Why I Chose Hotels Over Airbnb?

Within a 10-minute radius of the accommodation, you'll find everything you need to eat and buy.

A convenience store is just a 1-minute walk away, the night market is 5 minutes, and a 24-hour supermarket is also within an 8-minute walk.

The hotel is located right where you can see the building as soon as you exit Ximen Station Exit 3.

Perhaps because it's a Japanese chain, the facilities felt modern and predictably reliable.

Although there's a self-check-in kiosk in the lobby,

a staff member actually helped me with the process.

I stayed in a Superior Double Room, designed for two people,

and it was a room with a view of Ximen Station's Rainbow Bridge outside the window, offering a beautiful night view.

This was quite an important detail when traveling with parents.

For 2 people, the difference is ~$83, but if you keep expanding the room size,

for 5 people, the difference can widen to nearly ~$483.

However, this table only applies when calculating for "one room."

The situation changes significantly with Sotetsu if you use separate rooms,

and I've covered this separately below.

Holiday Accommodation Bookings are a Different Story Entirely

If you search again for Chuseok or other holiday dates, you'll find different results than expected.

The two hotels operate in opposite ways.

Attic doesn't tend to get significantly more expensive during holidays.

Instead, rooms disappear quickly.

For instance, stays on the second day of a holiday were already sold out by mid-July... ^^...

Sotetsu is the opposite.

Rooms remain plentiful, but prices continuously increase as the date approaches.

In other words, if you book Sotetsu early, you actually have more choices.

With over 200 rooms,

being able to choose dates without worrying about selling out, even during holidays, was a definite advantage.

Both places offer free cancellation,

so if you change your mind up to a week before departure, there's less pressure.

Sotetsu: Two Rooms for 4-5 People

When the number of people increases, Sotetsu can suddenly seem expensive,

but there's a trick: dividing the rooms.

Looking up rates based on holiday periods, one clear conclusion emerged:

Instead of booking one family room,

it was much more reasonable to split into two double rooms.

A family room is 59㎡,

but combining two double rooms actually gives you more space at 68㎡!

When you break down the price difference by room configuration,

it could be as wide as ~$173 to ~$207.

However, keep in mind that cheaper double rooms might not have a view or even a window at all,

so you'll want to carefully check this detail on the booking screen.

Some rooms only have one queen bed,

meaning two adults might need to share a bed.

Also, note that bathtubs are said to be available only in family rooms,

so definitely confirm this before booking if it's important to you.

If you're traveling with young children,

having separate rooms might actually be inconvenient.

Conversely, if your group is two parents and adult children,

splitting into separate rooms is likely to be more comfortable and affordable.

So, just because you're a group of four or five,

it doesn't mean you *have* to go with Attic.

Sotetsu can also be a truly competitive option,

if you plan your room configuration smartly!

→ You want to secure a room without worrying about it being fully booked during holidays

Attic is a good fit if:

→ Budget is your top priority

→ You're a family with young children who need to stay together in one room

→ Your trip is 3 nights or more and requires laundry facilities

Attic is best when budget comes first,

but if you want consistent location and condition,

Sotetsu is a better match.

Especially for groups of 4 or 5 who can manage separate rooms,

Sotetsu can turn out to be a surprisingly reasonable choice.
