During my Taipei trip, one of the most delightful places for a relaxed stroll was Huashan 1914 Creative Park! This space beautifully remodels old buildings, offering a fascinating blend of history and modern design. It's packed with charming souvenir shops, art exhibition areas, and cafes, making it a perfect spot to spend half a day.

1. Taipei Itinerary: Huashan 1914 Creative Park

Huashan 1914 Creative Park is a dynamic cultural complex, ingeniously repurposed from a sake winery built in 1914 during the Japanese colonial era. After the winery relocated in 1987, the abandoned space was revitalized into a hub for arts and culture, now standing as one of Taipei's most celebrated hotspots!

The park perfectly preserves the charm of its old red-brick buildings, high ceilings, and arched windows, harmoniously blending them with contemporary art exhibitions, design shops, and cafes. Simply walking through offers a myriad of sights, and each building boasts a unique ambiance, making it a fantastic spot for photography.

When I visited on a weekend, Huashan 1914 was bustling with both locals and tourists, as expected. The beautiful weather encouraged many to spread out picnic blankets and enjoy the city park area outside. It was a wonderful experience to witness the weekend routines of locals, not just other tourists, adding an authentic touch to the travel experience!

2. Huashan 1914's Quieter Cafe Lane

Huashan 1914 is incredibly popular, especially on weekends, which means it can get quite crowded. However, if you venture past the main plaza and exhibition halls towards the back, the atmosphere subtly shifts. Here, you'll find a charming lane lined with more red-brick buildings, housing quaint shops and cafes. It's noticeably quieter, offering a more tranquil setting for leisurely exploration.

My original plan for the day was to visit ABOUT H, a cat cafe. I was eager to spend some time with the feline residents, but unfortunately, arriving without a reservation meant all tables were taken. It was a bit disappointing given its popularity, but I decided to seek out another cafe nearby. That's when I stumbled upon CHLIV!

Being located right inside Huashan 1914 made it super convenient to access, and it looked like the perfect spot for a quick break, so I headed in.

3. Taipei Cafe CHLIV - Huashan Store

CHLIV is a specialty coffee brand founded by Taiwan's renowned barista, Chris Lin. Chris Lin is famous for his exceptional latte art and premium coffee, having won the World Latte Art Championship in Tokyo in 2016. CHLIV is particularly well-known for its signature Charcoal Latte.

The Huashan 1914 location is housed within one of the park's vintage red-brick buildings. The contrast between the building's historic exterior and the cafe's modern, all-black interior creates a truly distinctive ambiance! The minimalist design, dominated by black tones, gives it the feel of a chic design studio rather than a typical coffee shop.

The seating arrangements are uniquely designed, and from the window seats, you can enjoy views of Huashan 1914's iconic red-brick architecture.

The menu offers a wide range, from classic espresso and Americano to lattes, matcha lattes, and their signature Charcoal Latte. If you're a coffee enthusiast, trying one of CHLIV's famous latte art creations or their signature drinks would be a fantastic choice!

4. Our Order & Review

That day, we ordered a Matcha Latte and an Iced Americano! While I was curious about the signature Charcoal Latte, I simply couldn't pass up my favorite Matcha Latte. The Matcha Latte was wonderfully smooth and nutty, and the Iced Americano was clean and refreshing – both were thoroughly satisfying.

After exploring Huashan 1914 for a while, it was the perfect time to sit down and relax. What I appreciated most was the serene atmosphere here, a welcome contrast to the bustling main plaza.

After finishing our coffee, we continued exploring Huashan 1914! Beyond the exhibitions and cafes, the park offers delightful opportunities to browse charming souvenirs, including design goods, stationery, and character merchandise. If you enjoy perusing unique items, you might find yourself spending more time here than you initially planned!

Strolling among the historic red-brick buildings, admiring the sights, and browsing for unique souvenirs – Huashan 1914 truly offers a complete experience of sightseeing, shopping, and cafe hopping, making it a highly recommended spot for any Taipei itinerary. Especially on weekends, you can witness locals enjoying picnics, and by venturing slightly off the main paths, you'll discover peaceful spots like CHLIV to savor a coffee. I highly recommend taking your time to explore it all.
