Taipei is home to numerous Eslite Bookstores, a chain often compared to large, popular bookstores you'd find in the US or Europe.
For my trip, I headed to the Eslite branch closest to my itinerary, which happened to be Eslite Spectrum Songyan.
What really caught my attention was that Eslite Bookstore is open 24 hours! It's truly impressive and makes for a fantastic late-night or early-morning activity.
The sheer size of the bookstore also reminded me of a vast, multi-floor literary haven.
My main reason for visiting was singular: to hunt for English books.
While you can easily find English books in many countries, I'd heard that Taiwan often offers them at a slightly more affordable price point.
So, off I went to Eslite, hoping to stumble upon some fun new reads!
Beyond books, the store boasts an impressive array of stationery and unique items. Excluding the English book section, most items were labeled in Chinese. As someone who doesn't read Chinese, I mostly enjoyed admiring the beautiful illustrations and designs!
The selection of adorable stationery was extensive. Taiwan, much like Japan, has a vibrant culture for character goods and cute accessories. My eyes were definitely drawn to all the unique and charming items!
There's a dedicated kids' section, too! Filled with comic books, picture books, and even English children's books, it's a popular spot for families traveling with little ones.
They even had board games! While the instructions might be in Chinese, if you're comfortable looking up rules on YouTube, these can be a great value. They're often a bit more affordable than what you'd find back home, making them a fun souvenir.
2. English Books & Unique Finds
The English book section was a delight! In many non-English speaking countries, finding a diverse selection of English books can be a challenge, often requiring a special trip to a dedicated international bookstore. Eslite, however, has a well-stocked section, and my little one and I had a great time browsing together.
The variety of English books was impressive – from chapter books to picture books and storybooks. It really showed me the strong emphasis on English education in Taiwan.
They even had popular titles like Numberblocks! While my child wasn't familiar with Numberblocks at the time of our trip, they absolutely love it now in 2026, and looking back, I wish I had picked up a copy!
With so many renowned titles and unique books that differ from what we typically see, my child even picked out a book they wanted! Even if some pages are in Chinese, the vibrant illustrations make them incredibly fun to read together.

Taiwan is known for its frequent rain, making umbrellas and parasols a popular souvenir!
The quality of these "umbrella-parasols" is excellent, and the prices are quite reasonable, making them perfect gifts. I highly recommend adding one to your shopping list!
Don't forget classic Taiwanese souvenirs like nougat crackers, charming small trinkets, popular local snacks (like the "Home Run Ball" type), authentic milk tea, savory beef noodle cup noodles, and the renowned Kavalan whisky.

4. Family-Friendly Taipei Itinerary
When planning your tours in Taiwan, you'll often use buses or taxis. If you're traveling with kids, I highly recommend opting for a private taxi over a group bus tour.
A taxi allows you to adjust the schedule to your child's needs and provides a private, comfortable space for easy childcare.
And of course, no Taipei trip is complete without a visit to Din Tai Fung! In a city known for its strong spices, Din Tai Fung is famous for its milder flavors that even kids enjoy, making it consistently popular. Due to long waitlists, booking reservation tickets in advance is an absolute must.
