Hello, fellow travelers!
I’m Susukkotdari, sharing my travel memories here.
After wrapping up a busy, high-stress workweek in Goseong
on Friday afternoon, the second I closed my laptop,
my own time finally began.
Instead of a packed itinerary with grand sightseeing plans,
we decided to just go with the flow, eat delicious food,
and take nightly strolls along the beach. Here is the story of our
3-day, 2-night getaway in Yangyang.
It was a slow, incredibly warm, and cozy pause
shared sweetly with my husband.
Day 1. From a Purple Haven
to a Sweet Reunion
Goseong Lavender Farm: No Lavender, but Purple Verbena in Full Bloom

This was an unexpected gift from having my business trip in Goseong.
As soon as I finished work,
the very first place I headed to was
Hani Lavender Farm in Goseong, but a little twist
was waiting for me. To my dismay, the lavender I was looking forward to
had already been harvested T_T
I was startled for a moment, but that disappointment
quickly turned into pure awe.
Because in place of the lavender,
beautiful purple verbena flowers were in full bloom.
The tall, slender purpletop verbena
swaying in the wind filled the empty lavender fields
with a poetic sense of peace. Walking through the quiet flower field on a weekday afternoon
all by myself, I could easily let go of daily noise
and clear my head.
Stay Yunseul: A White Haven right by Jeongam Beach

After a short drive from Goseong, I arrived at
Stay Yunseul Pension in Yangyang around 3:30 PM.
It's a gorgeous spot where Jeongam Beach
is right across the street.
Sitting by the signature kotatsu table,
I just stared out at the ocean, spaced out.
As the cozy afternoon sunlight spilled deep into the room,
doing absolutely nothing
felt incredibly refreshing.
Meeting at Sokcho Terminal & Our First Feast

Around sunset, I headed to Sokcho Terminal
to pick up my husband, who was taking the bus down from Seoul. The moment I saw him stepping off the bus
from afar, it felt like the final puzzle piece
of this trip had finally fallen into place.
For this trip, our only rule was to eat delicious food,
rest, eat, and play.
No intense sightseeing allowed! haha
Our first meal was a classic, local Sokcho dish:
beautifully red, marinated red crab (hongge-jang) and plump
marinated shrimp (saeu-jang) set. This is a menu hard to find in Seoul,
and since it was right near Sokcho Terminal,
we gave it a try—and oh my, it was the ultimate "rice thief"!

A Night Stroll on Jeongam Beach

After filling our bellies, we went back to the pension,
changed into comfy clothes, and walked over to Jeongam Beach,
which is just across the street.
The best thing about summer is that the beach is open,
with wooden rental platforms (pyeongsang) lined up along the shore.
It was so nice and cozy to just sit there
and listen to the sound of the waves at night.
Walking along the beach, then sitting on the platform
to chat about this and that...
It was a moment of absolute peace.
Day 2. Seorak Hot Springs and
Flavors of the Sokcho Sea
Awakening Every Cell in My Body,
Osaek Carbonated Hot Springs

After a quick breakfast of roasted sweet potatoes
we bought at the convenience store the night before,
we headed to the hot springs at Osaek Greenyard Hotel.
Talk about a true wellness healing trip! haha
At Osaek Carbonated Hot Springs, you can access the hot springs
and the wave baths (padong-yog), making it the perfect spot
to spend three or four hours. My body felt
completely refreshed! We had lunch at the hot spring restaurant,
and spent a relaxing, cozy, yet revitalizing time going back and forth
between various immunity-boosting therapy rooms.
We promised each other we'd visit here often in the future!
Bellemons: A Cafe with a View of Ulsanbawi Rock

Feeling completely refreshed, our next stop was
Cafe Bellemons, famous for its stunning view of Ulsanbawi Rock.
We were both feeling so wonderfully relaxed and cozy,
so we looked out at the lush, green slopes of Seoraksan Mountain
and sipped on some refreshing, iced Omija (schisandra berry) tea.
You absolutely have to visit this cafe! It’s incredibly spacious, clean,
and offers a peaceful, unhurried view of Ulsanbawi Rock.
Feasting on Snow Crab at Daepo Port & A Seaside Stroll

Dinner on our second night was another foodie adventure.
We absolutely stuffed ourselves with snow crab and fresh sashimi.
It was so much fun pulling out the sweet, tender meat
from the red snow crab legs, which came perfectly pre-cracked for easy eating.
We followed that up with savory fried rice served right in the crab shell,
and a spicy, flavor-packed fish stew (maeuntang)—
it honestly couldn't get any better than this!

We walked around the circular harbor of Daepo Port
to help digest our massive meal. We spotted a bridge we hadn't seen before,
so we decided to cross it.
Even though the day had been scorching hot, a cool, gentle
ocean breeze started blowing in once the sun went down.

Where do you think this is? Nha Trang?
It's actually Naksan Beach!
Since it felt a bit too early to head back to our room, we made a quick stop here,
and those straw parasols totally gave off tropical Vietnamese vibes.
As the sunset began to glow, the entire beach
was filled with such a romantic atmosphere.

And here we are, back at Jeongam Beach.
After relaxing at our accommodation for a bit, we couldn't resist going back out
to see the ocean again. We even snapped this cute, slightly cheesy photo together, haha.
Why do vacations always fly by so fast?
Day 3: Leaving Gangwon Behind and Returning to Reality
Dongil Sikdang: Kimchi Gomchiguk (Moray Eel Soup)

For breakfast on our final morning, we headed to
Dongil Sikdang, one of our absolute favorites.
There is simply no place that does Kimchi Gomchiguk better than this.
It's our ultimate, must-visit morning spot
whenever we're in Yangyang!
Since we were already in the area for breakfast,
we stopped by the Osan-ri Prehistoric Museum before
heading to Cafe Dunchi, which looks out over the Namdaecheon Stream.

Cafe Dunchi, which looks like it's floating right on the water,
is located next to a water sports center,
so you can rent cute white electric boats.
We skipped it thinking it would be too hot, but now I regret it a bit.
We could have been drifting peacefully along Namdaecheon Stream...
Yeoyeojeong: Marinated Grilled Ribs (Yangnyeom-galbi)

The grand finale of our culinary journey
was the marinated grilled ribs at Yeoyeojeong,
tucked deep inside Yangyang. Usually, we would have headed out
right after checkout to beat the traffic,
but this time we just couldn't bear to leave Yangyang so soon.
So, we squeezed in a cafe visit and a late lunch!
Filling up on hearty, delicious meat left us feeling
fully recharged and ready to tackle
the return to our daily routines.
Wrapping Up Our Trip

During this 3-day, 2-night trip to Yangyang, we didn't visit
a single famous tourist hotspot. There was no booming music
from Surfyy Beach, and no standing in long lines
at Instagram-famous locations.
Instead, that space was filled with the scent of lavender in Goseong,
the soothing sound of the night waves at Jeongam Beach, the cozy warmth of Osaek Hot Springs,
and the delicious local foods that treated our taste buds.
The evening walks I took with my husband along
Jeongam Beach every single night will stay with me
for a very long time. It was a true wellness getaway,
allowing us to nurture our true selves amidst our busy lives.
If you're planning a trip, why not take inspiration from our couple's "no-sightseeing"
slow-paced Yangyang itinerary?
It might be just what you need!
