One of the absolute must-visit destinations when traveling in Taipei is the
National Palace Museum of Taiwan!
Most visitors head to the museum early in the morning,
often to catch a docent tour.
Starting your day early from your accommodation often means
skipping breakfast, right?
Well, let me introduce you to Yong He Soy Milk King,
a fantastic breakfast spot near the National Palace Museum of Taiwan!

The Yong He Soy Milk King we're introducing today is
conveniently located about a 📍 5-minute walk from Shilin MRT Station,
which is a transfer station for those heading to the museum from areas like Ximending.
We planned our itinerary to take the MRT from Ximending to Shilin Station,
grab a quick breakfast, and then take a bus to the museum.
For us, Yong He Soy Milk King was the perfect spot for this!
Taiwan has a thriving culture of eating breakfast out,
so it was no surprise to see locals already lining up to order.
Yong He Soy Milk King gets absolutely packed with customers from early morning,
so the staff were incredibly busy.
Inside, food was constantly being prepared,
while at the front, orders were being taken and served at a brisk pace.
Since you'll be waiting in line to order,
it's a good idea to decide on your menu choices beforehand.
While waiting, it was delightful to watch the food being prepared right before our eyes.
There were actually more types of food than I expected!
Seeing the freshly fried youtiao in clean oil,
it immediately gave off the vibe of a seriously good breakfast spot!
For your information, there are seating areas both inside and outside the store,
so once you've ordered, feel free to choose any available spot you like.
We opted for an outdoor seat because the weather was so lovely!
The menu had over 10 different dishes,
and the prices, ranging from 20 to 60 TWD, were incredibly affordable.
We felt the undeniable 'vibe' of a true local gem,
so we went ahead and ordered five dishes for our breakfast:
Radish Cake (蘿蔔糕) 20 TWD
Soy Milk (豆浆) 20 TWD
Youtiao (油条) 20 TWD
Cheese Danbing (起士蛋饼) 40 TWD
Danbing (蛋饼) 30 TWD
It's amazing, isn't it? We got such a hearty breakfast for a total of
130 TWD, which is about ~$4!
Looking back, this breakfast spread offers incredible value for money.
It's the perfect amount for two people,
so I highly recommend ordering this exact combination!
You'll find various sauces on the table, including chili and teriyaki,
so feel free to drizzle on whichever you prefer!
Personally, I found the chili sauce to be especially delicious.
📍 First up, Youtiao and Doujiang (soy milk)
are a match made in heaven—you could even call them a set menu.
Don't just order one; make sure to get both together
and try them!
Since the youtiao here is freshly fried,
it had a crispness and savory flavor that made it
the best youtiao I've ever tasted.
I usually find freshly fried youtiao a bit too greasy,
which often puts me off.
But the youtiao here made me think, 'Was it always this delicious?'
It really hit the spot.
Dip it in the doujiang, and it becomes much softer,
so definitely give that a try!
Doujiang is not only for dipping youtiao, but it's also a savory and satisfying breakfast on its own.
It's just as delicious as Korean soy milk, so be sure to try it!
📍 Next up is Taiwan's quintessential breakfast dish, Danbing!
I enjoyed Danbing so much on my last trip to Taiwan that
I ordered two this time as well.
As expected, freshly grilled Danbing is
chewy, savory, and absolutely delicious.
The classic Danbing with just egg was heavenly,
and the cheese Danbing was equally delightful!
If you find it a bit rich, try dipping it in the chili sauce.
(You absolutely *must* order Danbing!)
📍 The last item on our menu is Radish Cake (Luobogao).
While it looks similar to Korean rice cakes, its texture is quite different.
Rather than chewy, it has a soft bite,
and its characteristic is a savory and mild flavor.
Radish cake is tasty, but compared to Danbing,
it might be a dish that some people love and others find less appealing!
Radish cake also pairs wonderfully with chili sauce,
so if you find it too plain on its own, try it with the sauce.
We enjoyed a hearty breakfast for just ~$4
and then headed straight to the National Palace Museum.
This spot attracts a high percentage of locals,
making it perfect for an authentic local experience.
Plus, eating at the tables outside the shop
added to the charming atmosphere!
Personally, Danbing, Youtiao, Doujiang, and Radish Cake
all suited my taste perfectly, leaving me full and
satisfied with a delicious meal!

Among the various sauces available on the table, such as chili and teriyaki, we recommend dipping Danbing in chili sauce. When Danbing feels a bit greasy, chili sauce helps balance the flavor.
