire Andong Hahoe Folk Village.
It's fascinating – when you're walking through the village, you don't quite grasp its full layout,
but from this elevated perspective, it feels like you're looking down on a perfectly preserved miniature world.
During my visit, preparations were in full swing for the Hahoe Seonyu Julbul Nori (Hahoe Village String Fire Play) festival,
so I even got to see people gathering along the riverbanks, adding to the vibrant scene.
It's an excellent spot to truly grasp the unique topography of Hahoe Folk Village,
and with its wide-open vista, it's also a fantastic place to clear your head and soak in some truly inspiring scenery.
As I mentioned, Buyongdae Cliff is only about a 7-minute drive from Hahoe Folk Village.
Given its close proximity,
if you're visiting Hahoe, you absolutely must bundle Buyongdae into your itinerary!
If you include Byeongsanseowon Confucian Academy, which I've introduced before,
you'll have a perfectly packed day trip to truly soak in the authentic spirit of Andong.
While my route isn't the only way to explore,
it's a fantastic option for those looking to maximize their time near Hahoe Folk Village and enjoy diverse landscapes.
To visit Buyongdae Cliff, you can park your car at Hwacheon Seowon parking lot. From the parking lot, it's about a 5-10 minute walk uphill to reach Buyongdae Cliff.
It takes approximately 7 minutes by car to get from Hahoe Folk Village to Buyongdae Cliff. Since the distance is very short, it's a great course to visit together when you tour Hahoe Folk Village.
