When I travel to Japan, there’s nothing I love more than settling down with some delicious yakitori and a cold beer.
On my recent trip to Fukuoka, I was on the hunt for a fantastic spot to grab a casual drink and some bites. That’s how I stumbled upon Uratenjin Noren, tucked away near Tenjinminami Station.
Even though this izakaya just opened in December 2025, it’s already incredibly popular with the locals, drawing in crowds and even a waitlist! It's a true hidden gem for those looking to experience authentic Japanese nightlife.
If you're in Fukuoka and craving top-notch wagyu or perfectly grilled skewers, Uratenjin Noren offers both. Let me tell you all about it!

Opening Hours: 5:00 PM ~ 12:00 AM
Card Payments Accepted
You'll find Uratenjin Noren conveniently located about a 5-minute walk from Tenjinminami Station's Exit 6. Its proximity to the bustling Tenjin area makes it incredibly accessible.
It’s perfect for a second round of drinks and snacks, but with such a fantastic menu, it’s also an excellent choice for a full dinner.

I made a reservation for 8:00 PM, and even then, there was quite a crowd waiting outside when I arrived. This place is definitely a hot spot right now, with the entire restaurant packed!
If you're planning a visit, I highly recommend making a reservation in advance through Google or Tabelog to avoid a wait.

From the moment we walked in until we left, the interior was completely full, making it tricky to snap many photos. What really stood out was the clientele – it was predominantly Japanese locals, which is always a great sign for an authentic experience!
We were guided to seats at the counter, offering a great view of the kitchen action.

While there isn't an English menu, ordering is a breeze thanks to the QR code system at each table. Even if you don't speak Japanese, you can easily navigate the options.
Once you're seated, a staff member will use a translator to ask if you’d like the all-you-can-drink option, known as Nomihodai. This fantastic deal costs ~$12 and runs for two hours. If you plan on having three or more drinks, it’s definitely the more economical choice!

While yakitori is a main draw, Uratenjin Noren also specializes in Wagyu, so you'll find an impressive selection of beef dishes. From Wagyu beef tartare to assorted bar snacks, various skewers, and even a unique raw salmon rare katsu, there were so many tempting options I wanted to try!

At our seats, a simple setup of small plates and chopsticks was already waiting.

Soon after, our otoshi arrived. For those unfamiliar, otoshi is a small appetizer served at Japanese izakayas, often functioning as a cover charge. Ours was a delicious lettuce salad topped with crispy fried burdock root.
Fried burdock root is a famous local specialty in Fukuoka, and it made for a surprisingly good pairing with beer. The best part? The otoshi is refillable, and I definitely took advantage of that! 👍

As a true beer lover, my first order was, of course, a draft beer! They serve Suntory Kaoru Ale, which is truly phenomenal – a perfect start to the evening.

While enjoying the otoshi and my beer, our order of raw salmon rare katsu arrived. It was perfectly crispy on the outside and incredibly tender and moist on the inside, pairing beautifully with the homemade tartar sauce underneath. It was easy to see why this is one of their signature dishes!

From the skewer menu, we ordered pork belly and green onion. You might wonder why order green onion at a yakitori place, but trust me, you *have* to try their green onion skewers here!
These aren't spicy; they're subtly sweet and provide a refreshing bite when you need to cut through the richness of the other skewers. Absolutely delicious!

We also ordered the handmade tsukune (chicken meatballs) after watching them prepare it fresh. Being homemade, I had high expectations, and it did not disappoint! It was incredibly moist and juicy, far from any pre-made version, and truly delicious.

With such delicious appetizers, the beer just kept flowing! 🍻

I debated ordering Wagyu skewers but ultimately went with the Wagyu Beef Tartare, a recommendation from the staff. The sweet and savory sauce perfectly complemented the Wagyu, offering a delicious experience that was distinct from a tataki. The beef was so incredibly tender, it practically melted away before I knew it! 🥹

To round off the meal, we ordered the "White Bear Soup" (Baekomtang). It had a rich, savory flavor, reminiscent of a hearty bone broth, making me wish I had a bowl of white rice and some kimchi to go with it! It was the perfect comforting finish.

Another meal, happily devoured! Uratenjin Noren, as a relatively new establishment, delivered a thoroughly satisfying experience with both its drinks and appetizers.
It still feels like a well-kept secret among non-Japanese tourists; during my visit, about 90% of the patrons were locals, which truly speaks to its authenticity and quality.
If you're near Fukuoka's Tenjinminami area and searching for a local favorite izakaya, or a spot where you can indulge in delicious wagyu and expertly grilled skewers, make sure to add Uratenjin Noren to your itinerary!
