The Laylow, Autograph Collection Hotel is a boutique hotel with a mid-century *vibe* (!) located right in the heart of Waikiki. This isn't just my casual description; the official website actually describes its style as 'mid-century modern'... haha!
Anyway, it's part of the Marriott Hotels family, which most of us are familiar with.

When it comes to location, the hotel is situated on Kuhio Avenue, just one block behind Kalakaua Avenue, which is Waikiki's main thoroughfare. It's directly across from Marukame Udon, arguably the most famous budget-friendly eatery in Honolulu. Seriously, *right* across the street!
The most bustling section of Kalakaua Avenue for shopping stretches from around the Royal Hawaiian Center to the Duke Kahanamoku Statue, and it’s where you'll find the most people.
Of course, there are shops and restaurants before and after that stretch, but relatively speaking, there isn't as much to see.
(Even so, it's a pleasant walk, and you'll probably end up strolling through it all to explore anyway!)
The hotel's location is right in the center of that prime area, making it super convenient for getting anywhere. Waikiki Beach is just an 8-minute walk away. How amazing is that location?
To top it off, the Pink Trolley bus stop that takes everyone to Ala Moana Center is right next to Marukame Udon. You get on and off at the same spot, so even if your hands are heavy with all your shopping, you won't have to pay for an expensive taxi!
2. The Laylow Waikiki: Room Condition

This is the most basic room. Pretty neat, right? Near the entrance, you'll find the bathroom and a closet built into the wall, along with a double bed and a decent-sized additional bed.
On the side where I was taking the photos, there's a spacious table and a sofa, and every room comes with a 'lanai,' which is what they call a terrace in Hawaii.
I didn't take photos from the opposite direction, only a video. You can see the room in more detail in the video below.

While they call it a 'terrace,' it's not really big enough for sitting, but it's perfect for a peek at the outside.
Hawaii's weather is truly amazing, so just having the door open makes you feel incredibly happy.

I snapped a shot from the lanai around sunset. Honestly, there isn't much of a view, but you can faintly see the ocean in the distance.
It would be great to have a full ocean-view hotel, but since this isn't a honeymoon, I reined in my desires. They're just ridiculously expensive...

Looking down from the room, you can spot the hotel's small but charming pool.
Even though it's small, it's rarely crowded since most people head to the beach anyway. But isn't it pretty? Haha!
The bathroom had a shower stall and was very clean. It's a perfectly decent bathroom that doesn't need much elaboration.

The valet parking desk located near the hotel entrance.
In Hawaii, you almost always have to pay for parking even if you're staying at the hotel. And what's truly outrageous is that it's a per-night charge – a system I'd never encountered before!
It's best not to rent a car, but then again, the scenic drives are so good that you'll probably end up renting one for at least a day.
You can drop off your car here and pay the fee when you check out.
The building you see across the street in the photo is Marukame Udon. The line to eat inside is incredibly long, but you can just get takeout. You'll still get to enjoy it warm, not soggy, and perfectly cooked! Haha!
As of a month from when this post was written, a one-night stay (including taxes) is around ~$301-~$377.
Calling it 'value for money' might feel a bit ironic, but among 4-star hotels with excellent locations, it's actually a pretty good price.

What's interesting is that there's hardly any price difference between the booking sites.
It seems you can just book on whichever site you usually use.
3. Top Value-for-Money Hotels in Hawaii
My criteria for a value-for-money hotel are:
- The location isn't too far from Waikiki Beach,
- It's a 4-star hotel or higher,
- And it has a Google rating of 4.0 or above.
Of course, if you don't set such criteria, you'll find plenty of cheaper places than what I've listed. However, I consider these the minimum standards for choosing accommodation, so I've narrowed it down to this range. I believe that "value for money" isn't just about the lowest price.
📌The Surfjack Hotel

This was the hotel I deliberated over until the very last minute.
When I booked, there was almost no price difference, but now it looks to be about ~$23 cheaper per night. The Laylow has a slightly better location, but not by much. What really stands out here is the beautiful swimming pool.
My sister later stayed here and loved it, and I even got some photos from her!

📌Outrigger Waikiki Paradise

Located on Kuhio Avenue, this hotel recently underwent renovations, which is a major plus. Hawaii is an older tourist destination, so it's not uncommon to find places that feel a bit dated.
The price point is generally lower than The Laylow, though its rating is slightly lower. Still, it looks like a great option!

📌Alohilani Waikiki Hotel

This is the only 5-star hotel among my recommendations. Honestly, finding a 5-star hotel at this price point in Hawaii is quite rare.
While its location isn't precisely in the absolute center, it's certainly not far off, and ocean views are possible depending on the room type.
Basic rooms are available starting from the ~$301 range, so considering everything, it might actually be the best value-for-money hotel. However, its rating is a bit lower compared to The Laylow.
If it weren't for the cost, Hawaii is truly a destination I'd want to visit frequently. I'm genuinely envious of everyone planning their trips there right now!
Have a wonderful trip, everyone :)
