Just a short trip from Ljubljana, Slovenia's vibrant capital, you'll discover a collection of charming, tranquil towns, each with its own unique allure.

Among these picturesque spots, nestled at the foot of the stunning Alps, is the beautiful town of Kamnik. Today, I'm thrilled to introduce you to one of its true treasures: Zaprice Castle (Grad Zaprice).

This isn't just a castle; it's also a fantastic viewpoint, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the entire Kamnik town below.

1. Zaprice Castle General Information

Built in the early 16th century, this Renaissance-style castle now serves as a permanent museum and an open-air ethnological exhibition space.

Unfortunately, I visited on a Sunday, so I wasn't able to go inside the museum 🥲. If you're hoping to fully explore both the castle's interior and its exhibits, I highly recommend planning your visit for a day other than Sunday, Monday (its regular closing day), or a public holiday.

3. Exploring the Exterior & Traditional Wooden Houses

Even though the museum was closed, Zaprice Castle's outdoor areas alone made the visit incredibly worthwhile. There's so much to discover and enjoy!

Head to the expansive grassy area behind the castle, and you'll encounter one of its true highlights: a collection of traditional granaries.
