So, I went, and let me tell you, it exceeded all expectations! The night views were absolutely legendary.

Once purchased, an e-ticket is sent directly to you. The QR code on this e-ticket allows for immediate entry.

Tip: Sunset times are incredibly popular as they offer the chance to experience both the golden hour glow and the glittering NYC nightscape. These slots often sell out quickly, so make sure to book well in advance!

Even if your schedule makes advance booking tricky, you can often book on the same day for immediate entry, though popular times might be limited.

Once you're in, there's no time limit to your visit, so you can soak it all in at your own pace.

④ My Experience

I personally wanted the physical Top of the Rock ticket as a souvenir, so I exchanged my mobile e-ticket at the box office. But don't worry, you can enter directly with your mobile e-ticket too!

Upon entry, there's a security check. Long or pointed items like tripods might be restricted, so keep that in mind. After the check, you'll proceed to the observation decks in order.

Once you ascend to the observation decks, you'll find both a glass-enclosed level and an open-air deck. Head up one more level to the completely open-air deck for unobstructed, breathtaking views of the city!

I checked the sunset time on my iPhone. While it's usually accurate, if you aim to arrive right at sunset, you won't get to fully appreciate the transition. To truly savor the sunset and twilight, I recommend going up about 30 minutes before the official sunset time.

Watching the colossal New York buildings that I'd only ever seen in movies unfold before my eyes was truly an overwhelming experience.

You know that iconic "New York!" song by Jay-Z, "Empire State Of Mind"? I listened to that as the sun set. Seriously, add it to your playlist if you're heading to Top of the Rock! It made me feel like I was living a dream, like a true New Yorker.

Watching the sky darken with that soundtrack playing was pure bliss.

Way, way, way out in the distance, I thought I could even glimpse the Statue of Liberty! But honestly, you need to see it with your own eyes. If you've made it all the way to New York, you absolutely have to experience the Empire State Building's night view properly from Top of the Rock!

As darkness falls, New York's lights become even more dazzling.

Ever wonder about those pointy spires on top of some buildings? They serve multiple purposes: as broadcasting and communication antennas, lightning rods to protect the structures from strikes, and as platforms for red warning lights to alert pilots to the building's presence. I actually looked it up during my visit, wondering why so many buildings had them!

You can check this website to see which event or organization the Empire State Building's lights are celebrating each night. I actually found this out during my New York trip when I saw the building lit up in such beautiful colors; a fellow traveler at a nearby table shared this cool tip!

On the 69th floor, where there's glass, reflections can make it hard to see clearly at night. Make sure to head up to the higher, open-air decks for the best views!

Towards the end, there's a photo opportunity where professional photographers can capture your moment. You can choose to purchase the photos if you like them, but it's completely optional.

Finally, browse the gift shop for some souvenirs, and your Top of the Rock experience concludes!

Even now, just thinking about that moment brings back the same surge of emotion. I'm not usually one for observation decks, but if you're visiting New York, I truly believe Top of the Rock is a must-see. You absolutely have to witness the city skyline from here with your own eyes.
