If you've traveled to Japan, you're probably familiar with ChargeSPOT!
Good news: ChargeSPOT is also available in Taiwan.
I first used the Taiwan ChargeSPOT service when I forgot my portable charger and was debating whether to buy a new one. Let me share my experience!

1. What is ChargeSPOT?

ChargeSPOT: Portable Charger Sharing & Rental Service
These convenient stands are installed in various locations like convenience stores, cafes, restaurants, and subway stations. The best part? You can rent a charger from one stand and return it to any other ChargeSPOT stand!
ChargeSPOT operates across Asia, including Japan, Hong Kong, and Thailand, making it a lifesaver if your phone battery dies while traveling in these countries.
2. Taiwan ChargeSPOT Prices

The cost is based on the rental duration. The shorter you use it, the more you save!
✔️ My Actual Usage (March 29-31, 2026)
Date Used | Duration | Taiwanese Dollar (NT) | Approx. USD |
Mar 29 | 1 hr 32 min | NT 38 | ~$1 |
2 hr 3 min | NT 57 | ~$2 | |
Mar 30 | 1 hr 58 min | NT 38 | ~$1 |
3 hr 16 min | NT 76 | ~$3 | |
Mar 31 | 2 hr 1 min | NT 57 | ~$2 |
Most rentals cost around ~$1-$3, so it's quite affordable.
3. How to Use ChargeSPOT

The chargers come with three types of built-in cables, so you can charge any phone, whether it's a Galaxy, iPhone, or other device.

The app's map instantly shows you nearby stand locations, so finding one is a breeze. It updates in real-time as you move, just like Google Maps, showing nearby available stands.
4. How to Find a Location

The app displays all nearby stands based on your current location. They're installed in a wide variety of places: convenience stores, subway stations, restaurants, bars, and more. In my experience, FamilyMart convenience stores usually have many ChargeSPOT stands.
Of course, there are plenty in Taipei, and even in Tainan, they were available along most major routes.
5. My Personal Review

My first time using ChargeSPOT was during my recent trip to Taiwan!
Before my flight, at the airport, I realized I hadn't packed my portable charger. I considered buying one at duty-free, but it was early morning, so shops were limited and prices were quite high. I decided to wait until I got to Taiwan, but even Xiaomi power banks were more expensive than I expected.
Since I don't usually carry a portable charger, I turned to ChargeSPOT's rental service!

However, I ran into an issue! When I first downloaded the app in Taiwan and tried to register my card, it kept failing. Payments kept getting an error. I even hastily installed Line Pay, but it was blocked due to security reasons. 😭
I even asked an AI for help, and it suggested Apple Pay might work. Tried it, and boom – success! 👍🏻
That's right... Apple is truly global! No Samsung Pay envy here! ~~~~
The power banks are relatively light and have enough capacity to fully charge a smartphone once. If you're out and about all day, you'll likely need to rent twice (if two people are using it).

The fee is based on the rental duration, not the charging amount! So, it's best to plug in and charge immediately after renting, then return it as soon as your device is charged. Carrying it around just adds to the cost.
My travel companion said it was convenient not having to charge a power bank back at the hotel. Personally, it felt a bit like spending extra money, but the cost was low enough that it wasn't a big deal.
Therefore, I highly recommend ChargeSPOT as a backup power solution!
6. Tips & Important Notes

✔️ Register your card in the app *before* you leave home.
✔️ iPhone users can often use Apple Pay if registered.
✔️ A return stand must have an empty slot to accept your power bank.
✔️ Long-term non-return or exceeding a certain time limit will result in an automatic purchase of the power bank.
✔️ Start charging immediately after renting.
