Preparing for Your Taipei Adventure

Hey everyone, it's travel blogger Lisa here!
I'm currently busy planning my trip to Taipei, Taiwan,
and getting everything ready.
As I pack and prepare, I realized there are quite a few things
you need to take care of before you head out!
Based on my upcoming 4-day, 3-night Taipei itinerary,
I've put together everything from the weather and outfit ideas to tour bookings and discounted eSIMs,
all in one handy guide! :)
Ready to plan your Taiwan adventure?
Let's dive right in! 🇹🇼
In this post, we'll cover:
✔️ Taipei Weather & Outfits |
✔️ Essential Gear: Adapters & Travel Cards |
✔️ Taiwan eSIM Recommendation (USIMSA) |
✔️ Booking Your Yehliu, Shifen, & Jiufen Tour |
✔️ Taipei 101 Ticket 1+1 Special Deal |
...and so much more! - 💚
1. Taipei Weather & Outfits

Since I'm heading out in May,
I'll focus on what to expect for May and June! :)
May and June are right on the cusp of summer.
This means Taipei is going to get seriously hot!
✅ Daytime Temps: Around 27°C - 30°C (80°F - 86°F)
✅ Humidity: 70% - 90%

Taipei weather in May & June
Because of the high humidity in Taiwan, it feels a lot hotter than the thermometer says.
✅ Short sleeves + a light cardigan (essential for freezing indoor AC)
✅ Comfortable sneakers or sandals
✅ Travel umbrella or raincoat
(Sudden, heavy tropical showers are common)
✅ Sunscreen, hat, and sunglasses are must-haves!
2. Taiwan Travel Essentials: The Basics

Prep a Travel Card (like Travel Wallet) |
When traveling abroad, most of us now pack
a card with zero foreign exchange fees.
Travel Wallet / Travellog / SOL Travel / Toss Card
Since cash is still king in Taiwan over credit cards,
it's incredibly convenient to withdraw cash directly from ATMs.
The fee-free ATMs include:
1️⃣ Bank of Taiwan
2️⃣ Mega Bank
3️⃣ Cathay United Bank, etc.
They all have ATMs right at Taoyuan Airport,
so with just one travel card, currency exchange is a breeze.
*Pro-tip: Convenience store ATMs usually charge high fees, so they're not recommended!
I'll share my firsthand experience and a detailed guide on this
in a later post! :)
Universal Travel Adapter |
One thing I learned while planning my Taipei trip:
Taiwan uses 110V power outlets, just like Japan and the US.
They use flat two-pin plugs.

This means bringing an adapter is a must.
Also, high-wattage beauty tools like Dysons or curling irons
won't work unless they are dual-voltage (free-volt),
so definitely double-check before you pack them!
This is the multi-tap adapter I use
whenever I travel abroad.
It stays securely in place and lets me charge multiple devices at once.
Packing just this one is enough for the whole family to use comfortably!

3. Taiwan eSIM Recommendation: Which Unlimited Plan Is Best?

I searched all over for the best Taiwan eSIM recommendations,
and decided to go with USIMSA, which had amazing reviews.

Though I've used USIMSA's eSIM on several trips,
since this is my first time in Taiwan, I did wonder
if it would work just as well here.

If you choose the completely unlimited data plan,
the price is super affordable at around ~$2 per day,
and since it's an eSIM, the setup is incredibly easy.
That's why I decided to go with USIMSA eSIM again
for my upcoming trip to Taiwan.
I'll make sure to share my honest review once I actually use it there! :)
You can grab your USIMSA eSIM
at a discounted price from the link below.
4. Booking a Taiwan Tour - My Choice: Yeh-Shi-He-Ji

If you've looked into Taiwan tours, you've probably heard of names like
Yeh-Shi-Jin-Ji, Yeh-Shi-Pu-Ji, or Yeh-Shi-Pu-Jin-Ji.
If you find these names confusing, don't worry!
They are just acronyms made from the first letters of each destination.
1️⃣ Yeh: Yehliu Geopark
2️⃣ Shi: Shifen
3️⃣ Pu: Shifen Waterfall
4️⃣ Jin: Jinguashi
5️⃣ Ji: Jiufen
6️⃣ He: Houtong Cat Village

But! The itinerary I chose is none other than
Yeh-Shi-He-Ji!
This is a tour that includes the famous cat village called Houtong.

Since it includes the highlights of any Taiwan tour: the striking Yehliu Geopark,
releasing sky lanterns in Shifen,
and the beautiful night views of the 'Spirited Away'-esque Jiufen,
I booked it without hesitation.
The tour is already incredibly cheap, normally around ~$6,
but Klook was running a special deal with a ~$3 discount!
You can book it right now for just around ~$6.
5. Taipei 101 Observatory Ticket Deals

When you think of traveling to Taipei,
the next must-visit spot right after the day tours
is the iconic Taipei 101 Observatory!
Because the tickets aren't exactly cheap,
I found myself hesitating and comparing prices over and over again.
Trip.com | ~$17 | |
Klook | ~$15 🔻 | |
MyRealTrip | ~$16 |
Luckily, Klook was running a Taiwan travel special sale,
offering the tickets at the lowest price
with some pretty deep discounts.
As a tip, Taipei 101 Observatory tickets
usually offer free cancellation up to 24 hours in advance,
so you can secure your tickets first and cancel later if the weather doesn't look promising.

Before you book, make sure to apply the discount code
to save up to ~$4,
so definitely take advantage of this! :)
