1. Your Top 3 Ways to Get from Taoyuan Airport to Downtown Taipei

① Airport MRT (Mass Rapid Transit)
Opened in 2017, the Taoyuan Airport MRT is hands down the quickest way to connect Taoyuan International Airport with Taipei City. If speed is your priority, this is your go-to!
Hop on the purple express train, and you'll zip from Taoyuan Airport Terminal 1 straight to Taipei Main Station in just about 36 minutes. It's incredibly efficient.
Worried about finding your way? Don't be! The MRT station is conveniently located within the airport. Just follow the clear "MRT" signs, and you'll be on your way in no time.

② Kuo-Kuang Bus 1819
After clearing immigration, simply follow the 'Bus to City' signs, and you'll find the airport bus ticket counters. The Kuo-Kuang (國光) Bus 1819 is the most popular choice, offering frequent departures and direct service to Taipei Main Station.
At approximately 132 TWD for a one-way adult ticket, it's typically the most budget-friendly option among the various transport methods.
While the Airport MRT generally stops running around 11:00 PM, the Kuo-Kuang Bus 1819 operates 24/7, making it your only public transport choice if you're arriving late at night.
Keep in mind that the journey takes about 1 hour, and this can extend if you hit traffic congestion on the roads.

③ Taxi
If you're traveling with a group of 3-4 people or have a lot of luggage, a taxi is undeniably the most comfortable option. While it's certainly the most expensive, the convenience of being dropped off directly at your accommodation can be a huge advantage, especially after a long flight.
However, many taxi drivers in Taiwan may not speak English well, so it's a smart idea to have your hotel address written down in traditional Chinese characters to avoid any communication hiccups. Like the bus, taxi travel times can also be affected by traffic conditions.
2. My Top Tip: Pre-Purchase Your Airport MRT + EasyCard Combo!

Here's my personal favorite method, and the one I actually used on my last trip to Taiwan: pre-purchasing both your Airport MRT ticket and an EasyCard online before you even leave home!
Even though the Airport MRT is super fast, buying tickets on arrival can mean waiting in long lines, and navigating ticket machines in a foreign language can be a bit stressful. Who needs that after a long flight?
By purchasing in advance, you can simply scan a QR code at the ezfly service counter, conveniently located right in front of the MRT platform, and pick up your tickets instantly.
And here's the real game-changer: you can get your EasyCard at the same counter! This is a massive time-saver. You'll need an EasyCard for virtually all your public transport (MRT, buses) and even for payments at convenience stores throughout your Taiwan adventure. Buying it separately means another queue and more time spent.
On my trip, we cleared immigration around 11:20 AM and had a lunch reservation at Din Tai Fung in Taipei Main Station for 12:30 PM. Thanks to picking up our MRT ticket and EasyCard simultaneously, we saved so much time and made it to our reservation without any rush!

Typically, a one-way Airport MRT ticket costs NT$ 160, and an EasyCard itself is NT$ 100 (excluding top-up value), totaling at least NT$ 260. However, I found that purchasing the Airport MRT + EasyCard combo together actually works out to be a bit cheaper!
Plus, when you first get an EasyCard, you usually need to top it up separately. But with the combo set, you often have the option to receive a card pre-loaded with NT$ 200, saving you the hassle of finding a top-up machine right after arrival.

So, if budget is your absolute top priority, the bus is your best bet. If ultimate convenience trumps cost, then a taxi will get you there hassle-free.
But if you're like me and want to strike a perfect balance between saving time and money, the Airport MRT + EasyCard combo is definitely the smartest and most efficient choice. Happy travels, and I'll catch you in the next adventure guide!
The Taoyuan Airport MRT's purple express train takes approximately 36 minutes from Taoyuan Airport Terminal 1 to Taipei Main Station. This is the fastest way to get between the airport and downtown Taipei.
The Airport MRT service typically stops operating around 11 PM. If you arrive late at night, the only public transport option is Kuo-Kuang Bus No. 1819, which runs 24 hours. This bus goes to Taipei Main Station, and the adult one-way fare is 132 TWD.
You can exchange your pre-purchased Airport MRT + EasyCard set immediately by scanning the QR code at the information counter (ezfly) located right in front of the MRT platform. This saves you time by avoiding ticket purchase lines on-site and allows you to receive your EasyCard all at once.
Individually purchasing a one-way Airport MRT ticket (NT$ 160) and an EasyCard (NT$ 100) would cost a minimum of NT$ 260, but buying them as a set is generally cheaper. Additionally, you can opt for an EasyCard pre-loaded with NT$ 200, which reduces the hassle of separate top-ups.
