Where to Stay in Lisbon: Hotel Recommendation
Turim Terreiro do Paço Hotel
After a long journey and a layover, we finally touched down in Lisbon. Since we only had one night to rest and recharge before heading north to Porto, finding a comfortable, high-quality hotel was our top priority!
We wanted a place close to the Santa Apolónia train station, and crucially, a hotel situated on flat terrain (if you know Lisbon, you know how rare and valuable this is!).
This hotel checked all our boxes: it was in pristine condition, just steps from the city center, and offered an incredibly restful stay. Compared to a more budget-friendly spot we stayed at later in the trip, this 4-star experience was completely worth it. Here is my full review!

After exploring the city, I can confidently say that the Baixa district is hands-down the best area to base yourself in Lisbon.

Almost all the spots I had pinned on my map were in or around Baixa. The accessibility to major tourist attractions is unbeatable, and it's right where you'll see those iconic yellow trams gliding by!
Public transportation is incredibly easy to navigate from here, but the biggest perk is the flat terrain. Walking around is a breeze! In fact, other than taking a ride-share out to the Belém district, we walked absolutely everywhere.

I snapped this photo right in front of the hotel—look at that beautifully flat street! It was super easy to call an Uber or Bolt right to the front door. The surrounding area is well-lit and feels very safe at night, which gave us great peace of mind.

While the absolute bustling center of Baixa is the area circled in yellow above, our hotel was just a quick 5-minute walk away.
Later in our trip, we stayed right in the heart of that busy commercial zone, and the street noise was definitely noticeable. Staying just slightly off the main drag at Turim Terreiro do Paço meant zero street noise. It was wonderfully quiet!
When I was booking the Turim Terreiro do Paço, I noticed that decent 3-star hotels in Lisbon were running in the low ~$150s, while 4-star hotels were generally in the mid-to-high ~$190s.
(Note: These were our rates as of April 2026; expect higher prices during peak summer months).
Keep in mind that Lisbon has a City Tax of €4 (~$4.30) per person, per night, which you pay directly at the hotel upon check-in.

For whatever reason, when comparing the exact same dates, Trip.com was significantly cheaper than other platforms. Even with my high-tier status on Agoda, Trip.com was still about ~$38 cheaper!

One thing that really stood out was the service. We were running incredibly late for a dinner reservation and just needed to drop our bags in the lobby.
Seeing us rush, the bellboy immediately stepped in and assured us he would take our luggage up to our room once it was ready. (This seems to be their standard level of service!)
Not only did they securely store our bags, but having them waiting for us in our room when we got back was such a nice, welcoming touch.
Check out the room tour video at the bottom!
Our Superior Room was about 204 sq ft (19m2). While that might sound cozy, it was laid out so well that we could fully open two large 28-inch suitcases and still have plenty of room to walk around.

The large mirror above the bed really opened up the space, making it feel much larger. I also loved that the room had sleek hardwood floors instead of carpets—it felt so much cleaner and dust-free!

The double bed was perfectly sized for two. The linens were crisp, impeccably clean, and the bedding was so plush that we completely passed out from exhaustion on our first night.
Having charging outlets on both sides of the bed was a small but essential detail that made charging our phones overnight super convenient.

Complimentary water is provided in glass bottles, which was actually the standard at every hotel we visited in Portugal!
If you prefer sealed plastic bottles, I recommend grabbing some from a nearby grocery store. There are plenty of Pingo Doce and My Auchan supermarkets just a short walk away.

The small bedside table was handy for dropping our keys and wallets. The room also came equipped with coffee, tea, and an electric kettle. Oh, and the air conditioning worked flawlessly—a huge plus!

There was a dedicated space for luggage and a surprisingly spacious open closet area, making it easy to hang our outfits for the next day.

I mentioned earlier that we stayed at a more budget-friendly hotel later in the trip. That place lacked an elevator and a mini-fridge, which was a bit of a letdown.
It's actually quite common for European hotels to skip the mini-fridge, so if having cold water or storing snacks is important to you, always double-check before booking! Turim Terreiro do Paço had a great little fridge, which was a massive win in my book.

They even provided complimentary slippers! If you're staying here at the start of your trip, it's a great idea to hold onto them for use during the rest of your travels.

The bathroom was generously sized, with the shower, sink, and toilet areas smartly separated. For those who travel with a filtered showerhead, you can easily swap it out here! The water pressure was fantastic, and the hot water was immediate.

Another huge benefit of this location is the incredible food scene. Here are two fantastic spots I highly recommend, both within a 3-minute walk from the hotel!
📍 Maria Catita
R. dos Bacalhoeiros 30, 1100-389 Lisboa, Portugal
You absolutely MUST make a reservation for this place! We ordered the Polvo (octopus) and the seafood rice. The staff was incredibly welcoming, and the food was phenomenal. It was honestly the best octopus I had during my entire trip.

📍 Potato Project
Rua da Conceição 8, 1100-226 Lisboa, Portugal
If you're craving a quick, satisfying snack, this spot serves up massive portions of gourmet fries at a great price! I believe they have locations in both Lisbon and Porto. Do yourself a favor and get the piri-piri mayonnaise—it's dangerously good.

With its unbeatable location and excellent facilities, the Turim Terreiro do Paço is the perfect base for couples or honeymooners looking to explore central Lisbon.
Having a ground-floor elevator and an in-room mini-fridge made our stay incredibly convenient and comfortable.
If you're hunting for the perfect romantic getaway hotel in Lisbon, definitely put this one on your shortlist!

The TURIM Terreiro do Paço Hotel is located in Lisbon's Baixa district. It is close to Santa Apolónia train station, offers good accessibility to major tourist attractions and the yellow tram lines, and is mostly flat, making it convenient for walking.
In April, a 4-star hotel typically costs in the mid-to-late ~$160s, with an additional Lisbon City tax of 4 Euros per person per night. According to the article, Trip.com was about ~$33 cheaper than other booking sites.
The Superior Double Room is 19m2, providing enough space to open two 28-inch suitcases. The room includes a refrigerator, slippers, coffee/tea, and an electric kettle. The air conditioning and bedside charging ports also work well.
Within a 3-minute walk from the hotel, you'll find 'Maria Catita' and 'Potato Project'. Maria Catita is famous for its 'Polvo' (octopus) and seafood rice, and reservations are essential. Potato Project is a great value French fry shop, and we recommend the Piri Piri Mayonnaise flavor.
