If I had to pick my absolute favorite Japanese snack, I wouldn't hesitate to choose Alfort mini chocolates. They're simply irresistible!

Today, in 2026, I'm excited to share my taste test and review of several delicious Alfort flavors.

First up is the classic, widely available flavor, often described as 'Deep Taste of Wheat and Milk'. This variety features a biscuit base, similar to a digestive cookie, topped with rich milk chocolate. If you're familiar with popular chocolate-covered biscuits, you'll know exactly what to expect!

The original flavor is pure milk chocolate bliss, offering an intense sweetness that's truly satisfying. It’s definitely one of my personal favorites. In some international markets, a pack might retail for around ~$2, but when you're in Japan, you can often snag them for as little as ~$1. That's why I always stock up when I visit!

Next, we have the Salted Vanilla flavor. I hadn't seen this one outside of Japan before, so I grabbed it without a second thought!

The packaging for the Matcha flavor felt the most luxurious out of all the varieties I tried, truly reflecting its elegant name.

This was a genuinely rich matcha chocolate. It delivered both a distinct matcha flavor and a strong sweetness. If you're a fan of both matcha and sweet treats, this is an absolute must-buy snack!

Original > Matcha > Vanilla = Salted Vanilla > Strawberry
