Opt for a Cafe Experience at Taipei 101 Instead of the Observatory!
SIMPLE KAFFA
As passionate coffee enthusiasts, my partner and I always make sure to seek out the best cafes when we travel. Simple Kaffa was high on our list for our Taipei trip.
We hadn't initially planned for the Taipei 101 branch, but it fit perfectly into our itinerary, so we made a last-minute decision to go.
I didn't even realize a reservation might be necessary and just showed up for coffee. At the reception desk, they informed us reservations were required, and for a moment, I thought we'd be out of luck.
I was quite surprised that a cafe would require reservations, but luckily, there was an open table, and we were kindly seated.
For reference, the Taipei 101 Observatory is on the 89th floor, and Simple Kaffa is located just one floor below, on the 88th floor.

📍 Simple Kaffa
No. 45, Section 5, Xinyi Rd, Xinyi District, Taipei City, Taiwan 110
Operating Hours | 10:00 AM - 8:00 PM |
Closed | None |
Reservation Required | Recommended |
While the cafe is on the 88th floor, you can't just head straight up. From the main entrance of Taipei 101 Tower, you need to find the reception desk on the left side of the 1st floor.
Whether you have a reservation or not, you must check in here. We were fortunate to get in without one, but I strongly recommend making a reservation to avoid disappointment.
After checking in, you'll be directed to the elevator. It doesn't go directly to the 88th floor; you'll need to transfer elevators on the 60th floor.

SIMPLE KAFFA Seating & Menu

The cafe was quite busy, and it was a bit dark, so I didn't get many photos of the interior. However, we were assigned a very spacious table, similar to the one in the image below – almost too large for just two people!

Even from our table, we could easily walk over to the window for photos, so it didn't really impact our view experience. Honestly, I was more interested in the coffee than the observatory itself, so I was perfectly content with our seating.

There's a minimum charge for seating, which was explained at reception and is also detailed on their reservation website:
Window seats: ~$62/table
Bay sofa: ~$93/table
Standard seating: ~$9/person
Our table seemed to be a bay sofa (I'm only just checking the booking site now!), but I recall that as a walk-in, we weren't charged the full ~$93 minimum. You can meet the minimum charge by purchasing drinks, coffee beans, or drip bags.
Considering window seats are over ~$60 per table, it's not exactly cheap.
However, Taipei 101 Observatory tickets are around ~$19 per person. If you're a group of three or more, it might even be a better value than the observatory itself (since you get coffee!).
For a couple planning to enjoy specialty coffee and buy some beans, visiting Simple Kaffa is definitely a smart choice.

Since we ended up at Taipei 101 Tower after all, we took the opportunity to admire and photograph the night view from the window. It was far more impressive than I expected!

We both ordered iced coffee, which arrived beautifully presented on an elegant tray with separate glasses of ice.

Each coffee came with a tasting note card, providing information specific to the beans we ordered. If you purchase beans, 200g is ~$22.
And yes, the coffee was truly delicious!
Between our coffees and buying some beans, we ended up spending quite a bit, haha!
While it's on the pricier side for Taiwan and you can find excellent specialty coffee almost anywhere these days, considering it combines the experience of a great coffee shop with stunning observatory-level views, it's definitely worth recommending.
Bonus: The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful!

Taipei 101 Tower Observatory
As mentioned, this cafe is located just one floor below the main observatory. Standard seating has a minimum charge of ~$9, which isn't a huge burden. However, if you're not a fan of specialty coffee, you might still consider if it's worth it for you.
If you're planning to visit the Taipei 101 Observatory itself, it's always cheaper to book your tickets in advance online rather than buying them on-site. Make sure to reserve ahead of time!
