Budapest 4-Day Itinerary: Thermal Baths & Night Views
Budapest, the "Pearl of the Danube," is a city that effortlessly blends rich history, stunning architecture, and a vibrant local culture. If you are planning a 4-night, 6-day getaway, here is a tried-and-tested itinerary designed to help you experience the best of Budapest, from its famous thermal baths to charming nearby villages.
Day 1: Recharging at Lukács Baths & Iconic Night Views
After a long flight, there is no better way to shake off the jet lag than soaking in one of Budapest's authentic thermal springs. While Széchenyi and Gellért get all the hype, Lukács Baths offers a much more local, laid-back atmosphere. It is the perfect spot to unwind and recharge your batteries.

Next, head over to the Great Market Hall to experience the local bustle. It is a fantastic, free-to-enter indoor market where you can browse local spices, fresh produce, and Hungarian souvenirs. Just keep an eye on the clock, as operating hours vary throughout the week and it is closed on Sundays.

As evening falls, prepare to be amazed by Budapest’s legendary night views. Walk up to Fisherman’s Bastion for a panoramic view of the illuminated Hungarian Parliament Building. Seeing the golden lights reflected on the Danube River is an unforgettable experience—easily one of the most beautiful nightscapes in Europe.
While the lower terraces and stairs of Fisherman’s Bastion are completely free to explore, the upper observation deck requires a ticket of 1,700 HUF (~$5 USD) between 9:00 AM and 9:00 PM (it is free outside of these hours).

For accommodation, I highly recommend staying at the Novotel Budapest Danube. The main selling point? You get a direct, unobstructed view of the Parliament Building right from your room window!

Day 2: The Danube Bend Day Trip (Esztergom, Visegrád, & Szentendre)
On the second day, venture outside the city limits to explore the breathtaking Danube Bend. Joining a guided day tour is the most convenient way to cover three historic towns in one day: Esztergom (the former capital featuring the massive Esztergom Basilica), Visegrád (home to the historic high castle with royal ruins), and Szentendre (a picturesque, artistic town with colorful Mediterranean vibes).
Depending on the season and customized options, these day tours typically range from ~$83 to ~$243 USD. It is highly recommended to compare and book online in advance.

Day 3: A Deeper, Solo Look at Szentendre Art Village
Because Szentendre is so incredibly charming, spending just an hour there on a group tour doesn't do it justice. On Day 3, take the HÉV suburban train from Batthyány Square straight back to Szentendre to explore it at your own pace.
Szentendre is famous as an artists' colony, filled with galleries, craft shops, and cobblestone alleys. Don't miss the famous year-round Christmas shop where you can buy beautiful festive ornaments no matter the season!
