Wulai Hot Spring Hotels in Taipei:
Where to Stay & Top Recommendations
By Global Explorer
If you're planning a trip to Taipei, Taiwan in 2026, adding a hot spring staycation to your itinerary is an absolute must.
The demand for these relaxing getaways is higher than you might think!
During my recent trip, I booked a hot spring hotel for a full day of unwinding, and honestly, the value for money was incredible.
Today, I'm going to break down the best hot spring locations around Taipei and share my top budget-friendly hotel picks in the Wulai hot spring village—all for around ~$77 a night!

When it comes to hot springs near Taipei, two main areas dominate the conversation: Beitou and Wulai.
The biggest difference between the two?
▶️ Beitou features sulfur hot springs,
▶️ Wulai features carbonated hot springs.
✅ If you aren't a fan of the strong "rotten egg" smell of sulfur, Wulai is definitely the better choice for you.
Additionally, while Beitou feels more like a developed urban area, Wulai is tucked away in lush, nature-rich mountains just a few miles outside the city.
This is a crucial factor to consider when booking your staycation.
💡 Personally, I chose Wulai because its breathtaking natural scenery pairs perfectly with a relaxing getaway, and I strongly prefer odorless carbonated springs.

Let's do a quick breakdown of the Wulai area using the map above.

📌 Wulai Area Guide 📍 Wulai District Office - Near the local residential area Parking Lot - Wulai bus terminal 📍 Old Street - Hub for restaurants and street food Sightseeing Train (Log Cart) - Direct line to Wulai Waterfall Wulai Waterfall - Cluster of cafes and eateries Yun Hsien Resort - The highest hotel in Wulai |
As noted above, the bus terminal is located where it says "Parking Lot."
Therefore, if you're traveling by bus, ✅ I highly recommend booking accommodation near the Wulai District Office or the Old Street.
If you plan to take a taxi, staying as far down as the Sightseeing Train area is manageable.
However, traveling further south than that comes with a lot of mobility restrictions, so I'd advise against booking a hotel too deep into the mountains.

📍 I chose to stay near the Wulai District Office.
Since this is primarily a residential area for locals, you'll find large convenience stores and some fantastic, authentic local restaurants.
This area is also home to several budget-friendly options, as well as the famous Volando Urai Spring Spa & Resort.

I stayed at the Spring Spa Hotel, a fantastic budget-friendly spot with private hot springs.
For just around ~$77, my room had its own private bath and stunning views of the hot springs. My satisfaction level was through the roof!
Because it offers such great value, it's incredibly popular and books up fast.
✅ So, if your travel dates are set, book early!

The next location I'd recommend is 📍 near Wulai Old Street.
It's a very short walk from the bus terminal, making it incredibly convenient for travelers relying on public transit.
It's also super easy when you're ready to head back to downtown Taipei.

In this area, I highly recommend the Sun Moon Bed & Breakfast.
The biggest perk of Wulai is being able to soak in the awe-inspiring views of Mother Nature.
This hotel lets you do exactly that while enjoying a private hot spring bath right in your room, making it an excellent bang for your buck.

The absolute limit for where I'd book a stay is 📍 up to the Wulai Sightseeing Train (Log Cart) area.
It's still walkable from the main hub and not too far from the Old Street, so grabbing dinner in the evening is perfectly doable.

For this zone, I suggest checking out the Wulai Xuan Hot Spring House.
The balcony rooms offer incredibly relaxing views of the lush surroundings, and since every room has a private tub, you can enjoy a hot spring soak whenever you please.
There's also a convenience store nearby, so you won't have to worry about late-night cravings.

Spending a night in Wulai, soaking in a hot spring while surrounded by nature, was an unforgettable experience.
I actually scheduled my staycation early in my trip, but if you're still planning your 2026 itinerary, I highly recommend placing your hot spring getaway at the very end. It's the perfect way to melt away travel fatigue before heading home!
While the Spring Spa Hotel was my personal favorite, I hope you find the perfect spot that fits your travel style and preferences.
Have a fantastic trip to Taiwan!
