Fukuoka's subway stations are well-equipped with numerous coin lockers, and Tenjin Station stands out. Thanks to its underground passage connecting all the way to Tenjin-Minami Station via a vast shopping arcade, you'll find a generous number of lockers here, making it super easy to locate one.

What's even better is that the locker fees at Tenjin Station are generally more affordable compared to other locations. So, if you find yourself needing to stash your bags during your explorations, Tenjin Station is definitely our top recommendation!

The red circles on the Tenjin Station map above highlight where the coin lockers are located. Essentially, you'll find them scattered throughout the entire B1 (basement first) floor.

Finding the Lockers

Once you step inside Tenjin Station, you'll start spotting coin lockers almost immediately as you walk around.

However, many of these initial lockers tend to be smaller in size and are frequently in use, so you might find them occupied.

Keep walking a bit further, and you'll come across a ticket gate and a Family Mart convenience store (this area is also near Exit 7). This spot, right next to the ticket gate, boasts the largest number of lockers!

You'll find rows of lockers, similar in size to what's pictured, stretching out on both sides of the Family Mart.

Plus, there's a convenient passage connecting directly to the B1 floor of Parco Department Store right across, making it even easier to find.

Because this particular area has such a high volume of lockers, you'll almost always find an available spot for your suitcase, even during peak tourist times!

Locker Fees

The usage fees for the coin lockers vary depending on their size:

Small: ~$3

Semi-Medium: ~$3

Medium: ~$4

Large: ~$6

Extra-Large: ~$7

Super Extra-Large: ~$8

Operating hours are from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM.

Payment can only be made using IC cards like Suica or Pasmo, or with cash. Standard credit cards are NOT accepted at these particular lockers.

While more modern coin lockers in Japan are starting to accept credit card payments, these older models still do not. So, make sure you have an IC card or cash ready!

How to Use the Lockers

I personally used a medium-sized locker (costing ~$4) for my 18-inch carry-on suitcase, and there was plenty of room left over. It seems a 24-inch checked suitcase would also fit comfortably.

For a larger 28-inch suitcase, you'd likely need to opt for a large locker, which costs ~$6.

The machines offer multi-language support (including English), so simply follow the on-screen instructions. Find a locker that fits your luggage size, place your items inside, and then close the door by pushing down the button or lever.

Once you've paid the fee, you'll receive a payment receipt. It's absolutely crucial that you DO NOT throw this away!

When you return to retrieve your luggage, you'll need to scan the QR code located on your payment receipt to unlock the locker. So, keep that receipt safe until you've collected your belongings!
