Laos Travel Review 2026: Vientiane to Luang Prabang
Explore Laos in 2026! From Vientiane's local eats to Vang Vieng's mountain views and Luang Prabang's night markets, plan your perfect boutique getaway.

Hey everyone! I wanted to share some memories from my incredible journey through Laos.
When we planned this trip, we managed to catch a direct flight from East Asia, which took about 5 hours. Flights can get a bit pricey these days, running around ~$448 depending on the season, but the destination is absolutely worth every penny.

Our first stop was the capital city, Vientiane. Naturally, we headed straight for food, and our very first meal was the legendary local beef offal noodle soup (similar to a rich Pho)!

161 Rue Hengboun, Vientiane, Laos
You can find this spot right around Rue Hengboun. It is super easy to spot once you arrive in the area!

The broth was incredibly clean and flavorful. Pair it with a cold, refreshing local Beerlao, and you have the perfect welcome meal.

For our stay in Vientiane, we checked into the gorgeous Green Park Boutique Hotel.
It features a stunning pool, excellent air conditioning, and some of the friendliest staff we have ever encountered. I am usually very picky about where I sleep, but this place was exceptionally clean and comfortable.
📍 Green Park Boutique Hotel
248 Khouvieng Road, Vientiane, Laos
The location is highly convenient, and prices hover around ~$70 to ~$80 per night. Honestly, getting this level of boutique quality and service at this price point is an absolute steal.

We also checked out a local shopping mall in Vientiane. It had a retro, indoor market vibe with a cinema inside, though there was not too much to see at the time. If anyone has visited recently, let me know in the comments how it has changed!

Next, we boarded a bus to Vang Vieng. The route starts flat but quickly turns into a dramatic mountain climb.
The unpaved roads and sheer drop-offs without guardrails made for a thrilling (and slightly terrifying) ride! However, stopping at the mountain summit for a quick break made it all worth it. The fresh breeze and panoramic views were absolutely breathtaking.

Once we arrived in Vang Vieng, we took some time to explore the town.
While most travelers head here for the Blue Lagoon or outdoor adventure sports, we opted for a relaxing staycation. Sometimes, just lounging by the pool is the ultimate travel luxury!

For dinner, we visited a famous local spot serving "Sindat"—a classic Laotian BBQ hotpot hybrid.
You grill pork belly on the central dome while boiling fresh vegetables in the surrounding broth. Pro tip: crack an egg into the broth for a rich, delicious finish!

📍 Peeping Som's
Peeping som's, Vang Vieng, Laos
This restaurant is highly walkable from anywhere in town. It is incredibly popular with international travelers, making for a lively atmosphere.

After dinner, we spent some time browsing the vibrant local night market.

Our accommodation here was Inthira Vang Vieng, which is easily one of the best hotels in the area. It is modern, stylish, and incredibly clean.

We ordered a fresh fruit platter to our room, though the selection was a bit hit-or-miss this time around.

The highlight was definitely the night swim in their gorgeous pool! Just make sure to check the operating hours before you dive in.
📍 Inthira Vang Vieng
Vang Vieng, Laos
Rooms here typically range from ~$51 to ~$64 per night, offering incredible value for a premium stay.

Our final destination was the UNESCO World Heritage town of Luang Prabang. We took a scenic 3-hour bus ride, which was much smoother than the previous mountain pass.
📍 Joma Bakery Cafe
Chao Fa Ngum Rd, Luang Prabang, Laos

Our first stop in town was the famous Joma Bakery Cafe, highly recommended for its artisanal sandwiches and cozy atmosphere.

The cafe features beautiful, warm wooden interiors that make you want to linger for hours.

We ordered sandwiches, a slice of cake, and some freshly brewed coffee. It was the perfect spot to slow down and enjoy the peaceful vibe of Luang Prabang.

While walking around the town center, we came across this charming global signpost pointing out the distances to various major cities around the world. It was fun to see how far we had traveled!

We spent our final evening exploring the massive Luang Prabang Night Market. It felt incredibly safe, even late at night, and was packed with local crafts and street food.

The fruit in Luang Prabang was exceptionally sweet, and we fell in love with *Khao Nom Kok*—the warm, sweet local coconut pancakes. We stayed at the Jasmine Hotel, which was comfortable, highly affordable, and featured another great pool!

Looking back, our trip to Laos was filled with daily swims, delicious street food, and incredibly comfortable, air-conditioned boutique stays. If you are looking for a relaxing, culturally rich destination that won't break the bank, Laos should definitely be on your 2026 bucket list!
