On the very last day of my Fukuoka adventure,

I was trying to figure out what to eat before hitting Don Quijote for some serious shopping.

That's when I stumbled upon this amazing udon spot open from morning till night,

absolutely packed with local residents.

It’s none other than West Udon Tenjin!

Offering incredible value for money, they serve everything from udon and tendon (tempura rice bowls) to mentaiko (pollock roe) rice and curry.

Because of this delicious variety,

it's a massive favorite among the locals.

Today, I’ll share everything about West Udon Tenjin—from opening hours and menu options

to my honest, detailed review!

West Udon Tenjin Information

It’s just a 5-minute walk from Tenjin-Minami Station,

right across the street from Don Quijote Tenjin.

It’s the perfect spot to grab a bite before or after a shopping spree!

Exterior & Interior

With its large, prominent white sign,

the exterior is super easy to spot even from a distance.

Right at the entrance, they display photos of the menu,

so you can check out what they offer before stepping inside.

The interior is clean and tidy overall,

offering a great variety of tables ranging from 2-seaters to 4-seaters.

There's a restroom inside the restaurant,

and they even have high chairs available,

making it a great dining option for family travelers with kids.

Menu & What We Ordered

West Udon Tenjin serves a wide variety of classic Japanese dishes, including udon, tendon, curry, and soba.

Plus, after 5:00 PM, they also switch on their Izakaya menu,

allowing you to enjoy tempura, grilled dishes, and even motsunabe (offal hot pot)!

You can place your order directly with the staff.

While there isn't a dedicated English menu, the helpful photos on the menu

make ordering a breeze!

· Tendon + Udon Set: 850 yen

· Mentaiko Rice + Udon Set: 850 yen

· Curry + Udon Set: 850 yen

· Yuzu Sour: 400 yen * 3

Honest Review

We walked in thinking it looked like a great budget-friendly spot from the pictures outside.

While there were only a few customers when we first arrived,

by the time we left, the place was completely packed! It's clearly a popular local favorite.

On each table, alongside the menu,

you’ll find green onions, tempura flakes (tenkasu), utensils, chopsticks, and tissues ready for use.

Our dishes came out much faster than expected,

beautifully and neatly arranged on individual trays.

I ordered the Mentaiko Rice + Udon Set!

Getting to enjoy both of these dishes together

for just 850 yen (approx. $6) was such an amazing deal!

It came with yellow pickled radish on the side

and some soy sauce as well.

As for the udon,

I was a bit surprised at first because it was served completely plain.

But it turns out, there are containers on the table

where you can add as much green onions and tempura flakes as you like!

Once I loaded it up with green onions and tempura flakes,

the flavor instantly leveled up!

The portions for both the rice and noodles were quite generous,

and since Fukuoka is famous for mentaiko (pollock roe),

I was so glad to try the mentaiko rice here.

The salty kick of the mentaiko paired perfectly with the warm, comforting udon.

And since it was the final night of my trip, I ordered a light drink—

a Yuzu Sour!

The refreshing citrus aroma made it the perfect final toast to my journey.

A little slice of happiness for just 400 yen (approx. $3)...

Overall Review

By lunchtime, the place was packed with locals.

Personally, it felt like Fukuoka's version of

a classic, go-to everyday diner.
