Osaka's Legendary Takoyaki in Dotonbori:
Finally Visiting Acchichi Honpo
It was the morning of our last day in Osaka, and the trip was flying by! We planned a relaxed final day, simply soaking in the sights of Dotonbori and doing a bit of last-minute souvenir shopping.

When you think of Dotonbori, those iconic, dynamic signboards immediately come to mind. We spotted the famous Kinryu Ramen sign, a true landmark.

Even a Kushikatsu restaurant, which I believe was Daruma, had a statue perched on its rooftop! It was such a fun sight, I had to snap a picture.

We continued our stroll through a quieter Dotonbori morning, taking photos with the famous Glico Man sign, soaking in the unique atmosphere.

Every time I'd visited Dotonbori before, I'd seen an incredibly long line snaking out from this takoyaki spot. The queue was always so daunting that I'd never even attempted to try it. But this morning, with no line in sight, I knew it was finally my chance!

The sign above the shop literally spelled out 'Takoyaki' with charming illustrations. Below, it proudly declared in Kansai-ben, the Osaka dialect, that their takoyaki was 'seriously delicious!'

For those familiar with Korean celebrity culture, you might know that Kangnam (a popular TV personality) once filmed a YouTube video here, working a 'one-day part-time' shift at Acchichi Honpo Dotonbori. Even Olympic speed skater Lee Sang-hwa visited during that time! Beyond Korean stars, it seems many famous Japanese celebrities have graced this spot too. I even saw photos of NMB48 members enjoying takoyaki here – a name even many international visitors might recognize.

Menu
A single serving of takoyaki costs 600 JPY (approximately ~$4).
A beer set is 1,000 JPY (approximately ~$7), and a soft drink set is 700 JPY (approximately ~$5).
Seeing melon soda on the menu, I opted for the soft drink set.

Watching the takoyaki sizzle and turn golden brown on the hot griddle, their robust size was definitely tempting.

Given the sheer number of international visitors, it's no surprise they have their menu translated into five different languages.

There were even international staff members, and it was impressive to see them churning out takoyaki almost like a well-oiled factory. It seems to be the norm for any popular eatery here!

After placing my order, I stepped aside to observe the surroundings. There's a small area under the large menu board where you can quickly enjoy your food, and a charming octopus mascot adorns the top of the shop.

Soon after, my 700 JPY (approximately ~$5) set arrived! For takoyaki paired with a refreshing melon soda, that's a pretty good deal, wouldn't you say?

The takoyaki came served with a unique side of pickled ginger, generously topped with mayonnaise and green onions.

It had that perfectly soft, melt-in-your-mouth texture of traditional Osaka takoyaki. The octopus pieces inside were substantial, making the 700 JPY (approximately ~$5) set feel like a satisfying light meal on its own.
Overall Verdict
Living up to its fame, this is truly a delicious takoyaki spot.
It's fantastic to visit in the morning when it's less crowded, but honestly, there are many other takoyaki places in Osaka that offer a similar level of taste.
So, I probably wouldn't recommend waiting in a super long line for it.
However, if you can snag a spot with a wait time of 10 minutes or less, I highly recommend giving Acchichi Honpo a try!
Acchichi Honpo Dotonbori Main Store is open from 9 AM to midnight (24:00). There are no specific closing days.
A single serving of takoyaki is ~$4. The beer set is ~$6, and the soft drink set, which includes beverages like melon soda, is ~$4.
Acchichi Honpo's takoyaki is made in the traditional Osaka style, cooked until soft and gooey. It comes with generous portions of plump octopus, pickled ginger, mayonnaise, and green onions.
Famous Korean and Japanese celebrities, including Kangnam, speed skater Lee Sang-hwa, and members of NMB48, have visited. For foreign customers, there are menus translated into 5 languages and international staff available.
