In early February 2026, I took a quick weekend trip to Taipei. Flying out on a Friday evening and returning on Sunday afternoon, a late-night arrival meant checking in past midnight. It was essentially a whirlwind 1-night, 2-day adventure. But with limited time, my mission was clear: hit the ground running and eat everything in sight from the moment I woke up!
For this fast-paced trip, I stayed near Ximending at the Green World Hotel Zhonghua.
Even with a post-midnight check-in, the front desk service was incredibly smooth and welcoming, which was a lifesaver after a tiring flight. Best of all, Ximending was just a short walk away. Being able to roll out of bed and walk to legendary spots like Ay-Chung Flour-Rice Noodle in minutes was a major time-saver.

Even on a tight schedule, I wanted to experience at least two must-see cultural landmarks.
On Saturday morning, after fueling up with a hearty hotel breakfast, I headed straight to the National Palace Museum. Arriving early was the best decision—I got to browse the incredible collection of imperial Chinese ceramics, jade, and calligraphy before the massive tour groups arrived.
Later that afternoon, right after a satisfying lunch, I made my way to Taipei 101. Taking the high-speed elevator up to the observatory gave me a stunning 360-degree daytime view of the sprawling city, making me realize just how much ground I was covering in a single weekend.

I knew the wait times could be legendary, but the table turnover at the original branch was surprisingly efficient. I ordered their signature Xiao Long Bao (soup dumplings) and Braised Beef Noodle Soup. One bite of those delicate, paper-thin dumpling skins bursting with rich, savory broth, and I instantly understood the global hype. The beef noodle soup was equally spectacular, with a deeply flavorful yet clean broth.
This was my main Saturday lunch, perfectly sandwiched between my morning museum run and my afternoon trip up Taipei 101.

As the sun went down, it was time to dive into Taipei's iconic night market culture.
First up was Raohe Street Night Market near Songshan Station, where I hunted down the famous Taiwanese oyster omelet. Made with fresh oysters, eggs, and leafy greens bound by a chewy starch batter, it had a wonderfully unique texture—savory, sweet, and slightly gelatinous. Eating it hot right in front of the bustling stall is the ultimate street food experience.
Next, I headed to Shilin Night Market, where a massive queue immediately caught my eye. It was for Hot-Star Large Fried Chicken. This legendary cutlet is literally the size of your face! Crispy, perfectly spiced on the outside, and incredibly juicy on the inside, it was worth every single minute of the wait.

On Saturday afternoon, I took a stroll through Yongkang Street and stopped at Smoothie House for Mango Shaved Ice. The snow-like, fluffy ice topped with a mountain of sweet, ripe mangoes was the ultimate refresher. Around the same time, I grabbed a classic bubble tea from CoCo—honestly, I was eating so constantly that the timeline of what came first is a bit of a blur!
On my final morning, I headed to Ay-Chung Flour-Rice Noodle in Ximending. This famous dish features silky thin noodles in a thick, smoky broth loaded with tender pork intestines. It's a unique, comfort-food flavor profile that you won't easily find back home. Since our hotel was so close, we grabbed a hot bowl right after packing up without any stress.
To wrap up the trip, I grabbed one last CoCo bubble tea. That first sip on arrival and the final cup before heading to the airport felt like the perfect bookends to an unforgettable weekend.

I grouped my museum visit and Taipei 101 as the main sightseeing anchors, slotted Din Tai Fung in for lunch, reserved the evenings for night markets, and filled the gaps with sweet treats. This kept travel times minimal and food satisfaction at an all-time high.
Also, night markets get incredibly crowded. If you see a legendary spot like Hot-Star Large Fried Chicken, have one person jump in line immediately while you scout out other snacks!
If you have a late-night flight on day one, keep your arrival night simple. Grouping my must-dos by category allowed me to experience the absolute best of Taipei without feeling overwhelmed. Happy eating!
