Despite its name, "New York Woodbury Outlets," you might assume it's right in the heart of NYC. However, to be precise, it's actually located in Central Valley, New York State, not New York City.

It's typically about a 1 to 1.5-hour drive from Manhattan, so it's not somewhere you can just hop on the subway and easily reach.

That's why most visitors to Woodbury opt for a rental car, a shuttle bus, or a dedicated Woodbury tour.

My Experience: Renting a Car for Woodbury Outlets

On my past trips to Woodbury, I actually used a rental car.

However, I saw many other travelers who arrived by bus. I even spotted some lugging their suitcases to the bus stop afterward... Personally, due to sheer exhaustion, I just couldn't imagine doing that!

Why? Because once you arrive at Woodbury, you grab a map, strategize which stores to hit, navigate the vast complex, try on clothes, compare prices, and before you know it, your shopping bags are multiplying, and you've walked miles!

Of course, if you plan your attack and know exactly which stores you're targeting, you might save some energy. But with all those irresistible "Sale" signs plastered everywhere, it's almost impossible not to pop into every store!

Wandering from shop to shop, carrying bags, and then having to worry about catching a bus on time while dragging a suitcase? Just thinking about it makes me tired!

I also once visited another mall, the Garden Mall, by bus. After a whirlwind of shopping and being completely distracted by all my new purchases, I somehow managed to lose my bus ticket! I ended up having to take a taxi back, which definitely added an unplanned expense to the day.

Ultimately, if you're going to make the trip to Woodbury for some serious shopping, I believe comfort and convenience are paramount.

However, for just a few days of sightseeing in New York, getting an international driver's permit, booking a rental, figuring out insurance, calculating tolls, and then actually driving yourself can be quite a hassle.

Especially in central Manhattan, traffic is notoriously heavy. Personally, I'd rather not deal with driving while on vacation!

And don't forget, after 6 hours of intense shopping at Woodbury, you'll still have to drive all those heavy shopping bags back to Manhattan.
