For me, the night view of Taipei 101
was something I wanted to see not from atop the Taipei 101 Observatory,
but from outside, with the observatory as the backdrop.
So, I went up to the observatory during the day!
I'll share my honest review of how it was.

After getting off at Taipei 101 Station,
and exiting into the connected building from the subway,
you'll immediately see Din Tai Fung.
This is a must-try, so Din Tai Fung was our lunch spot!🥟
Whether you go to Din Tai Fung for lunch or in the afternoon,
there's always a wait,
so it's perfect to put your name down for Din Tai Fung, then visit the observatory and come back.
Our wait was 75 minutes, by the way! Haha.

If you head in next to Din Tai Fung,
you'll see the signature Damper Baby character,
whose eyes, nose, and mouth are shaped like '101', holding a sign.
Just follow that 'OBSERVATORY' sign,

and you'll arrive at the ticket office.
Buying tickets directly here means you'll pay about 25% more!!
Purchasing online and showing your QR code is much cheaper.
Even if you buy it right there, the voucher arrives instantly,
so getting a discount is essential.
When you go in to buy tickets,
you'll find various ticket types.
- 89th-floor Observatory Ticket: Standard ticket
- 101st-floor Observatory Add-on: Go up to an even higher observatory
- Fast Pass Add-on: Skip the line and take the elevator

The view from the 101st floor isn't particularly different,
Compared to the 89th floor, it felt like the interior here was a bit more beautifully decorated.
There are just so many photo spots, so
if you're looking to simply soak in the observatory atmosphere,
the 89th floor felt quite sufficient.

"Is a Fast Track Ticket Worth It?"
I actually visited during a major holiday, and it was fantastic!
On weekends or public holidays,
especially during peak times (around an hour before sunset),
the elevator queues can get quite long,
so a fast track ticket probably pays for itself then.
Otherwise, they say the wait is usually only around 10 to 20 minutes.

While you're waiting for the elevator,
they actually take a photo of you, haha!
You pose in front of a green screen
so they can superimpose a background later.

Later, when you get up to the 89th-floor observatory,
they sell photos with a beautifully composited Taipei 101 backdrop.
One set costs 500 TWD, which is about ~$15.
I just had a look, but didn't end up buying them.
Riding up the elevator,
it's incredible how you reach the 89th floor in mere seconds!
My ears definitely popped from the ascent.

From the 89th floor, 382m (1,253 ft) above ground,
you're treated to a spectacular 360-degree panorama of Taipei city!

It's so high up that you can't really make out individual details,
but what's truly wonderful is how it perfectly showcases the combined allure
of Taiwan's natural beauty and its vibrant cityscape.
Perhaps it's the exhilarating feeling of being so high up, but
the cool and comfortable interior also made it
a perfect spot to relax and recharge during our sightseeing adventure.

There's often a zone decorated with various character concepts, which
kids absolutely adore!
When I visited this particular area, I'd say about 70% of the visitors were kids!

After about an hour of relaxation,
we realized our Din Tai Fung waiting number was almost called,
so we quickly checked out the impressive wind damper and headed back down.
This is an earthquake and typhoon control device,
and it's truly massive inside the building!
It felt a bit like a fun science lesson, and with those
cute characters, I couldn't resist taking tons of photos.

And check out the Taipei 101 souvenir shop!
It's on the 89th floor!
My travel buddy was eyeing a cute pouch, but
for some reason, I was more tempted by the Kavalan whiskey miniatures... hehe.
(Just an honest review of my daytime visit to Taipei 101 as an 'adult').
The regular ticket, when discounted, was around ~$15, and
since we were already waiting for Din Tai Fung,
the experience of going up to Taiwan's landmark observatory was absolutely wonderful.
I truly felt it was a thoroughly satisfying expense!
