One thing I always make sure to do when I'm exploring Japan is hit up a local supermarket.
While I definitely pop into drugstores and liquor stores, the reason I still seek out supermarkets is that you can find a wider variety of groceries and everyday essentials, often at much better prices!
After a slightly less-than-satisfying experience at the Kuromon Market supermarket last time, I was on the hunt for another spot and stumbled upon this gem near my accommodation:
Aeon Food Style!

Hours: Open 24 Hours
The nearest station is Nagahoribashi Station, just a 3-minute walk away.
You'll also find the famous local restaurant, TsuruTonTan, nearby.
As soon as you enter the first floor, the fresh food section immediately catches your eye.
It's always interesting to browse around and compare prices to what you'd find back home!
If you're staying at an Airbnb or any accommodation with cooking facilities,
I highly recommend buying some meat to grill yourself.
It's significantly cheaper than eating out at a restaurant!
In the dairy section, I also found Sakelu cheese.
Recently, on social media, there's been a huge buzz about how delicious
Sakelu string cheese is, so I bought some.
If I'm being frank, it didn't quite live up to the hype for me!
Chilled dairy products are not eligible for tax exemption, so keep that in mind!
The beer selection is diverse and the prices are great,
so I bought three packs and got a tax refund.
It's much cheaper than convenience stores, and you can even get tax-free shopping,
so for drinks like beer, buying at the supermarket is definitely the way to go!
There's even a separate section just for Sawa and Horoyoi!
They're cheaper than convenience stores, so even if you don't get a tax refund,
they're perfect for picking up drinks to enjoy back at your accommodation.
While there were brands like Jim Beam and Suntory, they mainly stocked the more affordable lines,
and the prices weren't particularly appealing.
For those looking for whiskey or premium brands,
I'd recommend visiting a dedicated liquor store instead.
I'm someone who drinks a lot of water,
so I grabbed a few large bottles for my accommodation.
When traveling in Japan, supermarkets are definitely the cheapest place to buy bottled water.
In the prepared food section, you'll find everything from Donkatsu (pork cutlets) to Yakitori (grilled skewers).
It's perfect for a quick and easy meal back at your accommodation!
The bento box section had a fantastic variety of options.

The quality of the tuna sushi was absolutely incredible!
For supermarket sushi, this quality is truly amazing.
Just a heads-up: bento boxes and sushi rarely go on sale, and
they're usually gone after 7 PM, so plan accordingly!
You'll find an incredible selection of Haagen-Dazs flavors here too!
They have flavors I've never seen in Korea, and the prices are so good that
I always make sure to grab one (or a few!) whenever I visit Japan 🍦.
The general groceries and miscellaneous goods sections continue upstairs on the 2nd floor.
Meet shio kombu, one of my absolute favorites!
It's fantastic sprinkled on cabbage steak,
or as an ingredient for delicious rice balls,
which is why I always stock up on it whenever I'm in Japan.
The one on the left is low-salt, and the one on the right is the regular kind.
Gaban pepper is another must-have item I always pick up when I'm in Japan.
I used to only buy black pepper, but this time I decided to try white pepper as well,
and I love its lighter, more subtle flavor compared to black pepper.
It's been incredibly useful in my cooking!
I've been missing the delicious Daichi no Udon I had in Fukuoka, so I picked up some udon soup.
It wasn't the exact brand I was searching for,
but a friendly staff member recommended a similar product, and I went for it!
This Neapolitan sauce is another staple I buy 3-4 jars of every time I visit Japan.
Just add ham and stir-fry, and you'll have a delightful Neapolitan pasta in no time!
Craving some soup curry, I also grabbed some curry powder.
I haven't had a chance to cook with it yet,
but I'll definitely whip it up soon and share my review!
You'll also find a fantastic variety of shampoos, treatments, and other hair care products.
The prices here tend to be lower than Don Quijote,
so if you're planning to stock up on Japanese hair care, this is a great spot to compare prices!
Payment & Tax Exemption
You'll complete your payment on the 1st floor first.
For tax exemption, it's crucial to inform them you'd like it *before* they start scanning your items.
Once the staff has scanned all your items,
they'll direct you to the appropriate self-checkout counter for payment.
I paid by card, and after payment, you'll take your purchases and receipt
and head up to the 2nd floor for your tax refund.
Please note that tax exemption processing is available only between
2 PM and 7 PM.
Make sure to double-check these hours before your visit!
I received my refund in cash,
and I was really happy with how carefully they packaged my tax-exempt purchases 😊.
They even have an Aeon ATM,
so if you need to withdraw cash from your travel wallet, you can easily do it here.
The staff were super friendly,
and the quality of the ready-to-eat food was excellent,
making it perfect for a simple meal or some snacks back at your hotel.
