Most major global cities boast an iconic, towering landmark

that defines their skyline.

In Taipei, Taiwan, that landmark is the legendary

skyscraper, Taipei 101.

Not only is its unique architectural design incredibly striking,

but the panoramic views of the city from above are absolutely stunning,

making it a must-visit on any Taipei itinerary.

Today, I’ll share how to get discounted Taipei 101 tickets

along with my honest review of visiting!

You can purchase Taipei 101 tickets in two ways: ▶️ buying on-site

or pre-booking through online travel platforms.

The photo above shows the on-site ticket counter

around 6:00 PM, just as the sunset and night view rush begins.

Even during peak hours, the counter itself wasn't too crowded,

so you won't have to wait in a massive line just to buy a ticket.

However, if you purchase tickets on-site,

you'll have to pay the full standard price without any discounts.

❗️ And there is actually a pretty big price difference compared to booking online.

For standard 89th-floor observatory tickets, ▶️ booking through online platforms

saves you around ~$3,

and if you decide to go with the Fast Track ticket,

▶️ booking on Klook is nearly ~$26 cheaper.

Since the price difference compared to buying at the counter is quite significant,

if you're planning a visit, I highly recommend

booking in advance online.

Now, let me walk you through how to actually get up to

the Taipei 101 Observatory.

First, enter the building through the entrance

clearly marked "Taipei 101."

The entrance and main ticketing counter for the observatory

are located on the 5th floor, not the 1st floor.

So, make your way to the escalators or elevators

and head straight up to the 5th floor.

If you visit during peak night-view hours, the line to head up to the observatory can get incredibly long.

However, since entry is based on the specific time slot printed on your Taipei 101 ticket,

I highly recommend lining up right around your designated time.

I lined up just a bit early and waited for about 20 to 30 minutes

before hopping onto the observatory elevator.

It was mind-blowingly fast—taking just 37 seconds

to rocket from the 5th floor to the 89th!

You can actually watch the speed and elapsed time on a screen as you go,

making the ride super fun and engaging rather than boring.

Since it was peak night-view hour, the 89th floor

was already bustling with crowds.

While there were plenty of locals, it's a major tourist hotspot,

so the crowd leaned heavily toward international travelers.

Usually, observatories don't offer much else to do

besides looking at the view or the city lights,

but Taipei 101 had a completely different vibe.

They’ve set up fantastic photo zones with neon signs,

artistic installations, and creative backdrops of Taipei 101,

making it the perfect place to snap some souvenir photos.

Maybe because there were so many options,

the wait times at each spot were surprisingly short,

allowing us to take photos at a relaxed pace.

And uniquely enough, everything from souvenir shops

to cozy cafes is located right on the same floor.

There were so many adorable items modeled after Taipei 101 itself,

making browsing through them incredibly fun.

If you have some extra time to spare,

pulling up a chair at one of the cafes to just relax and soak in the atmosphere would be a wonderful idea.

And finally, the absolute highlight: the night view!

Taipei 101 features windows stretching a full 360 degrees,

allowing you to enjoy a breathtaking, panoramic view of the city.

One minor drawback is that since Taiwan tends to be quite humid

and cloudy, the weather can make a massive difference.

The quality of the night view heavily depends on your luck with the weather.

On the day I visited, it was rainy and cloudy,

so the view was a bit obstructed from certain angles.

I highly recommend checking the weather forecast before you go!

Just as important as heading up to the Taipei 101 Observatory

is knowing the smart way to head back down.

If you visit during the peak evening hours when crowds gather,

the line for the elevator going down from the 89th floor will be incredibly long.

In this case, I recommend heading down to the 88th floor instead.

Although there will still be a wait on the 88th floor,

it's usually much shorter than on the 89th,

allowing you to save a ton of time.

Today, I've shared my experience at the must-visit Taipei attraction,

the iconic Taipei 101 Observatory.

As Taiwan's most representative landmark,

both its exterior and interior offer completely unique charms,

so I highly recommend making a visit at least once during your trip.

While you can purchase tickets on-site,

❗️ booking through an online agency is usually over 20% cheaper,

so it’s definitely a smart move to book in advance!

Also, while the night views are absolutely stunning,

getting up and down the observatory during these peak hours can take longer than you might think.

To avoid any rush, make sure to budget at least an extra hour

in your itinerary to keep things stress-free!
