Ureshino Onsen: Ryokan Oomuraya – A Serene Fukuoka Escape

If you're traveling to Fukuoka,

just shopping in Hakata or Tenjin,

a 2-night, 3-day trip flies by in an instant, doesn't it?

But if you're traveling with family

or want to relax in a hot spring in a quieter setting,

spending a night in a nearby hot spring town is a great option.

The most famous spot is, of course, Yufuin,

but I found it quite crowded when I went there previously.

So this time, while looking for a slightly quieter hot spring village,

I discovered Ureshino.

So, as I prepared for my Fukuoka trip this time,

the place I researched was Ureshino Onsen.

Among the places I considered for accommodation,

Ryokan Oomuraya (旅館 大村屋)​ was one.

Why I Chose Ureshino Instead of Yufuin

Ureshino is a small hot spring town located in Saga Prefecture.

The atmosphere is completely different from Fukuoka city center,

making it a better fit for those who prefer a trip focused on relaxing in hot springs and ryokan

over shopping.

Ureshino Onsen, in particular,

is known as one of Japan's representative 'hot springs for beautiful skin,' and

according to official information,

it's a sodium bicarbonate-chloride spring,

characterized by its smooth-feeling spring water.

Personally, I'd recommend it more to those who

prefer to spend a day relaxing in a quiet Japanese small town

rather than rushing through multiple famous tourist spots.

How to Get to Ureshino from Fukuoka

There are three main ways to get to Ureshino Onsen from Fukuoka:

JR, highway bus, or rental car.

I initially planned to go by bus,

but after looking into it, I found that the most convenient method

varies slightly depending on your starting location and time of day.

1. The Fastest Way: JR

If you're departing from Hakata Station,

you can **take the Limited Express Relay Kamome to Takeo-Onsen Station**,

then **transfer to the Nishi-Kyushu Shinkansen Kamome.**

The journey from Hakata Station to Ureshino-Onsen Station takes

approximately **1 hour and 10 minutes,**

and based on online discount tickets,

a one-way fare is about **3,990 yen.**

However, Ureshino-Onsen Station isn't

located right in the heart of the traditional hot spring town,

so you'll need to take an additional taxi or bus from the station

to get to Ryokan Oomuraya.

Ryokan Oomuraya is about a 5-minute taxi ride from Ureshino-Onsen Station,

so a taxi might be more convenient if you have luggage.

2. To Save on Transport Costs: Highway Bus

If you want to travel a bit more affordably,

you can also take the **Fukuoka-Nagasaki highway bus, Kyushu-go.**

Buses that pass through Ureshino stop at

Ureshino IC or Ureshino Bus Center.

Currently, a one-way fare is approximately **2,200 yen,**

and a round-trip ticket is about **4,000 yen.**

If you depart from Hakata Bus Terminal, it takes

about 2 hours.

If you board directly from Fukuoka Airport International Terminal,

it takes approximately 1 hour and 20-30 minutes.

Especially if you plan to head directly to Ureshino

as soon as you arrive in Fukuoka from Korea,

the route from **Fukuoka Airport International Terminal → Ureshino**

seems quite convenient.

However, an important point to note is that

not all buses go all the way to Ureshino Bus Center.

If you're staying at a ryokan within Ureshino Onsen town,

it's more convenient to get off at Ureshino Bus Center.

But depending on the time of day, some buses only stop at Ureshino IC

or require a transfer,

so I recommend checking the actual timetable and stops

before making your reservation.

3. For Family Trips: A Rental Car is Convenient Too

If you want the most comfortable way to travel

from Fukuoka to Ureshino Onsen,

a rental car is also a good option.

From Fukuoka city center to Ureshino IC, it's about a 1-hour drive,

and from Ureshino IC to the hot spring town, it's about 5 minutes.

This means you won't need to transfer or carry your luggage around

like you would with public transport.

Especially for **groups of two or more, family trips with parents,**

or **trips with lots of luggage,** a rental car will likely be more comfortable.

Once your accommodation dates are set,

I recommend **checking both Google Maps and official timetables before making your reservation.**

Why I Chose Ryokan Oomuraya

Among the many Ureshino ryokans,

the reason I paid close attention to **Ryokan Oomuraya** was its rooms.

From traditional Japanese tatami rooms,

to **rooms with private indoor and semi-open-air onsen baths**

where you can enjoy hot springs right inside your room.

Double Room (for 2 people)

If you're spending a night in a hot spring town, and you're looking for a **room where you can privately enjoy the onsen**, rather than a crowded public bath, I think this place is a great option.

It also looks perfect for family trips!

Traditional Room (Suisen) (for 4 people)

With a wide range of room types,

you're sure to find a perfect match for your family!

Public Baths and Private Onsen

Oomuraya also features public baths.

According to the official website,

they operate from **6 AM to 10 AM / 3 PM to midnight**.

There are also private spaces available for separate use.

You can choose between options for 2 or 4 people.

The private baths are not free even for hotel guests;

currently, it's **4,400 yen for 50 minutes per room**, and advance reservations are required.

A private bath that includes a private sauna

is 8,800 yen for 90 minutes.

So, if you're traveling as a couple,

it might be a good idea to compare the price of a cheaper room + an added private bath,

against the price of a room that already includes an onsen.

Breakfast + Dinner

When booking a ryokan,

don't just look at the rooms – **make sure to check if meals are included.**

Oomuraya offers plans ranging from accommodation-only

to those including breakfast, or both breakfast and dinner.

The official 1-night, 2-meal standard plan features a Kaiseki dinner centered around

shabu-shabu using Ureshino tea, and for breakfast, Ureshino's specialty, **Onsen Yudofu**, is served.

When I visit charming hot spring towns like this,

I usually prefer a **ryokan that includes dinner.**

It means I don't have to go searching for a restaurant again for dinner,

and the ryokan's cuisine itself becomes a delightful part of the journey.

So, when you're booking, I recommend not just looking at the cheapest room, but also

**comparing prices that include both dinner and breakfast.**

Personally, I think Ryokan Oomuraya is a place worth considering if you are:

**Someone looking to truly relax for a day during your Fukuoka trip,**

**Seeking a quieter onsen town than Yufuin,**

**A couple wanting to enjoy a private onsen experience,**

**Or travelers looking for a Japanese ryokan to enjoy with your parents.**

Especially for me, I planned to book a **room with a private onsen + including dinner and breakfast**

to truly relax and unwind at the ryokan.

If you feel like just shopping in Fukuoka isn't enough,

it might be wonderful to travel to Ureshino for a day

and relax in this way!
