Vivid Sydney 2026 runs for 23 spectacular nights from May 22 to June 13, 2026.
Celebrating its 16th year, this incredible festival transforms iconic landmarks like the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge into massive, glowing canvases.
The main highlight is the Vivid Light Walk—a free, 4-mile trail of pure magic!
💡 What is the Light Walk? It is a scenic 4-mile walking trail starting from Circular Quay, winding through The Rocks and Barangaroo, and ending at Darling Harbour. Taking your time to snap photos, it takes about 2 to 3 hours to complete. You can start from either end, depending on your plans!

📍 Circular Quay & Opera Bar
This is the ultimate Vivid photo spot where you can capture both the illuminated Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge in a single frame.
📍 The Rocks
Just a 5-minute walk from Circular Quay. The historic alleyways come alive with vibrant projection mapping. The narrow streets create a beautifully immersive light tunnel effect that looks stunning on camera.
📍 MCA (Museum of Contemporary Art)
The museum facade features the breathtaking 'Vaiola' projection by Samoan-Australian artist Angela Tiatia. The entire building turns into a massive digital canvas—stand directly in front of the building for a truly artistic shot.
📍 Barangaroo
About a 15 to 20-minute walk from Circular Quay. It is generally less crowded than the Quay, offering a more relaxed atmosphere to enjoy the modern light installations.

What to Wear: Sydney Winter Prep
Since Vivid Sydney takes place at the start of the Australian winter, the days are generally pleasant, but the harbor breeze makes the nights feel quite chilly.
On the night I went, the temperature was around 59°F (15°C). I felt perfectly fine walking around until about 9:00 PM, but while waiting for the show by the water, the cold wind really picked up. I was incredibly glad I brought a warm outer coat and a reusable hand warmer!
Think of it as late autumn weather in New York or London—layering is key, and a wind-resistant jacket is a lifesaver.
The Perfect Walking Route & Insider Tips
For the best flow, start your evening at Circular Quay in the late afternoon. Catch the sunset, admire the lights turning on at the Opera House and Harbour Bridge, then head through The Rocks. From there, stroll down to Barangaroo and wrap up your night at Darling Harbour just in time for the fireworks show!

The Light Walk is a 6.5km course starting from Circular Quay, passing through The Rocks and Barangaroo, and ending at Darling Harbour. If you walk slowly and take pictures, it takes about 2 to 3 hours to complete the entire course.

According to the update on May 30, 2026, the scheduled drone show has been completely cancelled. Instead, fireworks will take its place at the same location at 7:30 PM and 9:30 PM, the original times for the drone show.
