After a delightful meal,
I headed down, eager to find a cafe.
To my pleasant surprise, I discovered a vibrant area filled with ceramic shops and workshops!
I even spotted a place selling a special milk unique to Tokoname City.
As I wandered, my eyes landed on Wabisuke, a charming spot that was both a cafe and a restaurant, right next door!
They also had a beautiful selection of ceramic dishes and charming little accessories for sale.
Tokoname Ceramic Village is truly special! It's one of Japan's Six Ancient Kilns and boasts a fascinating Ceramic Path.
Here, you'll find a captivating blend of history with old chimneys and traditional ceramic factories still standing.
This is Fusha, a delightful bread workshop!
Notice the traditional chimney and kiln – a charming sight.
This is the spot for that special milk, exclusive to Tokoname City.
It's sold right here, but unfortunately, even though I arrived early, it was already sold out!
I was so curious to taste it – what a shame!
Apparently, 70% of the school lunches in the area are supplied with this milk, which speaks volumes about its quality!

It was incredibly hot that day,
so I was more than ready to step into a cool cafe!
Right from the entrance, you can feel the rich, traditional ambiance!
It's truly inviting.
Beautiful ceramic cups are on display, showcasing the local artistry.
There's also a comfy waiting area where you can relax.
Menu
You'll find a delightful array of 'Float' drinks here!
For those unfamiliar, a 'Float' is simply
a refreshing beverage
topped with a scoop of delicious ice cream.
Wabisuke Plum Honey Citrus Shaved Ice
Matcha Milk Shaved Ice
Mizore Kintoki Sweet Red Bean Shaved Ice
Brown Sugar Syrup Kinako Shaved Ice
They also offer Zenzai, a delightful traditional Japanese dessert.
Zenzai is made by simmering sweet red beans,
and it's typically enjoyed with chewy mochi or dango dumplings.
This spot is actually quite famous for its Miso Udon.
I heard it's served piping hot in beautiful handmade ceramic bowls,
and tastes amazing, but sadly, I was too full to give it a try!
They also serve drinks like Café au Lait and Matcha au Lait,
as well as 'Floats' – delightful beverages
topped with a scoop of ice cream!
They also serve hearty Curry Udon!
It comes with a perfectly cooked onsen egg and a side of rice.
Wabisuke's Menu
'Wabisuke' actually refers to a beautiful variety of camellia flower.
Interior
It seems the paper aprons, which used to be complimentary, are now a paid item... Oh, how times change!
Inside, you'll find three or four tables,
and I just love the serene, peaceful atmosphere!
Alongside the Melon Cream Soda Float,
a snack that tastes exactly like Matdongsan (a popular Korean snack) was served!
We tried the Cream Soda
and the Green Tea Float.
The Green Tea Float also
had a strong matcha flavor,
and it was wonderfully sweet and refreshing.
It also had a slight fizzy taste.
The Cream Soda was delicious too!
The matcha ice cream, with its sweet
and subtly bitter flavor, was also a hit!
It was so refreshing on a hot day, and the portion was generous too.
Both items together cost 1560 yen. Remember, it's cash only!
It seems many places in Nagoya don't accept cards.

Beyond this spot, you'll find plenty of other charming restaurants,

Of the Tokoname Walking Path,
the iconic Dokanzaka Slope!
Established in 1972, this fascinating area
is home to factory museums, kiln art galleries, and more.
You can easily explore it all on foot,
with an A-course spanning about 1.5 km and a B-course extending to around 4 km.

For anyone eager to soak in a blend of traditional charm and unique vibes,
I wholeheartedly recommend
the incredible Tokoname Pottery Village!
Wabisuke accepts cash payments only and operates from 11 AM to 5 PM. Tuesdays are closed.
There are two walking courses in Tokoname Pottery Village: Course A and Course B. Course A is about 1.5 kilometers long, and Course B is about 4 kilometers long.
A Ploto is a drink topped with ice cream. At Wabisuke, you can enjoy items like Melon Cream Soda Ploto and Green Tea Ploto. I ordered a Cream Soda Ploto and a Green Tea Ploto and paid a total of 1560 yen.
It is sold near the bread workshop Fusha. When I visited, it was already sold out even though I went early. This milk reportedly supplies 70% of Tokoname City's school lunches.
Around the Pottery Footpath, you can find old chimneys, pottery factories, a factory museum, and a kiln art museum. Notably, you can also see facilities built in 1972.
